Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

I heard (I don't believe it) that Essendon will be banned from the AFL competition for 1 year. It was speculated that a composite team from Tasmania would take their place. I think this fanciful but he did have a compelling argument and some WADA knowledge. WOW!

Yes the AFL will gladly jeopardise its TV rights and other key supplier and stakeholder relationships by banning a whole club. Where do people dream up such fluff?? Hardly compelling and the WADA knowledge does not help here.

Remaining Essendon players plus 1 50 + game player from each of the other clubs. Remember Ted Fidge? I would offer Byrnes. NOTE:-This is pure speculation.

What has been lost in all of this is the appalling abuse of process by the Minister and Government in announcing the "darkest day " without having done the investigation or their legislative homework.

I believe they should have not made the announcement until they were sure of the details and trail of evidence-

Smacks of political opportunism as usual. What can you expect of modern political life?

Everybody wants to be seeming to do something but not doing anything. It is just appalling. I feel sorry for the reputations that have been damaged and I am sure that this will go nowhere, just die slowly when something more "Interesting and stimulating" comes along to be played with like a Sherrin. This interference and game playing has destroyed the process and ensured that no one will be charged nor any sanctions imposed except for the sanctions like what you get for tanking when the AFL denied any tanking The whole thing is just a joke

I'm not entirely doubting what you say may be true, but in what capacity would you be getting information from "legal sources and federal bureaucracy"?

You should be doubting. Caveat emptor on that posters rants wnd sources. A mixture of the no kidding bleedin obvious and stuff that lacks validity.

I prefaced the fluff with (I don't believe it) The penalty on the club was a WADA penalty as it was suggested to me. The AFL would have to comply. Hence the Tassie beat up story to fill the Essendon gap.

I agree?? I think.

Is this a forum?

What do we do on forums?

Did I suggest that I agreed with the views?

It was light hearted gossip, who would think that you might find that on a fan forum?

Maybe the Don's penalty should be to play 8 games in Tassie for ten years, and a name change to the "Tassie Bombers" with a logo of a bomber dropping it's load on the map of tasmania!

This is entirely possible. Same rules that have lead cycling teams to be thrown off the world tour.

11.2 Consequences for Team Sports

If more than two members of a team in a Team Sport

are found to have committed an anti-doping rule

violation during an Event Period, the ruling body of the

Event shall impose an appropriate sanction on the

team (e.g., loss of points, Disqualification from a

Competition or Event, or other sanction) in addition to

any Consequences imposed upon the individual

Athletes committing the anti-doping rule violation

all over red rover......woof !!

Now I await the someone who will counter with...ahh but....the AFL already stripped them of points for 2013.

my counter-counter is that that was NOT for any antipdoping offence per se. Once WADA/SADA start pinging players then theres a NEW felony to punish.

My professional network, dating back to university, and the network i have built up in the business world where i have had extensive interaction with federal and state governments, strangely enough many seem to be interested in AFL.

As I said earlier, WADA knowledge. 1 year ban. A fill in team for 1 year. It is possible. The AFL would have no say in penalty.

Woof is right.

Does that mean that Richmond can finish 8th again?

This is rumour not fact 360 Robbo.

that is not quite true technically

asada don't actually give the penalties, they leave it up to the sports body in question

in practice though the sports body generally adopt the standard wada/asada penalties

this I wonder, if its a lot to do with Demitriou's retirement, & if he'll do the dirty work on all the scum, on his way out the door. then fight from a distance against any retaliation from the have you heard backers.

Oh i heard all this stuff before Ad';s retirement announcement. I think the Essendon situation has hastened his exit but that is all. AD in my view still is trying to sort through all this in the best interests of the Game. It is Hird (egged-on by his lawyer wife) who has made this outcome so much worse than it need be, not least for Hird himself. She may be a good lawyer, but she has no idea of how to play the political game, and no idea about how to get the best outcome for her husband. By her actions, she has condemned him to obscurity. He will never work again in the AFL industry. Edited by Dees2014

not sure but i seem to remember so.....and then wada come into it with a big stick

That is my understanding too. So effectively they are WADA penalties not the AFL's but the AFL carries them out or else. Sorry I took the short cut with "The AFL would have no say in penalty". Perhaps I should have said " the AFL would have little say in the penalties"

WADA/ASADA are the judiciary

the AFL , the executioner

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
