Supercoach opened today and there are some cheap Demons players.

Jimmy Toumpas 240k

Dom Tyson 216k

Viv Michie 172k

JKH 117k

James Stauss 268k.

Will these players get a run?

Are there any other Demons of value.

Midfielders: Michie and Tyson great value if they can get in the team and average around 20 touches they will rise in value by heaps. Both Grimes and Vince listed in low 400k with an average score around 80 but both can score a lot more than that. Toumpas and Kent worth thinking about if you expect break out seasons.

Defenders: Again Grimes. Watts and Strauss if you are brave

Forwards: Clark especially and Dawes if you are braver. Hogan should rise his value by a fair bit but I think he'll only average 60 so you'll have to trade him out once he's gone up in value

Rucks: I'd stay away from our guys

Clark, Tyson and Grimes are locks for me.

Blease hasn't been mentioned yet, I've got him on the bench at this stage. Has dropped to 179k and can be selected as a midfielder or forward. I'll wait to see where he fits into Roos' plans.

Clark, Tyson and Frawley for me. With a (hopefully) improved defensive mindset including midfielders spreading back to help out, this will release Frawley's attacking flair and he will average 80+ this year.

Wouldn't get Frawley - there is too much value in the backs this year. But I could end up eating my words.

I have Grimes, Tyson and Clark but have had Viv, Strauss and Blease already this year (and Stef Martin which was a dark moment). I think there could be some great value for melbourne with the first half of the season being somewhat easier.

Tyson, Hogan and Grimes.

With our improvement we'll be having more of the ball so individual scores will go up.

Hogan and Tyson both have been in the system ling enough and will be great for making some $.

Grimes will be back to his best.

Right now I have Grimes, Georgiou, Michie and JKH in my side.

I don't think I've ever had that many Dees in my side at one time!

Here's hoping they all line up round 1.

The lid has been well and truly been blown off on JHK, apart from us Dee supporters in the know, every man and his dog will have him at least as a f7or f8

Who else is loading up with Demons? I know it's a cardinal sin of Supercoach, but it's not without merit. Last season I selected about 5 Port Adelaide players and that delivered in spades.

Watts has now come into my calculations after the intraclub hit out. I was burnt last year, but at 411k, in a new midfield role, I think he's definitely worth the gamble. There really aren't many reliable forward options this year, anyway.

Grimes, Tyson, Blease (M7), King (R4), Watts and Kennedy-Harris are who I'm starting with. Would like to fit Minchie in, but Blease's dual position status gives him the edge for now. I also think Trengove is in for a big price rise, but for me he's too expensive for a midfield gamble.

Yeah I've squeezed Watts in, he is too cheap not to - plus as you mentioned, the midfield role. On top of that he is dual option for supercoach, forward and back.

I couldn't fit him in my star studded backline, so he is in my less than average forward line.

Drop Blease for Michie and thank me later.

I got burnt by Watts last year, he was tearing up in pre-season, come the 1st game, scored 15 - 30pts?? His feet never touched the ground as he got traded out. A waste of a trade. I wont be in such a hurry this year to pick him, I'll sit back and see how he goes regardless of his new role.

Michie and JKH must haves.

Watch and see if we continue the high possession game against Geelong, then load up on some more mids.

Maybe Watts should've been a mid all along.

I've been swayed by some astute demonlanders that this may be the case.

If so, Watts is a must have, it is certainly worth the risk, he'll be around the ball and is a SC dual position player.

At 411k, you could do far worse. Definitely a risk worth taking.

Dees are going to be like 2013 Port, but probably even better, we will be SC gold.

Dom Tyson is a must have, he'll end up around 450k,

All those mentioned appear to be good value. Though I'm wary of Blease. I'm punting on Toumpas to increase in value. (around 400K). If Bail continues the sort of form he showed in NAB cup 1, then might be worth a punt as well.

Yes, wary of Blease, too. Unlike Watts, he's never been a good Supercoach scorer. At 179k, it would be easy to save 50k on a true rookie.

Still, from intraclub reports, he would appear to be firmly apart of Roos' plans. I'll wait to see how he performs in the remaining challenge matches.

Unfortunately, after the game last week, I too have loaded up my team with MFC players! Yes its a cardinal sin of SC but at some time Melb have to become SC relevant and have our players score well - and consistently. And with PR's game plane (yes we have only seen it competitively in one game) the high possession style he has them playing means that the likes of Watts, Tyson, Toumpas, Trengrove, Michie, etc are now viable options to at least make some money if they don't stay in your team for the season.

For the record (at the moment, that is...) I have Watts, Georgiou*, Tyson, and JKH in my team. But Jack Martin could easily become Toumpas and any other mid rookie could become Michie and I have had Grimes in my backline at various stages. Yes, I was burnt by Watts last year as well so I struggled to put him in - but sometime it has to click for him. (But I am also starting to question my sanity b/c I also have Shaun Higgins in my forwards!!! ).

* Assuming he gets elevated and plays round 1

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
