Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Were you at the same game as me?

Dunn - Contested marks - 0

Clangers - 3

Marks in forward 50 - 0

Tackles - 1

I rate Dunn but as a backman.

Edit:- Sorry to jump on you jaseon, I just noticed 1st post, well done, some of us can be a bit grumpy. Normally I would not have a go at an early poster, keep it up. I actually would pick Dunn in my best 10 players against WCE and the Saints.

Sorry, you are right about contested marks. However, this was entirely because he was actually presenting a lead and finding space, ala the JKH goal. Which I'm only banging on about because it's the only one with footage up, I would of witnessed this at least two other times and that doesn't include the leads that weren't rewarded.

Of our other forwards on Sunday the only one I saw making an attempt to present was Pederson, who is too slow to break away from his man and find space, which, I believe, is why he often fails to take a mark. This is further compounded by players kicking too long or too short.

I do prefer Dunn as a backman and remember a stat from last year that rated him Number 1 in the comp for 1on1's but I think we need his foot skills and his ability to actually present a lead in the half forward line if we want to kick some goals this Sunday. As much as the problem is our forward line, it's also the fact we simply turn the ball over across half forward too often

I like the idea of McDonald in the forward line, but with his kicking would he even score any goals? Garland played forward against Essendon two years ago and did alright, so if he's playing this week it's an option too.

Gawn is the most dangerous for mine.

I also want to see Dean Kent playing again, love his attack on the ball. Was sitting near him at the game on Sunday, Sam Blease and others kicking back, checking the phone and feet on seats. Dean Kent was in the 2nd front row of the Members, away from the other players with what I think was his Mum and Dad. All game he only had eyes for the footy, looked a bit shattered but was focused on what was going on rather than checking his supercoach scores.

I would put him in the top 5 in terms of workrate.

He seems to have lost all power in his running.

Could we be seeing after effects of OP or the foot injury?

When he was drafted, he was never lightning fast, but he certainly seemed to be able to accelerate.

The last couple of grabs in this video highlight his running power before he was drafted.

Jack Trengove U18

Whatever, he needs to stay in.

LIST CLOGGER absolutely no impact on the game gets to the ball late always gets beaten becuase he lacks strength

A sad indication of where we are at is that over the first 2 games are best players have been:Jones - last 2 years standout player.Vince - Adelaide didn't wantTyson - couldn't get a game in a side they had won 2 games all yearCross - 34 year old reject from a bottom 8 sideDunn - Hats off to this bloke - gives his all and has worked hard on all aspects of his gameWatts - typical yo - yo - good one game , rubbish the next.

All first round draft picks and/or B&F winners at their current or previous clubs.

Bunch of hacks.

To be honest I have no idea.

The guys with talent are injured and the ones that are fit are not up to it or they would have played the first two rounds.

Having said that they can hardly be worse than a few from Sunday.

I am sick of hearing that we don't have the cattle up forward! It's insulting to the players who are in contention, and just generally uncreative thinking. Of the missing CLARK, HOGAN, DAWES. Only Clark is a proven multiple goal scorer so we must show creativity in coaching and not simply "stick a tall (Pederson) up there". Pedo is ill equipped in the role and is not an answer.

How's this for a forward line for this week? Not all conquering by any means, but enough height and pace to straighten a team up.

FF: Howe Fitzy Dunn

HF: Blease Watts JKH

The logic;

Blease: has kicked a bag of 5 in an AFL game. Just play him forward pocket Roosy!

Watts: is a tall target, with serious talent and our mids stocks are far better than our forward stocks atm

JKH: can get a FULL GAME to show what he has

Howe: capable of kicking a few

Fitzy: get him up and running from CHF, using his speed and running up the ground. Make him watch 248 Nick Riewoldt games in a row.

Dunn: the guy can kick goals when needed. Kicked huge bags in the 2's from memory (8?).

