Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

After a brief analysis of the 2014 draw I have extracted the following result:

Wins 10 - StKilda, West Coast, GWS, Carlton, Bulldogs, Port, Essendon, Bulldogs, Lions, GWS

Draw 1 - Collingwood

Loss 12

Gotta be the easiest draw we have ever had.

Come on Dees!

Sportsbet have us at $12 to make the eight.

Will 42 points be enough?

If you were an insider of the club, you wouldn't be putting any limits on what you can achieve.

As a supporter but someone who is not inner sanctum, I would say 9-10 wins would be a street better than what happened in 2013 and Roos should be considered for a knighthood if that happens.

Being pragmatic about it, I would give 5-7 wins with no major blowouts a pass mark.

Hey, you posed the question "where will we finish" yet you didn't make a prediction... come on, show some conviction to your cause :)

I think we will finish 10th at best and 12th at worst; it really all comes down to how we start the season... some early wins (first game in particular) will see the team's confidence soaring and more wins should follow, an early loss (first round in particular) and it will be "oh no, here we go again"... and after last year's debacle, it won't take too much to have them on their knees again.

Anywhere from bottom half of the eight to the bottom ut my best guess would be 9th but I would not be surprised if we made it in the 8.

Why, because I rate both ends of the ground and think we have a defence that can match any forward line in the comp and a forward line that can kick wining scores. I also think the midfield has poentially improved significantly in the off season and is now capable of gettng enough ball. This imporvement has come from some targeted recruitment and will also come from improvements from players like Watts, Trengove, Viney (gonna be a star), Evans, Matt Jones, Blease, Tapscott etc now havng had a couple of seasons in a professional AFL development system (Misson etc). The other main improvement from last year will be a game plan that has buy in from the playing group, that is effectve, and can be executed by the players we have on the paddock. All this equals a competetive AFL team that will win games.

I think the sky is the limit, the only limiting factor being how long it takes for the team to be effective at implementing the game plan structures. I have confidence in Roos, Rawlings, Stone and co to get this done in quick time.

Where will we finish NEXT YEAR ?????

I dont really care as long as there are no more INSIPID performances and as long as we are competitive in ever GAME !!!

All I want as a Melbourne supporter for now is to be able to hold my head high and look other supporters in the EYE and say

Watch out !! The DEES are on THE MARCH and we are only going to go from strength to strength from here on :)

The players will be aiming to win every game. This is about predictions, not aspirations.

If that is the case we should win more than 8-9. Good.

Depends how well the players prepare. They will be fit.

But how strong is the single and collective strength of the mind(s)?

This is where any improvement will be.

I agree. As it is exactly where we finished this year (as thread topic asks)

I think we should remane the thread as follows for pedantics

Where (question adverb introducing a direct or indirect question) will (used for forming the future tense of verbs that follow, but does not have a future tense of its own) Melbourne (in this context means the Melbourne Football Club Limited ACN 005 686 902) finish (to do the last part of something that is complete and in this context referring to the completion or end state of an AFL season) this (used as a determiner and in this context referring to the football season that has not been completed, ie 2012) Year (a period of 365 days or 366 in a leap year, may refer to a calendar year or financial year or in this context a football year that is not precribed or defined other than by the individuals notion of completion or commencement).

In which case The Big Frog was on the money... however, if we were to ask about next year, I would still say 10th at best and 12th at worst.

You lost me when you said we would beat West Coast, Carlton, Port and Essendon.

Take those teams out and you have 6 wins - I would be very happy with that. Provided we are competitive in most of our games (within 40-50 points) then I will be happy. No 100 point losses!

I see this as the best case scenario - I have no Idea what the Crows and West Coast are up to. Are they going to drop down soon or are they going to hang around the 8 for a bit?

Bulldogs are also a hard one to pick - have they got enough talent/youth to start climbing up the ladder?

12. West Coast?

13. Crows?

14. Melbourne

15. Lions

16. Bulldogs

17. GWS

18. Saints

Come on, you pessimists.......it is November, the month of unbridled optimism.

Clearly we will play into late September, and surprise everyone!

Don't really care how many wins we have or where we finish on the ladder, but it would be great if we went north of 5 wins for the season.

The major indicator for us will be percentage,70-90% should be our aim not the 50-60% we scrapped together in 2013.

Bwahahahah!!! If we win 10 and draw with Coll in 2014, I'll bare my rrrse in Bourke St and run the length of the mall. I've heard of optimism, but let's show just a little realism. Beat WC, Carlton, Port or Ess and draw with Coll? No. If we win 5 or 6 and finish 14th we should be thrilled.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
