Mark Robinson clearly has little understanding

The Hun scribe has penned this effort

Melbourne's momentum has halted but it can change by keeping pick No.2 in the draft

In it he waffles on lamenting our lost "momentum" , that we are about to 'waste" a #2 pick by doing some ridiculous deal. Strangely his example is trying to get three 50's for a 100..Now If I could do that every day I'd be happy.

Robinson is amongt those that clearly fail to understand what this club is trying to achieve. He fails to realise we, unlike his self , have abandoned this romantic notion that all can simply be fixed by the wave of a wand and the materialisation of some Wunderkid who apparently fixes all ills. We, unlike him, have now come to realise you need a gang of decent footballers before you attempt any icing. Icing might hide a wonky bake but its still there when the proof of the pudding comes to testing.

I find it humurous that anyone who fails to quite understand the recalcitrant and delinquent ,mischievousness of Windy Hill should put finger to keyboard to question our methodolgy to improve our situation.

This bozo has clearly missed not only our intent, but our position

I would say the whole trade period has lost momentum at the moment but things should pick up next week. Poor old Robbo has nothing to write about.

Now you've gotten to the heart of the issue. This happens all the time - if there's nothing to say, the writers just fill their column with horse poo instead of just saying nothing.

The reality is, over the last 10 years there's only been 2 or 3 times when pick 2 is significantly in front of pick 9. This is also often dependent on injuries as well. So any deal that includes us getting good/promising young player/s and pick 9 might work out massively in our favor. I trust that Roos, Taylor and Viney will not be doing this just for the sake of it, and if they keep or trade 2, that's because they deem it the right the call.

Posted

For me the irony is he talks of momentum. Now we may well end up keeping #2 if the deal we seek doesnt materialise but we're after a ready to go player so that we can MAINTAIN MOMENTUM . Getting a kid only puts him in the running to develop and in reality adds nothing to the momentum, it actually adds to inertia.

He has to write about something BB.

Maybe he could write about all the trades Messendon have accomplished during this silly season !!

It irks me for he clearly hasnt looked into things with any real understand or vigour. If so he would see that we are actually accomplishing exactly that which he feels we are failing at.

Robinson is right, nothing that is in his article isn't debated on this site every day. Pick 2 we get the deal we want take it, if we don't we go to the draft, just don't give it away. The senior Assistant has been an issue, but what he doesn't highlight is Roos will most likely coach for 3 years instead of 2. We have lost our two main sponsors again, as an outsider the club has stalled but so has 16 clubs, the trade period has been a non event, nothing is happening anywhere only North has been active with a number of off field announcements.

The club has just ticked over 17,000 members, wouldn't it be great if through the trade, national draft and the start of pre-season we pick up some more momentum and push for 25,000 members by Christmas.

I dont quite read it that way at all DrD He doesnt want us at all to be inventive with e use of #2, just use it on a kid as though that magically will cure all etc. Pick 2 should be quite good but theres a timeliness about all this. Today starts today not in 2-3 years time.

Robinson seems to think the only value to us , in a meaningful way , is to draft. His experience in running a list is ????

There will be a number of Melbourne supporters who agree with his sentiments regarding pick 2.

do you ?

Although it is a poorly written article, Mark Robinson is really making the point that we need to be patient in our rebuild and I agree with him.

It is difficult to know what to do with our pick #2 without knowing who we would intend to take if we use it, how good they are versus the broader AFL (not just the draft pool), if they may be available at a later pick and also without having a good understanding of the depth of the rest of the draft. If we plan to take Aish or Kelly, we need to estimate their value (be it Griffen or Gaff) and we should only trade if we get sufficient return. If we intend to draft someone who is likely to slide to a later pick, we should consider trading our pick down the draft. Overall, I doubt trading the pick will be a good move because we are such an unattractive destination at the moment and we will be rejected by players worthy of the pick.

I also side with Robinson on the Vince trade because of his age and because I think pick #20 is overs.

As previously stated on here, the trade period has lost momentum at the present time. It goes on way too long. Compensation picks will be finalised today. I have every faith that Roos and his team will do the right thing with pick 2. The real deals will happen next week and we may just land Dylan Shiels.

Roosy is smart and he won't be dudded.

I think you are correct, unless there is something special on offer. Maybe Dylan Shiell ?

Otherwise, take the best kid.

I actually heard Robbo on SEN last night discussing this (albeit briefly) and I think it's a valid point. He was about generating excitement - rolling out a new Pick 2, with Hogan, with Viney, with Toumpas - a new era.

Not fussed about "missing" the anointed assistent - there will others in the mix by year's end.

Robbo always opens his mouth before he thinks about the topic.

He then just mumbles his way around without saying anything that resembles sense.

Did I just sound like Robbo?

Paul Roos and co need to land a VERY favourable trade before giving up pick 2 as in effect will be giving up Josh Kelly who is BOTH a gun player and also a terrific young man. He is also running in A final at APS aths tomorrow. My boys at school with him. So he would be very good fit with MFC. Can not see any top midfielders available for Roos to get instead.

Do not want a repeat of last year when MFC recruiters did not take Ollie Wines!

MFC have given up pick 2, 20 and 72 for Dom Tyson, and picks 9 and 53. Pick 20 was going to be used for Vince?? So maybe that deal off now.

compo pick for Vince

He has to write about something, and he wasn't wrong about the Buntine/Bugg trade imo. Nor was he wrong that missing out on Dew and losing Sylvia could be perceived as a momentum staller. Sure he jumped the gun early, but that's Robbo.

He doesn't viciously hate the MFC like Wilson. He was all in favour of the club receiving a PP for a start.

I'm sure now the Tyson trade has happened he'll be saying well done, now keep it up.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
