I remember the hawks playing this style early in Clarksons coaching career and they turned it over early on but as they played that way more their skills improved and the rest as they say is history.

Why isn't Fitzpatrick forward? They are just double teaming Hogan.

Yeah...where did Fitz go. Has a good tank, very little involvement, so why was he being "rested"?

that was a pretty poor first quarter from us.

geelong were able to take it away from the centre with impunity, and our defensive forwards - toumpas, byrnes - did not put a scintilla of pressure on their running overlap defenders.

clisby composed and neat down back, dunn the same, watts and michie working hard on the wings.

only three players - cross, spencer and bail - have laid more than one tackle, and then only two tackles each. we've really lacked defensive pressure tonight.

Actually, the scoreboard flatters us.

Maybe....but in this "practice game" one can see Roos' game plan evolving.

Geelong are a top 4 quality team and we are matching them imo in most areas, the difference in polish is just incredible, but we will get that in time, the direction and game plan is there though, first time in 5 years.

Geelong got a serious and slightly scary run on, it seemed like it was all their way for a lot of that quarter. BUT we still managed to peg a few goals and keep the scoreline (flatteringly) under control.

What would that have looked like 6 months ago?

I'm on the edge of my seat for the next quarter...

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