*just added cattle 'up forward' as I was referring to the forward line

I'm really liking Michie's game so far. He goes hard at it the ball when it's nearby, and there's a lot of untapped potential. It's becoming clear to Roos which existing Melbourne players have already hit their ceiling, and that will be his focus.

I don't understand those wanting to dump Michie. He was as good as any in the first half, after getting his eye split. Even the commentators on the replay I watched were spruiking him. Third and fourth quarters he was played of the HFF which in the Dees is starvation corner and delivery was brutal. I do not understand why the ball is directed to Watts every time or worse to a three on one and even 4 on one contest at one time. It was clear Viv was presenting yet time and again ignored. Somebody said Roos should look at the old players. I agree. They carry the baggage and operate like they are waxing in the school yard. Want to change the culture you get new blood in. BTW do you no Michie wears contacts and with the cut eye probably couldn't wear one in his left eye. Also he has played just 10 quarters of footy and compared to many of the Dees 30 plus games offers something. How many of us were at the level we expect of these young players when we were in our third day on the job.

I also worry that JKH has far to great expectations on him. He is light framed and whilst he has sparkle and real promise the fans seem to see him as the cure for all deficiencies. Roos said that these new youngsters are not the ones to lean on and that the old heads are where the turn around will come from. He is right and its time he moved some on. No one should be sacrosanct.

Sorry for the rant

It was refreshing to see Roos' comments actually. He was starting to fall into the trap of repeating old cliches used by Neeld and Bailey during the week just gone. Let's not forget too, that in 10 years in Sydney his biggest losing margin was 73 points. He's already eclipsed that in his 2nd game here. This team really is garbage.

When did he coach Sydney without its forward line? Cannot compare his tenure at Sydney with the two games he has had with Melbourne.

If you were going to play him this would be a good week, playing GWS and without Davis, Mohr and Gilham.

He has to be elevated off the rookie list first and given that Aidan Riley is about to come off the LTI, how would you go about this?

Put Dawes or Hogan on the LTI?

I don't think so.

Unfortunately, we are stuck with our list of about 30 healthy and match ready players less four or five who are too young, not ready or so badly out of form that they can't be considered even for this combination.

I still don't think someone like Roosy is going to panic but with our talls and KPF's not available, I expect to see an introduction of pace and players who can run through the lines. The three emergencies from last week stand out to me as likely inclusions and a change of position of one of our taller defenders to the forward line might do the trick. There have been calls from time to time for Frawley to be played up forward and perhaps now is the time for it to happen. Put him up there with Watts, Fitzpatrick and Howe with blokes like Blease (once kicked 5 goals in a forward role) and the long kicking Kent with instructions to the players to play a more attacking game and it would certainly be a different look. I'm willing to predict that the result would be our highest score for the year.

There is constant bemoaning on this site about the lack of information the Club provides, interesting that some don't listen to or read what is actually on the website

Nev Jetta was in the best for Casey in the 3 practice games played, because he is playing FINALLY in the position that suits him best, at halfback

The fact that he is a rookie makes it very difficult at the moment to elevate him to the Senior list unless we get an long term injury again

Jade Rawlings also gave him a pump out in the preview video for the Saints game

yes i had read that some time ago, & had partially forgotten he's a rookie, but Clark is now out for some time. any way its tuned, I'd hope that Jetta is kept in the VFL, till he's really gotten his new mojo firing on full force, before they give him a run in a good Mfc side.

I happen to think jetta has the G&D to do something in footy, but so many before have been crushed be the devil that becalms us.

Correct, Dunn has been good down back. His forward work poor, he came as a forward don't know what happened.

he did some better stuff late last week, forward. he looks more focused & less fearful.

& has taken some contested marks with signs of courage.

We need another target. Watts has shown to be better in the midfield because he doesn't demand the ball and Pederson is not the answer.

Dunn needs to go forward until the cavalry return and Gawn should come in if he is fit.

Dunn, or Garland this week, as Garlo gets some match fitness. play garlo forward for a week.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
