It's fair to ask questions.

1. He's been out a while, but he was in for nearly 30 years. If anyone watches his analysis during OTC you'd note that he has one of the sharpest footy minds in the game - still. The way he exposed North as being a "1 metre" team was fantastic.

2. In your opinion. It's easy to use examples when you're making a point, so I think it's pretty obvious why he refers back to them. I'm sure Ross Lyon was obsessed with the Saints, but what does that matter to Freo ? Ron Barassi grew up at the MFC, but it didn't stop him winning two flags at Carlton. It's a pretty silly point really.

3. He's stated that he won't do it for the money and he strikes me as an honourable person. I have no reason to call into question his motives. I take him at face value.

4. In 2002 Sydney won 3 of their first 12 games. Roos took over and there was an immediate lift and they won 6 of their last 10. They made top 4 the following year. Roos has always been a brilliant communicator and his teams have always responded.

5. One flag in 8 years ? Nothing to complain about. They're not easy to win and I doubt anyone would look back at his Sydney teams and say they were a superteam. They're not talked about with those accolades. In reality, Roos got the most from the talent at his disposal. And he was within one kick of another.

6. Would Lyon and Longmire be the coaches they are today if they hadn't developed under Roos ? i think it's far more likely that the assistants learned off the head coach than the other way around. Logic tells me that.

I am not as pro-Roos as the majority on Demonland and I am a bit concerned about the money he will cost. In saying that, the promotional value of someone like Roos could, in part at least, pay for itself. I would also probably prefer a coach that has a more attacking mindset.

I see one of the key benefits of Roos being that the AFL wants him to do it and that he wont do it if he thinks there is a good chance of failure, so he might be able to leverage that into a priority pick #1. Getting a name like Roos will also help us retain and attract players.

The case against Roos, if there is a logical one is abit irrelevant, we tabled an offer of 1.5 mil or whatever for five years for the guy, we're obviously very keen, he met the leadership group, declared public interest, has refused to close the door on us all year so he is clearly interested

i think it's going to happen either way, and i personally am thrilled and congratulate the MFC for going out, targeting the best coach on the market and getting their man.

I think it's realistic to expect 40,000 members if Roos signs on. He will also be the catalyst for increased sponsorship and match attendance, I think his salary will be well and truly covered.

Yes, I don't think people realise how much money is lost/generated with a change in members/change in attendance of that magnitude.

The issue with his salary is purely a superficial one concerning the AFL's help covering the immediate payout of Neeld and Schwab, and the sense of unfairness that we are attracting a coach of Roos' calibre with a figure similar to the AFL's payout.

But I think that is a specious argument from people who don't like the fact that welfare recipients are suddenly seeking things outside of what we 'deserve.'

No price, it is the be all and end all of the football department, and i believe we will be a very strong club again under paul, Paul Roos is the future of this club now, anyone else and we lose more talent, we continue to go backwards, geez imagine demonland if we hired an untried coach and Jesse Hogan left because he didn't like the direction of the club.

I didn't think we'd get Paul Roos, Peter Jackson or Mitch Clark. So I'm not giving up just yet on getting Ross Lyon and John Longmire as Roos' assistants either.

The simple recipe is based on how much genuine enthusiasm Roos has to take on a battling club.

Coached 202 games at Sydney, for 16 finals matches, winning 9 finals, one premiership. It's a better record than any other available coach, and sure beats the hell out of our last seven years.

With Roos grounding and the terrific culture established, the Swans under Longmire have since finished 7th, Premiers and (this year so far) 4th.

Who would I choose, Roos, Neeld or Bailey.... hmmmm. A premiership coach is a premiership coach. Who do you think Longmire and Lyon learnt their trade off?

I can understand some of your points, however the PROS vastly outweigh the CONS.

Roos will make players from other clubs want to come to the MFC, he will covert supporters into members (more memberships), and build a stronger culture - making players want to do their part for the team, and make them want to stay at the MFC when out of contract.

Everyone talks of Ross Lyon as a messiah but how many premierships has he won?

I am sure that tactically there are other coaches out there that are as good, maybe better than Roos at half the salary.

Roos record is up there with the best of them but it's not as much his game day tactics, win/loss record etc. that we need him at the club. Its everything else he will bring that is of the most importance. (Culture, unity, belief etc.)

Hopefully the rest will follow.

IMO, the OP is building a list of posters who will be reminded about this thread if things go south under Roos and they attack him or the club.

For the record, IMO Roos = Choco = Eade. I would hire whichever one was the most interested in coaching the MFC and was the most driven to reach the ultimate success.

Choco had a wonderful period of sucess at Port, without the full support of the club and sponsors.

Eade was sucessful (although no flags) at WB , a club with skinny resources like us.

If we get Roos, and he comes with some key personal from Sydney (I heard a development guy and Kenellay could be part of it) then I will be happy, but will remember it comes with no gaurantees of success.

I am having a holiday from this site until about February next year.. It's pathetic negative unbelievable Shyte like this post that forces the break .. Maybe when I return this club will have a better list, a new experienced (preferably Paul Roos) coach and less contributors like the old dyed in the wool pessimists.. Fresh Culture and a new beginning please.. No more of the glass half empty crap. .. Have a good Christmas and join the more positive members who wish to go forward with a positive view of the future..As this site is an unofficial site of the MFC, let's start a new Unofficial site of the MFC but a more happy and less depressing one.. Just plain stupid, clearly didn't watch Roosy go out of his way to declare interest publicly, or hear about when he met with out leadership group or when he met with PJ and powerbrokers at the G, orr... or when he entered contract negotiations last thursday....
