(I can't get no) Satisfaction, was written for us.

Recorded in 1965...say no more.

I seem to recall Beck penning a tune for us more recently (about 1993, I think).

I have a lot of respect for Mike Brady. 'Up there Cazaly' and 'One day in September' are great historical footy songs.

He also released an album in the early '80's called Hall of Fame: The Songs of Football's Greatest Sons that had songs about players such as John Nicholls, Polly Farmer, Peter Hudson, EJ and Ron Barassi.

Was the soundtrack to my childhood and I still remember many of them by heart.

It's a grand old flag, it's a high-flying flag

It's the emblem for me and for you

It's the emblem of the team we love

The team of the red and the blue

Every heart beats true, for the red and the blue

As we sing this song to you

(what do we sing)

Should old acquaintance be forgot

Keep your eye on the red and the blue

Oh, the team played fine in the year Thirty-Nine,

We're the Demons that no one can lick, lick, lick

And you'll find us there at the final bell

With the spirit of Twenty-Six, Six, Six

Every heart beats true, for the red and the blue

As we sing this song to you

(what do we sing)

Should old acquaintance be forgot

Keep your eye on the red and the blue

I only wish that the AFL would play both verses. Most Dees supporters have never heard the second verse sung and the younger generation can barely remember the first verse, so rarely is it sung these days!

PS I heard Mike's song today and like it [nothing wrong with having two Club songs just in case in a few years we get sick of hearing the same one sung week after week]!

how does our song go again?

I've forgotten it.

The song formerly known as "Grand Old Flag".

It's now just called "Flag".

Yeah, it must really annoy the sound people at the ground when we win and they have to dust off the old phonograph in order to blast out our club song.

Where does it fit in if it doesn't replace Grand Old Flag?

This will be used in replacement of Stilnox so the players will get a good nights rest before a game.

Have you heard Richmond's?

Spot on Redleg it wins by a country Mile or a city one for that matter.

I am also partial to Hawthorn and Carlton as well.

Obviously I like A Grand old Flag but there are a few as good IMO.

Have had a listen.. Still unsure as to where its supposed to fit into the fabric of things. Beer and Pie nights perhaps ??

Seriously. We have "the Flag" its the song everyone associates with us.

It ( Brady's ) might sound good as background to a doco or something.

Thanks all the same Mike

Lyrics (from what I could hear)

Get Out and Have a Go

by Mike Brady

We've known those mighty moments,
those glory days of old
We have had our share of champions,
who never left the fold
When a hundred thousand hearts beat true
And passion is a given
Get out there you Melbourne boys
And show 'em that your driven
And never forget, the pride within these halls
And never take for granted, the legends on these walls
Dee's that live forever, in this mighty game we play
Demons that have left a mark, I wonder what they'd say
What would Jimmy say?
What would Barrassi say?
What would Robbie say?
What would Schwarta say?
What would Smithy say?
He was always in the know
He'd say "Get out there you Demons,
Get out and have a go"
The red and blue's a symbol,
it's a part of what we are
We've worn since we started,
and it's known near and far
When a hundred thousand voices
Echo loud across the G
They're telling you to stand up
Be what you can be
And never forget, the deeds that have been done
And never take for granted, the flags that were hard won
Those names will live forever, even bolder than today
Those mighty Demon legends, now I'd wonder what they'd say
What would Garry say?
What would Tassie say?
What would Cracker say?
What would Neitza say?
What would Barrassi say?
Purposely and slow
He'd say "Get out there you Demons"
"Get out and have a go"
So what would we all say?
Every one of us that cares
Every heart thats beating
Every dream that dares
We shout it all together, so everybody knows
We'd say "Get out there you Demons"
"Get out and have a go"
We'd say "Get out there you Demons
Get out and have a go"

Heard it, hate it. Patronising and insulting

Insulting? How on earth do you come up with that?

I don't think it really needs a place to fit BB. Just another classic Mike Brady feel good song that was written for the MFC. Found it to be quite a proud little moment.

It is patronising. Not by design but because of where we are.

As if we need a song to tell us we used to be good but now we're crap, so go out and try harder? Worse idea than any of the club history stuff that had been done over the past 5 years. At least that had a purpose.

Our song is the only thing going for us atm, by far the best song in the league.

Far from the best in the league.

Said it in another thread a while back - "It's A Grand Old Flag" is the only club song in the league that doesn't say the team's name or their nickname. Useless information, but would love to know why this is so!

I doubt that Mike Brady will win an award for this song, but it is great to have something penned about us that is positive and reflects upon our 'good times'.

The lyrics are nostalgic and the tune is 'catchy'.

As an 'oldie' who has seen all of those with the exception of Norm Smith play, I must confess to a 'lump' in the throat and moisture in the eyes.

I felt proud to be a Demons fan, which, I must confess, I find hard to admit in recent years.

I hope that supporters of the Demons will embrace the song as something to positively stir our emotions in what is a bleak time for the club.

When the tune to "You're a Grand Old Flag" was appropriated for club use Fuchsias didn't fit well (but the rest was easy):

That's the only thing I got out of this song. I cannot see how it is insulting the club. I mean, it's no big secret the club is in the ruts, why hide from it? Be proud of the history, the hard fought players and rejoice the new era.

Well picked up BB. Someone forgot about the 2nd verse :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
