Changes for Round 6 vs Sydney

Can someone explain why we are so in favour of JKH staying in the team but loath to bring in Salem.

The reality is JKH has played some nice little cameos but not performed well. Salem has now played 4 or so games at Casey and done well.

If JKH is in the team then Salem should be as well. If not, JKH should also be at Casey learning the ropes.

Hey chap, Salem has played 2 games at Casey, 1 as a forward, he did bits and pieces in the practice games, but let's see him put five or six together racking up not only the possessions but his confidence, fitness and hardness

How about we just pick our best 22. Salem must give us more than Jetta, Terlich, McKenzie, Evans, M Jones etc.

Its pretty funny really. Half the site is demanding our most skilled player be dropped because he has no heart. The other half are calling for the heads of the guys that are all heart but make errors. We struggled to contain GC's midfield because like West Coast they have the one thing we don't have which is speed of ball movement. This makes me less concerned against Sydney. I doubt Garlo has enough match fitness yet to play.

In Kent, Salem, Strauss

Out Evans, McKenzie, Terlich

NB: Watts to be put on notice.

[/quote

I would keep Evans and play him the whole game at half forward.. And make Terlich the sub.. Give him a minor wake up call..

Fair enough, but why the different rules for JKH?

Oh, and Chap, he's played 3.

Round 1:

Christian Salem: He looked competitive and composed. The next layer to Christian’s game will come from him backing his ability to take the opposition on with his leg speed and ball use. He is a great kick and as we see him use it more to attack through the corridor, he will be a very dangerous player.

Round 2

Christian Salem: Christian played wing and half-forward. He had 20 disposals and had a good direct battle with his opponent on the wing. He managed to slip his opponent on a couple of occasions, but he was moved in the forward in the second half and became a really good contributor. He kicked two goals and led-up really well, using his smarts. He has to try not to rush when in possession of the ball. We want him to move it quick and not be rushed. A couple of times, he tried to move it quickly, when it wasn’t on. But he had a really good second half for us as a forward.

And Sunday makes 3.

If Tippet plays then we must bring in Jamar. Jake will need a chop out and Pedo will be required down back.

Would love to see Garlo back to play the third up role.

Would love to get my first look at Salem.

If Kent is fit he comes strait back.

Riley a sneaky chance?

This is what I find so laughable about some posters on this board, Salem 0 AFL games but he is the best 22, based on what junior form?, hence Morton, Gysberts and Cook were locks for the best 22

Round 1:

Round 2

And Sunday makes 3.

What I meant was he had 'played' 2 games, in game 1 he was on the field finding his feet

As for changes and best 22, lets look at what Roos values most, consistency, if we take that as a starter, we may have 5 players as locks and the other 17 could be who the match committee deem may be ready for a good game

Nathan Jones

Frawley

Dunn

Cross

Viney

If we swing the axe then Terlich, Bail, Evans and McKenzie should get the chop (would also love to see them never picked again). Bring in Garland, Kent, Toumpas and one of Blease or Salem as the sub to cover them. I'd also like to see Spencer dropped if Gawn was fit and firing. Does anyone know how he went in the VFL on the weekend?

Realistically though, I don't think they'll drop too many players so I think Terlich and Evans are gone with Garland and possibly Kent to come in.

LOL. Gotya, thanks.

No sorry, you didn't, that's how he described it himself when I spoke to him, I meant 2 games where he has shown something, he was looking at putting in a good one as he felt more comfortable at VFL level after a couple of games

No, VFL form

Ah so he will be different, he will be able to be one of the very few who show godd form in the VFL and then are able to translate it into AFL form, according to posters on this site that is

This season has panned out exactly how I expected it to with all the retirements, injuries etc, this weekend I expect us to put up a good fight but go down by 40 odd points, anything better will be a bonus and a nice surprise, anything worse will mean we didn't have 22 playing as 22 again...exactly what Roos is looking for

I'd like to see Pigdog and Salem come in, as well as Kent if fit.

Jetta, Bail and the ever lethargic Watts to go back to Casey and work bloody hard.

Jordie to get another game to (hopefully) gain some touch, Evans to get a full game before he is sent back. I don't think he's been to bad as sub.

Cheers for that, take one garland out and put Clisby in. Clisby has been in the best at Casey consistently, Strauss has been in the best the last two weeks and Salem has been playing mainly forward and doing well. I haven't heard much about Toumpas this week?

Agree TVT. Salem deserves a go. He's ready IMO. Clisby been good and Strauss also. Strauss looks best I've seen him for 2 years. Toumpas played well until he was KO'd in a high contest. He got smashed and came off early second quarter. Came back in third for 5 minutes and that was his day done. He looked very sick in the huddle at three quarter time.

Riley looks good. Big, strong body and not scared to use it. I think 3 or so more weeks and he comes straight in. Not sure on Kent. Don't think he will be ready. Salem looking the goods!

Jetta, Terlich, Evans, McKenzie and Watts were all substandard on Sunday and are known quantities without the credits in the bank. We need to make changes. If ever there was a time to bring in a young player coming off a BOG VFL game this is it.

Salem may be better in a few weeks’ time, but we are crying out for a bit of pace and skill at the moment. He will probably struggle, but how many first game players are up with the intensity of AFL? The fastest way to get up to speed is to play at the level.

I hate to keep raining on parades, but I don't want another young guy thrown to the wolves and thankfully I don't think Roos will

Christian Salem: Christian had 32 possessions. He played his first game as an inside midfielder for Casey. He used the ball quite well and was instrumental in the last quarter, helping Casey win the game. The thing he needs to work on is his accountability once the ball leaves the stoppage area. But otherwise, he’s going well.

Don't think we will see him

James Strauss: James played half-back, wing and forward. He did well in all areas of the ground. He used the ball really, really well – his disposal efficiency was 95 per cent. He had 21 possessions and looked his best when he was running and carrying the ball. But he can get caught just taking it sideways and backwards at times.

Looks like the assessements are getting more and more actual

Would give the posters somebody to bag again should he come in

But he shouldn't come in as he is not up to AFL standard, as has been proven time and time again. He is exactly the kind of player with whom we should bite the bullet and delist, and try our luck elsewhere. There are a number on the list at the moment.

I agree with Saty on Salem - short term we would all like to see him come into the seniors but for his long-term development I'd like to see him string at least half a season of very good performances together in the VFL before coming in to the seniors. This will not only build his confidence, get him used to competing against bigger/harder bodies and build his match fitness but will hopefully allow him to have the non-negotiables ingrained into him before stepping up. Just having pace and skill isn't enough he needs to learn what is required by him off the ball as well as all the 1%ers, tackles, contested ball situations etc

Our development has been deplorable for far too long because 1) we have brought kids in too early without teaching them the fundamentals and 2) we have relied on these kids to be the match-winners/difference makers instead of just letting them find their feet and cement a senior spot. Hopefully this is changing.

For those who refer to JKH I can agree to an extent however 1) they are playing different roles and 2) JKH could probably benefit from some time in the VFL as well.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
