Finally, a possible A-Grader

Left Field

Recommended Posts

Still hasn't played 10 games yet, but Dom Tyson has had over 30 touches in his first two games under Paul Roos high possession game plan.

He is still a bit wasteful, but how long since we've had anyone who works hard on the inside and outside as well?

No he is not getting tagged yet, but he is very young and is already taking a lot of pressure off Nathan Jones (the latter recording his two highest possession games first up).

If Dom tidies up his ball use, I reckon we might finally have found a possible future A-Grader.

With Tyson, jones and cross in the middle and vince and viney going in there im confident that area is sorted.

We are still missing a couple of Isaac Smith/Stephen Hill types. Blease doesn't have a big enough tank, Bail hasn't got the necessary skill, Toumpas and Trengove too slow.

I'll feel it's sorted when we don't lose eight straight centre clearances to start a game. I still can't get my head around how that happened.

Yep. That had nothing to do with being down on forwards. Attitude not right.

It has everything to do with having a ruckman who would not get a game in any other club playing against 2 of the better rucks in the comp.

I would definitely persist with Blease because he has the courage to take the game on. I was reasonably pleased with Byrnes' game on the weekend. He worked very hard and didn't do much wrong. However, he is not the future.

So you read the opposition Ruckmen or just give up?

Yeah its fine to say that but given the opposition know loosely where its going and train for it I'd say less than a 50/50 win for Spencer makes getting clearances far more difficult. Add to that you've got nicnat who effectively contests the bounce then plays like a midfielder.

I'm looking forward to Gawn getting up for a game. Spencer is okay at running interference but can't take a mark around the ground or up forward.

Spencer has to be taken from the ground for a rest whereas Gawn could be rested up forward.

What I like about Tyson is that he is what I would call a natural footballer, with a footballer's brain. In other words, he knows where to go to get the ball, and he also (generally) makes the right decisions with it. Stands out like the proverbial in our team. It's a shame he's not slightly quicker but it wouldn't matter if we had some other guys in the team with pace. Only thing I query at this stage is his defensive efforts and tackling...nowhere near as good when the opposition has the ball but that's typical of kids who've been star juniors and never had to worry about defence, so that will change. Great pick up. Let's just hope Jack Viney comes in soon to add to the mix, and when he's ready, Salem becomes what we hope him to be.

I can't wait for him to team up with his old teammate Jack Viney again. They were both stars at the Oakleigh Chargers a few years ago and I've been awaiting their reunion with bated breath so far. Pity they won't have any key forwards for target practice in the foreseeable future.

Yes and people say he is over rated :).

Spencer was not going to win a tap out in that initial onslaught.

Plan B straight away. We have no players with mongrel apart from Jonesy.

High draft picks year after year and nothing to show for it.

Modern footy is all about momentum shifts and we didn't give a yelp in that first Q.

It was SO predictable.

Somebody else will do it....

It had nothing to do with forwards, but it also had nothing to do with attitude.

It had a lot to do with us having inept ruckmen (Spencer is a joke of a player) and West Coast having great ruckmen, plus a great midfield.

Or get ball side of your opponent and back your wingers to get off their lines quickly to cover the spread?

we didn't even spread in the first quarter with high energy levels still availble. Left it to "someone else"

Leaders with no authority.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
