Surely he would not be bad value sitting in a forward pocket along side Clark at Full Forward ?

It's a risk, you'd consider it depending on who our delistings are this year. I'd probably prefer Cross if we only went one near to retirement player (less risk, can run through the middle) but its worth consideration.

I love Paul Chapman and the way he goes about it. Me and my housemate have a long-running joke about 'Paul Chapman Eyes' --- that look in his face he gets when he just decides he doesn't want Geelong to lose, and he's going to personally do everything it takes to stop it from happening.

He could certainly teach a LOT (>80%) of our players about the mindset it really takes to be great.

Anyone who wouldn't consider him needs a frontal lobotomy. He is a high performing, goal kicking, strong marking, hard as hell, successful, big-game player who has spent the last 10 years tearing the Dees apart like no other individual footballer. His injuries over the past 2-3 years are a worry, but he is everything that we are not. He will play until he is 33, and he is the type of player we need - even more than a Sewell or Del Santo. If Geelong don't offer him a contract, just go and get him and don't let him say no.

He looks a million bucks now, but remember he has had to miss the entire season up to this point due to injury, after having a good preseason and reporting he was injury free just before round 1. He probably won't even survive Geelong's finals campaign.

The bloke is a certainty to miss at least half the season.

Can we deal with that? What will he be able to teach the clubs kids while he is off in rehab?

Maybe as an assistant coach, but I think as a player his days are unfortunately done.

The mind is willing, but the body not so much.

It's a shame, cos we could definitely use him.

The thing about Chappy is that he is basically what we should have targeted when we signed Byrnes and Rodan

experienced premiership player, tough, great leadership qualities, even if he only plays half the games he would be an asset in terms of the culture change we are looking to make.

wouldn't mind Luke Tapscott finding his way under his wing.

Love Chappy but he is almost shot, one more finals campaign for him if he can get through it and retire would be my advice. He is one hammy away from finished.

I tend to agree but isn't that the same reason we gave Junior the flick and he went on to play a decent season with GWS.

I wanted us to chase him last year.

he would have been a handy leader, but we would now not be in the same position, where the AFL have to help us out. PJ, Roos, etc.

lets have a coffee with him now anyway. Lingy, are you onto it?

Well I don't think Junior had another finals campaign unfortunately and he didn't play a full season with GWS, he was struggling by the end.

I hope to see Chappy finish at Geelong.

Chapman willing to play elsewhere: Pickering

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-09-14/chappy-will-play-on

GEELONG'S triple-premiership star Paul Chapman is keen to continue his career at a rival club next season if he can't get a deal done with the Cats, his manager Liam Pickering says.
Chapman faces an anxious wait ahead of next Friday's preliminary-final clash with arch rivals Hawthorn following a report for rough conduct in Geelong's 16-point semi-final win over Port Adelaide on Friday night.

we have precious little in the away of mature talent who has the magic of culture personified.

we all know we have to change ours & we lack leadership & some think Daisy will help. thats a joke. we may as well go after HShaw as well then.

Chappy is still good for many games a year at the Catters outfit, let alone in Our current jumper.

he would be a godsend to our leadership & cultural aspirations... hard & honest, & plays a winning brand of footy. the way is see it he would be a free agent. so cost no picks. just some $$$$$$ salary.

In my thinking we Need 2 Elders of high quality..... Free agency (Chappy, SThompson.... etc)

2 x players to fit into our 21Yr - 25Yr bracket.... Trade for

...... & hopefully we trade Out, 2 more players from our list, who Need a fresh pasture to resurrect their careers,,,, trade out for picks.

What a great player 'Chappy' is, but the trouble is a word in your last sentence...play. He just doesn't get on the ground enough to teach, if we could get him on the ground for a full season next year I'm with you, he is the real deal.

...by the way, I'm not sure he will come up next week anyway. Pulled up rubbing the leg in the 3rd I think, interesting to know how he was when cooled down.

Don't agree with your call on Daisy, he's one of the hardest working players on ground, a real gut runner, Collingwood are really missing his workrate back and forward, something Roos loves. Ankle???

He would be good for brackets of games throughout the season (16 - 17 games).... play him in the Big Games,,,, where the kids we're blooding, play in easier games...

..... when Chappy is resting for a couple of weeks at a time, Play him @ Casey, where he continues to lead & teach our other kids... his attitudes are fantastic & we need some of that to rub off on our younger boys & throughout the Club.

I think we need playing Cultural leaders, elders... but only 2 of them. Chappy, or Jude Bolton, or SThompson.

If people looked at our list they would notice we have prescious little strong Culture & leadership in anyone above 26 yrs of age. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tp-melbourne-demons?year=2013&sby=15

no problem with the daisy workrate since his early days & being a look at me selfish type... but how long can he stay committed to team???

there is something I just don't trust about the away Daisy has done things, off field over the last couple of contracts.

I smell a rat.

Would have him in a heartbeat. Was sensational last night. And was the bloke who originally said that the hawks would never beat geelong again (at least while he was there).

What a leader for our kids to learn from.

Agreed, an absolute must

Paul Chapman is 31.

If Geelong don't want him could we give him a year or two?

Just say to him "See all those little Midfielders? Dont let them get hurt"

Why don't we get Pickett back, even scarier and still only 36.

Did you see him play last night? He may be getting to the end but I think it's stupid to just dismiss the notion that he can contribute something in 2014 outright.

Doc, he was hardly on the park this year.

An injury plagued season but hasn't played less than 19 senior games a year for the preceding decade.

Would be shocked if he isn't either re-signed or picked up by a genuine flag contender for next year. A star and a match winner - but we'd have to offer two or three years on very good money to trump that which I don't think can be justified.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
