I am not sold on Freeman because of his size and lack of polish. The Dangerfield comparisons are a bit of a stretch and undervalue Dangerfield's huge body.

KK will be an AFL player but looks very outside like a young Andrew Mackie.

Aish also looks too outside. I like outside players only if they are fast and well skilled and I don't view him as exceptional.

Assuming Boyd goes at #1, I would then go for Scharenberg, Bontempelli, Kelly, Lennon and Crouch in that order. The draft is not that strong IMO. Scharenberg looks a gun IMO.

It would be ironic if Aish was there @9. Or a Billings.

Hopefully Bontempelli slides to us, I think he looks so similar to Ben Reid from Collingwood, breaks the lines, agile, long kick with a fluent action, composed, has height and weight(give him a couple of years in the gym) has a lot of upside, we should take this guy if he is free. Could play any position on the ground.

Billings is perfect for GC, they have a solid midfield already but could use a half forward. Every time I have watched him Play, I have been impressed with his over head marking and his precision kicking and ball use.

This guy has all the polish to go top 2. Has a footy brain and will be a star.

Further more we're talking about component AFL men now. Schwab, Neeld and Connolly would waste a valuable pick on a player purely to satisfy another... What a ridiculous idea.

With Roos and Jackson they'll rely on our wins to keep players.

The thought is that if the club rated Sheed & another draftee equally and couldn't split them, then the Hogan link would give Sheed the edge in being selected. This is what I see being part of the "creating the right environment" that PJ has talked about

Apologies; it's not a sound drafting strategy.

Trengove & Tapscott the perfect example.

Whilst Trengove's career to date seems to have stalled, he's still a keeper.

I think if Tapscott were to be traded today, his departure would be largely met with ambivalence by supporters, such has been his impact.

In such a scenario, where is the value in recruiting Tapscott ahead of more talented players?

Was Trengove a flight risk in his previous 4 seasons?

Will Tapscott's brief presence at the club somehow convince Trengove to stay if offered a fat contract at the Crows in 2 years' time?

It just defies common sense as a drafting strategy, especially when considering the average tenure of draftees.

What if Lucas Cook was drafted on the same basis?

Seeing that he was gone in 2 seasons, how would his presence make a buddy teammate stay, when he didn't even outlive his or their first contract?

As for Tapscott, he may have been drafted as Trengove's mate to ease his introduction, but that's why you have a competent player welfare officer. Unless the kid is a social retard, he'll find mates and grow strong relationships.

If Tapscott was taken for that reason, it's another black mark against the reign of Prendergast, Bailey & Schwab.

my pref' wants from the limited videos I've seen are > Lennon/KKoljazznee/Dunstan

*IMO Lennon can play anywhere well, almost from the get go. plug&play. hbf or mids

*Koljazznee is a flanker with penetration desperately needed, (if he can stand the rough stuff???) longer term option.

*Dunstan HBF, quarterback/midfielder roles. plug&play. ready to role. real Team player, releases grimes to more shutdown roles or mids. *this guys an architect.

I don't think the concept of "creating the right environment" is about drafting players based on existing friendships.

That's naive.

It's also naive to think that you'd have 2 players that you simply can't split.

There will always be one favoured over the other no matter how slight.

But if you really need a decider, it shouldn't be that.

The real quality that will attract a player to want to stay, is playing for a winning club.

That and money.

Not playing with your mates in a losing side.

Recruit for talent.

Always.

I will say yes.

I would also say that there would also be some disadvantages of bringing young blokes familiar to each other to the same footy club.

I would say they were good pick ups at 18,19 & 20. Grundy was a steal and Kennedy was also seen as an earlier pick.

I would also say that many thought Tapscott was a steal when we got him (unfortunately hasn't come on) and it had nothing to do with Trengove being his mate that we picked him.

from the little bit i watched, I wasn't all that excited with sheed. maybe I need to watch again, as others have salivated. I may have not payed attention.
