Clichés

I thought this time of year might be a good chance to look back at clichés we've used over the season.

Some of my favorites:-

"I'm a glass 1/2 full person". (Navel gazer.)

".....taller players take longer to mature...." Sometimes preceeded with "We all know"

I think there's been an "...elephant in the room...". That's a real now expression. I'm just looking for places to use it.

My favourite " ...you have to give something to get something ...". I call that the loser's cliché.

What about ".. Moderators, please lock this ...". I've copped that a couple of times. To use something I think may become a more used cliché soon "I wear it as a badge of honour."

Of course the worst one I heard over the year was "[so & so] defeated Melbourne ..[some scores]"

Yes, I'm bored.

Ill just take this thread one post at a time !! ^_^

"I'm a glass 1/2 full person". (Navel gazer.)

The glass is always full unless it's in a complete vacuum. It's more a matter of whether it is full of liquid.

"It is what it is" Really grinds my gears !!

Haven't heard of "the reality bus" since it hit Neeld when he wasn't looking!

"Going through the process" and "One game at a time"

They both annoy me.

In fairness though, the players can't really win, if they show any arrogance, the media jumps on them.

They are what they are.

How about "they are training the house down" (if that is a cliché)

I don't want to hear about Keyboard Warriors this season.

You've come to the wrong place Col.

LOL. Yes, but now they (whoever they are) are questioning if there is something in a vacuum too. I hope that is explained to me in my lifetime.

I don't want to see any.

FWIW has to be the most overused, unnecessary and infuriating acronym I've come across on Demonland.

It's definitely a demonland cliché.

... (FWIW, I'm excluding myself from this particular cliché as I've never used it..)

Incorrectly calling an abbreviation such as FWIW as an acronym can be equally infuriating.

'Without doubt, this is the worst team we've picked all year'

My fave that covered rounds 2-22 this year ;)

Taller players do take longer to develop but hey call it a cliche if it suits your rubbish thread

Tom Gillies is a good pick up......

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
