All smiles before the verdict,. Can only imagine the conversation after the verdict. A bit like the Mayor of Hiroshima....

It's crazy, but I think they'll appeal.

I am in blood stepped in so far that should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o'er. - Macbeth.

I would not like to be in the gun of McDevitt

ASADA released a statement shortly after the judgment, saying the authority's new CEO, Ben McDevitt, felt validated and that the agency was "steadfastly ... committed" to unearthing the truth of what occurred at Essendon.

"Today's judgment vindicates Mr McDevitt's strong belief that the Act always contemplated ASADA working with sports to uphold clean competition.

"The only way to stay ahead of sophisticated doping regimes is to partner with sports; not exclude them from the process," the statement said.

"Three months ago ASADA CEO Ben McDevitt put formal allegations of possible anti-doping rule violations to 34 current and former Essendon players. These players still have a case to answer under the World Anti-Doping Code and Australia's National Anti-Doping scheme.

"Our aim has always been to expose what happened at Essendon in 2012 and we steadfastly remain committed to this."

To be fair... after seeing how Ziggy has handled the NBN stuff, I struggle to pay him much heed!

to be fair....i can't see how your comment is relevant to mine

The guy on the right is smiling because he knows he's getting paid either way..

He may also know they will appeal and more money is on the way.

Probably wondering which model Aston he will buy.

Love the headlines on the EFC site.

Goodwin departs Dons

Pair provide potent partnership about 2 forwards

Bomber Shop 25% off

Crighton medal contenders

Young Dons emerge in defence.

Not a word about the most important thing to happen at the club in years.

Delusional? you bet.

To be fair, they need time for creative spin doctoring to present this as another win for Essendon.

That is going to take a little time

Topo bad bomberblitz has a serious case of the Pravdas.

No court result threads thanks boys. Jeez they're weak when it doesn't go their way.

Yep.

I believe they manually review all applications too, so you can't just go create an account and go watch the carnage :(

EFC and Hird may appeal but there is a good chance players are over it and will do a deal with ASADA. Especially those no longer at Essendon or about to leave. Receiving clubs will probably accept a player who has a short suspension...Sydney did with Tippett who got preseason and half the playing season.

Players owe Hird/EFC Nothing. Time for them to look after themselves!

I liked this comment from a reader on the age:

Yes they waste money on court cases and they expect fans to pitch in 5 million for the new training facility whilst they pay Hird 700k and an all expenses paid trip to France...trust me there are a lot of disgruntled supporters out there.

How much of the legal fees will Little be paying out of his own pocket? His net worth is listed in the region of $880 million...

He didn't make his fortune by being free and easy with his own cash...

He didn't make his fortune by being free and easy with his own cash...

If he is not dipping into his own sky rocket for a fair amount of this then he needs to go. He is playing a game with the supporters money and is losing big time.

I guess Hird might put plans to sue ASADA and the AFL on hold for a while.

AD must be having a quiet chuckle i would have thought.

Next. I can't see how the AFL can avoid giving them severe sanctions for running a drug cheating regime.

Little made sure that he protected what was left of Hird's reputation by insisting in the settlement last year that it expressly said there was no suggestion of drug cheating and the sanctions were expressly only for poor governance. Can't possibly see how the AFL can avoid giving them very serious sanctions otherwise the reputation of the AFL as a sport will be more damaged than anything that is going to happen to Essendon.

This case has set another unrelated but incredibly significant precedent. The Judge referred to the fact the players had entered into binding contracts with the AFL to be investigated and give up their right to avoid self incrimination and that contractual agreement is binding. This is the first time these contracts have ever been commented on in the Courts. The significance of this is that the court is saying the Clubs and Players contractual obligations with the League are binding. These contracts include the salary cap and the draft. In the past there have been rumours of threats by Eddie No Where that if he didn't get what he wanted he would get the salary cap etc set aside for being anti competitive but the Court is saying if you sign a contract to be part of the AFL it is binding. People have often wondered what would happen if a player or Club took it to court. Well here is the answer.

little said they will consider whether to appeal after they have read tania's notes

They have already been dealt with by the AFL. This is about ASADA.

Because I am a notorious sticky-beak I set up an account on bomberblitz when this all started. So I can see into the inner sanctum.

I've rarely logged on, but did today. There is a mixture of views there ranging from Middleton J votes Labor (!) and it's all a plot to I'm sick of this, respond to ASADA and take the punishment if any. Mostly 'keep fighting' type posts.

But I've yet to see anyone calling for Little's head and a clean sweep of the club. (If it was demonland, they'd be calls for that on a weekly basis).

Admittedly I haven't the stomach to trawl through much of what is posted there so maybe someone has suggest Little dip into his private fortune and pay all the bills as well as Hird's salary.

Edit: Oh, they seem to have it in for Cartlon. Has Carltank said something today about it?

It's the time of the year. They haven't forgiven Carlton for beating them in the 1999 Preliminary Final.

How much of the legal fees will Little be paying out of his own pocket? His net worth is listed in the region of $880 million...

I'd suggest they need new lawyers as well. Their advice has been pretty shoddy.

Its a comprehensive defeat by my reading. No way back from that. (tee hee)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
