Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have heard from multiple people that we rated Brayshaw above Petracca, he had been training with us previously, Roosy has seen a lot of him and i'd be fairly comfortable saying he would have got the nod if we didn't get both picks.

not that it really matters, Col is still a dud

i really don't think where the two were taken is a reflection of anything other than the pick 1 race publicly was between petracca and Mccartin so the mfc decided to play along and take Petracca at 2, the same way we will probably never know who their other preferences were

Wow.....You seem a bit bitter Col B.....I don't know why you think having a few drinks off season is unusual for young blokes......I know of a lot of AFL players who go out til the early hours even in season....I admit that having a water with a Bikie is probably not the best idea. I don't think they were arrested or were drunk at the time of the photo and I take it you presume that their lives are headed for rack and ruin but its their lives and they can do whatever they want to

They would have earned a fair bit of money in their playing days....So good luck to them.

I always liked Sylvia and Beamer and was disappointed when they left, but that is footy these days.

Anyhow........Neither plays for us anymore so my interest has wanned but I wish them both success.

No bitterness here Bossdog. I do get a bit jack of hearing that boys will be boys when it comes to Melbourne players and then we see:

1) Melbourne players (current and former) getting caught making a beer snake on live television and then getting thrown out of the MCG.

2) Melbourne players allowing pizzed friends to drive their cars and then having said car smashed into a pole. Melbourne player then leaves the scene of the accident.

3) Abovementioned gangster photo.

4) Abovementioned Melbourne player confirmed drinking with Alan Didak and Christopher Hudson before Hudson's rampage in the CBD.

5) Melbourne player ejected from bar after consuming too much alcohol. Stripped of vice captaincy.

6) Two young Melbourne players caught dressing up like Rolf Harris and one of his victims on Mad Monday.

Not to mention what I hear in my comings and goings around Melbourne about Beamer, Col and their post 6 o'clock outings.

You are right however. Geelong, as successful a club as there is, does enjoy a drink in the off season. Their mad Monday is renowned as one of the best in the league. But that's the point. It happens at the end of the year. No one is allowed to carry on like a nuff nuff. And once it's over, they stay out of the headlines.

So much irony in this.

If we had pick 2 we would have most likely selected Petracca and Frawley would be wearing red and blue for 2015= We wouldn't be having this discussion in regards to Frawley the jury being out....

But because we picked up pick 3 from Chip leaving which netted us Brayshaw its almost exactly a straight sway which i find a win win for both clubs. Though i am not surprised you completely missed the point.

The word you are looking for is not ironic, it is hypocritical. Which is garbage because I do not go around calling people out on details that are not important to the point they are making.

I missed the point? I am the one making the point. You're telling me I've missed my own point?

We are down a senior key position player of proven quality in his prime footy years

Whether it is CP or AB you are talking about they will need to actually PERFORM over their career for it to be a win for us

Perhaps you are already counting it as a win based on the wonderful return we have had from all of other high draft picks in McLean, Sylvia, Morton, Trengove, Watts, Scully and Toumpas

If the aim of the game is to get a solid 10-year player amongst the league's best, then our current strike rate is 0 out of 7 for that group.

and back to the greater point, Roos wanted to keep Frawley and was unable to. Hawthorn will be very happy to have acquired his services. We got a highly rated kid out of it but it is not yet a win, not by a long shot.

I think CLark will struggle. HIs body is pretty fragile even when he is going well. After such a long lay off and with a history of calf and foot injuries he will struggle IMO. As for the mind well its safe to say thats fragile too.

I hope this is correct - I also think Lumumba will be a very good acquisition for us

Geelong great culture and discipline is just a huge myth. There recent success has wall papered over just as many incidents as other clubs

Try this for a start

Dawson Simpson caught drink driving

Smelts and Caddy caught pulling prank as burglars on the wrong house.

Sorry I disagree, clubs rank and list the players in an order as to who they will take for when their pick is available (particularly in the first round).

As the draft proceeds they cross the names off called out before their selection. When it's time for their selection they take the highest name on that list.

I know this because my scout/ recruit friend sits on one of the drafting table (another club) and has told me.

The romance of selecting Petracca at 2 because of the public race with McCartin at pick 1 is nothing but rubbish. If the club rated Brayshaw ahead of Petracca he would have been selected at 2.

my understanding was that earlier in the year, we looked like having only having pick 2 to use (before we knew Frawley was gone and that we would indeed get a first round compo) and it was also assumed that Petracca would go at 1 - therefore it was Brayshaw that our interest was in. Then, we got the compo pick and at the same time McCartin firmed for no1 so it changed things. I think it is entirely fair to say that had we had only pick 2 it may well have been Brayshaw

The thing that 'changed things' was the Saints taking McCartin.

I think it is probably guessing as up until a week before the draft most thinking was McCartin and Brayshaw to us. To me it was no brainer that given a choice of Brayshaw or McCartin we would have taken Brayshaw. Not so sure it is obvious who we would have taken out Brayshaw or Petracca . Happily we don't have to have that discussion.

did you miss the part where that was exactly what I said?

Not really, you have been saying that we would have taken Brayshaw had we only ND2 but if we only had ND2 we would have taken the best mid in the draft and that would have been the bloke we took at ND2.

Petracca was all the talk as ND1 until the last few weeks when the Saints started to do some backpedalling PR about the importance of Key Position prospects.

I don't think we would have left Petracca on the board - he was always going to be ND2 whether we had the next pick or not.

I might also ask the following question as well: Were any of those blokes in the leadership group or had any of them been at the club more than five years? Besides Chappy, most of them are periphery players. Most of the blokes I mentioned in my examples (Beamer, Col, Chip etc.) had been at the club for years. The stuff Billy bought up, as he put it in his own words, were all alleged.

The facts are their leading lights aren't pulling the stuff that Beamer, Col and the rest of the party boys at our club were pulling. Their senior core weren't behaving like drunken frat boys. Ours were.

PFT 1. and 6. are absolutely nothing cases and 2-5 are all attributed to two indivduals who longer play for us.. and in any case are pretty tame offenses

I wonder sometimes if some Melbourne supporters were put in a room with Wayne Bennett, if they could answer the question that he posed to the 2000's Sydney Swans without bringing up 'uneven fixturing', 'unfair sanctions for tanking' or 'a bias towards the big Melbourne clubs'? The sad thing is we are all sick of losing but when reasons why we are/have been bloody awful are bought up, there really is nothing wrong with the place.

I have heard the exact same thing from a recent club scout (not MFC). Said they will take what they consider the best available for the club at that pick. Nothing else matters.

There are reasons of course but this is not one of them. Read my comment again - youve named 6 very minor indiscretions largely attributed to 2 former players. Sylvia was never given a sniff of leadership responsibility either. Big deal.

that doesn't mean they didn't consider AB a better option just because they said his name at 3

Beamer wasn't? He was supposed to be one of the leaders of our club for a period there (and apparently wanted to be made captain). When those players got kicked out of the MCG, Chip was in the leadership group.

I dispute as well that they were all minor. Some weren't hanging offenses but that was my point in my original post. It's this crap where we apologize for the club's culture and some of it's employees actions over and over again instead of just admitting that some of our admin. and in this case, our senior core, have let us down through said actions.

one of the things you mentioned was a fancy dress costume by two completely irrelevant players. Demonstrates the degree to which you are clutching at straws. I am sure 99% of us had even forgotten about that 'incident' due to how completely unimportant it was.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
