MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

Having said that, I would have liked to see Strauss played more as a winger. He has a nice turn of speed and is one that could actually deliver it to our forwards lace out.

Agree. Offensively he would be quite damaging. For so long we have complained about delivery to our forwards. Strauss certainly would be a piece of that puzzle.

I think I would prefer Pederson on Petrie and Frawley on tarrant so he can get a bit of run forward and out of defence. I'm pretty sure we got Pederson and gillies to help defend the 'gorilla' forwards. I don't think Davis or Strauss would have much hope in Demon hell of matching up on Petrie.

I consider them a top 6 team, i know their ladder position doesn't reflect that but they lose close ones far too much, the quality is there

They r better than their ladder position but I take much pleasure watching Scott sulk and squirm in the after match press conferences, can't stand that plick or is dopey brother.

Frawley has to take the best, in this case Petrie. We don't have the luxury to use Frawley as an attacking back and Pederson would get taken apart by Petrie. Davis would have been a good match for either Tarrant or Black but now Pederson will get one and Dunn the other.

Don't be surprised if we see this set up:

Petrie - McDonald

Tarrant - Pedersen

Black - Dunn

Thomas - Frawley

I certainly think Frawley will go to Petrie but I worry that Thomas is the most dangerous forward at the roos and neither McDonald, Dunn nor Terlich are capable opponents.

Yep, you could be right with this. I forgot about McDonald, Frawley may well go to Thomas, I'm not sure any of the others will have the footy smarts to go with him.

I like it master. Garland probably would have taken Thomas. I think we can stretch their defence if we set up 1 on 1, but the main danger is their midfield. If its not Harvey, it's cunnington, or ziebell, or swallow. I'd like to see terlich run on ziebell and try to limit him. He is a very damaging player, and terlich has the aggression and doggedness to go with him.

Trouble being that he needs to get the pill enough to be able to display his "elite disposal" to advantage.

Apparently Terlich late out with a quad

I'm not super disappointed with that, to be honest. In my opinion, his recent form warrants being dropped anyway. He's had a stand out year, but he has obviously been tiring over the last few weeks.

The lack of changes each week is interesting. While there are a number of players playing for Casey that I would like to see getting a game, Craig is making it clear that if you want to make the Melbourne team you need to really perform at Casey.

We have become used to seeing three, four, five or six changes each week (the fact that the team is playing better recently helps), it is nice to see some consistency in the side.

My sense is that the lack of changes is more to do with Craig believing that sides need consistency than making a statement about the need for Casey players needing to earn their spot. In any year the sides that do best are the ones with the least changes. look at West Coast, a good side that due to injury has just not been able to settle. The dees have also suffered from injury this year but Neeld took a yo yo approach to selection which hurt the side. Instructive that Craig has kept Byrens in recent week and didn't drop the toump. Both would have been dropped by Neeld. Well played Craigy

I know you don't like him but his ability to straighten up and attack with the ball instead of slowing down play and going wide would've been very useful at Etihad. Much more useful than Nicholson's turnovers.

Actually, I love him; he's running 3rd in my B+F predictions. Nevertheless, his defensive weaknesses have started to hurt us more than his offensive flair helps us.

Dunn on Black and Pedo on Tarrant are worrying match ups. To put it mildly. We will really miss Garlo this week.

He's definitively dipped the past few weeks. His numbers are down and frankly he's been unaccountable in defence. A break is a good thing.

Dunn or Pedersen in the team regardless of who they are playing on is the problem! Unfortunately Garland can only take one of their spots!

Like Luke Hodge getting towelled up by Essendon ruckman it's the midfield match up that is the biggest battle and the one we probably wont win.

So if Terlich is out would that bring Nicholson back in. The other option is Tapscott but he hasn't played back all year. If Nicholson does come in, I would have thought he'd be the best candidate to take Harvey. At least he can match him for strength and pace.

Worst post of the year, not becuase Dunn is good but becuase Pedersen is unfit, lazy and stupid.

He speaks well of you [even though you cannot spell]!

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
