Reading that article... my god.

The misplaced overconfidence is palpable.

And even watching that footage - the players have all gone so far backwards since then!

What on earth did Neeld do to them?

I'm just not sure what to say after reading/watching that...

It leaves me feeling cheated.

Totally agree. Watching some of the clips from 10/11 is just shattering.

All we needed was a coach to introduce a defensive side without completely retarding the development and confidence in the process.

Sad, so much was wrong with this pick and we missed Talia and Carlisle.

Looking back at his history, he had an average carnival and wasn't tested at the draft camp because of injury. Slow with no tank and average skills. I wouldn't blame development too much here, North put some weight on him and he still didn't make the grade, we picked the wrong guy. What were you thinking Barry?

One thing we need to be careful of is the Geelong stats, same with Toumpas this year. They won't bother with you if they are thrashing you on the scoreboard. You can go get as much ball as you want but you are not having an impact. Fools gold.

A couple of good games and many bad ones.

You can't polish a tu rd, but you can roll it in glitter.

After 2 seasons as a skinny kid was averaging over 19 touches and over 3.5 tackles per game - in a below average side. I'd say that's a pretty good return, and quite possibly with a better coach/development he'd be outperforming the No 1 draft pick of his year by now (not too difficult I suppose). Got screwed over by a control freak coach. Certainly ain't no turd!

Must have been screwed over by Scott too, I suppose?

I wonder what little stuie's thoughts on this are. Obviously he'd want the Giz back, because he's an elite trainer who's just been given a tough run, and all that.

Feel free to find the post where I said he's an "elite trainer".... or just continue to be a typical internet jerk who likes to misquote people.

All I ever said was the he was talented, had not been developed properly, and had bad timing with injuries.

With Roos coming in I'd much rather have a young underdeveloped tall clearance mid who was a high pick than an older fat spud Casey swingman.

Roos possibly could have done something with Gysberts, Pedo IS done.

I wouldn't go that far, but there certainly aren't many skinny kids getting a go at Norf. With they're midfield depth it wouldn't be easy for him to break in so I think it was a poor option of clubs to go to. Not sure if it has anything to do with his skill, it's his size. He struggles to put on bulk and that happens. He still goes hard at the ball so shouldn't have been dumped for that.

I think the fact that we ended up with Pedersen on the list is a whole separate disaster. With my Harry Hindsight hat on I'd have preferred it if we'd just delisted Gysberts and ended up with neither of them on the list.

I think you can question when a player is dumped by one club but I'm figuring that something is going on when you are dumped by your second.

Can't disagree with that!

It really is amazing that someone didn't slap Mark Neeld when some of these list decisions were being made last year, a 3 year deal for Pederson gets me every time i think about it, North Melbourne would have been pissing themselves laughing.

Wasn't Pedersen targeted by us - or at least Neeld ?

Also agree with FireInTheBelly that North was a poor option for Gysberts. Perhaps they were the only ones showing interest but they were already well stocked with young mids.

Gysberts had been nominated twice for the NAB Rising Star and got 3 votes in a win over Essendon.

Just sayin...

I recall in a player interview that they mentioned Gysberts bragging about his two Rising Star nominees (maybe it was Tom McDonald - in a joking manner), I wonder if it went to his head. Either way getting moved on from his second club should certainly give him a reality check. Its a shame really, he showed so many positive attributes but lacked the work ethic and want to succeed.

True, but there can be reasons. Not liked by coach, surplus to requirements. Having said that it is in a players hands to make himself a required player so you'd think there's something he's doing wrong. Still young though and plenty of time to get attitudes right.

I find it difficult to believe it was his attitude that got him in trouble with us after watching that video. At one point the caller said he'd started the movement from the defensive goal square and then delivered the pass inside 50. How many players do we currently have on our list that would even bother running that far?

I find it a concern that most players we trade or delist struggle at other clubs. It is an indictment om the development of the MFC and could impact trade value of other players od ours.

Or that given we tried to develop them and failed, and then a second club has had a go and failed too, that it falls more on the player in question.

It's a highlight clip at the end of the day. Attitude is more than just how he ran in one piece of play, it's about how he does it consistently, how he trains, how he reacts to criticism, whether he listens to instructions and so forth.

And for those couple of good games he played for us, he played a number of absolutely wretched ones, including his one and only game in 2012.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
