Patrick Karnezis

According to afl.com.au Karnezis is homesick and set to walk out on Brisbane - Karnezis keen to leave Lions at season's end

He's got some skills and height and could be a handy half forward/wingman. Needs development but can certainly find the footy and run in space.

Considering how keen we should be for immediate improvement I'd be consider our second round pick on the table. I'd certainly offer our third rounder in a flash.

I reckon he is a pretty handy footballer, probably going to attract abit of attention

If he's so good why has he only played 3 games this year?

I know he's been doing well in the reserves but that's eerily similar to the Pedersen situation and we know how that's turned out...

If they can't win their own contested ball I ain't interested.

Has some talent but would look very ordinary in our side where the delivery is poor and you're always under pressure. Just ask Shannon Byrnes.

We need players who win footy by running and taking marks as well. Of course priority number 1 for us should be inside midfielders but if we get a rotation of guys like Karnezis, Howe, Evans and Toumpas on our wings/half forward then that's important as well. I'm confident Karnezis can win the ball at half forward and on the wing through smart running and play a role.

Well he's a lot younger than Pedersen that's for sure and I think part of the reason he hasn't played is that Brisbane have seen this coming for quite a while. He also has lots of things to work on in his game. As bad as Pedersen has been if he was a midfielder he'd be going better than Magner, Couch and Rodan.

Reckon he can play too.

Has tricks as a half forward and thought he would make the transition to the mid/wing this year so not sure what happened. def the buzz player preseason.

Not sure MFCt is the right place to extract his best but can play if we do.

He's a pass for me.

Only really good for two goals a game, nothing phenomenal, may look better in a better side as a third tall (like a Jack Gunston) but that's about it.

Not exactly what we need and will just be another list clogger for us. As we all say we need mids, he won't fit with us.

Question marks on his decision making and disposal

Its a No from me

doesn't tick enough boxes and we already have too many of those

LOL. Or maybe its becuase he rejected a deal from the Lions after the NAB Cup Granny when the Lions wanted him to depserately sign and said to them I'm waiting till seasons end for contract talks.

Posted

We should look to bring him to the club as long as it doesn't cost too much. He will attract a lot of attention at the end of the year. He was the buzz player in preseason this year, but wasn't able to put it together when the Lions were struggling early on in the year after a good NAB cup. He's got a lot to offer as a half forward/wing/half back. He's got good dash, decent skills, and is a great size. At 190cm and 88kgs, he's a the prototype midfielder, and at only 21 years of age could still have a lot of development left in him.

If we can get him for a second-third round pick, or better yet, in the pre-season draft, it would be a good get for the club going forward.

So he is not getting a game because he refused to sign a contract? Not likely, if he was good enough he would be getting a game regardless of his contract situation

They are trying to iron out his defensive game as well but I think the contract is playing some role. There's also the fact that Voss seems to only rate about 18 players on Brisbane's list and they all get played every week in the same positions and there's about another 10 who go in and out of the team and never get a consistent run at it.

We need to bring in guaranteed talent - no more Pedersens or Byrnes

Explain to me why Voss would hand games to a bloke who isnt gonna be there next season? Like you have got to be joking me that you think he would still be selected.

Because he still has a year to run on his contract and if he doesn't play he is getting paid to do nothing?

He doesn't want to be there and didn't want to be there after early season.

He doesn't want to be there and didn't want to be there after early season.

If he is in their best 22 he'd be playing, you could argue Jack Watts doesn't want to be with us but is still playing.

Every player wants to play for Collingwood.

Or Hawks, Swans, Cats, Tigers, etc. Guess which team they don't want to play for?

I see it more like Koby Stevens when he was at the Eagles.

Same age, similar original draft positions, both cant get a game in their side

Koby Stevens is now playing very well for the Bulldogs

If we brought in only what you think are guaranteed talents - we would have half a list.

The fact is that we need to look at turining some fringe youngsters at other clubs into dependable players for us.

We will only have a small chance to get good Free Agents, we will only have a finite number of top 5 picks.

We need to bring in players we see as big improvers because that are players we can actually recruit.

And it is the same mindset that brought in Matt Jones, Terlich, and Clisby. 3 of our 4 hardest running players. If there are similar (there would be better) fringe players at other AFL clubs - get them to the Dees.

Posted

I have seen him in the NEAFL absolutely smashing it this year. It would seem that he made his intentions to return home known last year and Voss has only used him if absolutely necessary.

He may not be perfect fit for us right now. The comments about not winning his own ball are based wrong. He's been playing midfield and resting forward in the 2s and finding a lot of the ball both inside and outside.

If we could get him without giving much to the lions id take him.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
