West Coast looking for new coach?

Featured Replies

Just heard rumour that Worsfold has been sacked

Any body able to confirm

Might take one possible coach out of the picture

Last I'd heard, he was told they would re-sign him if he wanted to coach next year... And he hasn't decided yet. More likely he has said he doesn't want to coach next year

I've not heard anything over here.

I don’t think Woosha would be sacked either. He'd "retire effective immediately” :P

if roos go to west c then it will be for the money, he will get 1.5 a year insead of 1 mill at the dees, what he does not know is that perth is more expensesive then sydney to live, but so much roos saying its not about the money, because he is going for the bigger money at west c

why wouldn't he know? Is it a Demonland secret? ?

So you managed to go from IF Roos goes to West Coast, to saying he IS going because of the bigger money... all in one sentence (I think)?

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to sack your premiership coach then negotiate with your own wallet to sign another premiership coach in Roos? One day Melbourne....one day.

Worsfold will not be sacked, the decision whether to continue is solely his without any input from their board. I have spoken to a very close friend of Woosha's (ex-premiership player) who didn't ask directly but his gut feel is Woosha will continue and has been through a difficult personal time this season.

It's just a gut feel on his behalf, he may be wrong but he would know him better than most.

Agree.

There is no way in the world Woosha would be sacked by the Eagles.

If they wanted him gone, he would retire or move on, but it would never be a sacking.

He's not getting sacked.

I find the idea of sacking premiership coaches particularly arrogant. I can understand resigning, or moving on, but at least give the individual -- someone that brought your club a flag -- the opportunity to step down rather than sack him.

And we sacked one after six.

forced resignation or sacking = same end result

so the question remains.....does wc want a new coach next year?

Does Worsfold want to coach next year is the other question. It's a massive job especially in the fishbowl in Perth. He shouldn't need the money. They've got Glass, Cox, Embley and Kerr about to finish up and a promising group coming through that isn't quite good enough yet but seems to be on the right track.

Seems the perfect time to hand over the reigns and if I was them I'd go with Scotty Burns and not even worry about Roos.

You say that like the people in charge of that decision aren't all dead now.

They could do a Collingwood to Malthouse job on him. Move him into admin.

If true, surely Scott Burns would be front runner?

I would think Peter Sumich would be ahead of Scott Burns

Roos is probably target #1 though

I know an experienced coach who might be able to get them fit, give them a game plan and make them the hardest to play against if that sounds attractive.

Is the ASADA WADA etc nosing about effecting this all in any way?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
