Cameron Ling, anyone?

Recommended Posts

Got quite excited to see Ling walking away from the Aami Center and past training. Even more so when he walked around the oval and watched training from near Richmond station end.

Went and got a pic with him to make her Geelong relos jealous and couldn't help myself throwing in line about how this will send rumour mill into overdrive, he commented how he has recently started doing some work with Jack Trengove and Jack had asked him to come along to check out training. Spoke very highly of Jack.

Would love to see him at the club a lot more!

I'm loving the fact that we are hearing more and more reports about our players seeking out or being connected with established AFL stars of the past and current day. Trengove speaking to Ling is great.

Watts speaking to Jobe Watson is great - and is it just me or has Watts form improved since we heard news of this.

I'm not sure if this is being initiated by the club or the players themselves, but it is a great sign of the players being willing to learn and develop, even to the extent of finding good people outside of the club to help them along the way.

Despite the manner of the loss against Essendon one great thing I noticed after the game was how Brendan Goddard went straight over to Watts and seemed to have a good conversation, not just a short sharp "bad luck" or "good game" comment. It's just a very positive thing to see amongst all the other crap we read about.

It's really good that the players that are being called out to talk and mentor are very good players and in the instance of Ling, very successful. We probably couldn't ask for better role models for our young midfielders.

I just hope Lingy doesn't turn into another Garry Lyon and loses touch with footy reality by staying too long in the media.

Ling sounds like a fantastic communicator and appears to have a lot to offer in a coaching capacity. I'd have him at the club in a heart-beat.

I noticed this as well and thought it was really good to see.

That's called buttering Watts up for a defection to Essendon in the near future.

He'd be a no-brain target - all the tools to succeed, just poorly developed, looking for support and hopefully you can get him on the cheap.

Don't be too excited about Goddard rushing to pat him on the back.

Almost couldn't think of a better player for Trenners to be talking with at the moment, with all the talk about how he's lost so much of his pace. Considering Lingy wasn't the fastest player going around but was still a great player/captain. Good on him for going out of his way to help a young and upcoming captain of the game. Hopefully see's a bit of himself in young Jack.

Lingy was giving nothing away, though I tried. Asked straight out whether Jack had OP and if not what has happened to the pace that he had in his first two years and is no longer visible. Got nothing...

Not really, was there whole time once he set up shop, I went and said hi to him, was very friendly

Well there you go I was there for the first 30 minutes or so and I didn't see Lingy over in the bushes. I was basking in the incredible balmy weather riding my bike back home from the city. While I was waiting for training I rode up to the Collingwood setup and it is fantastic, so open with a running track on the outside of the training oval. I can report to the Victorian Goverment that funded Eddies vision of a training facility that is safe for women, that there was one women running around the track. Who knows how many women were running around the tan where there must be any number of deviants just waiting to jump on them. Thank God for Eddie and the Goverments funding of the Lexsus Centre.

They were questioning lingy about coaching at the mfc on one of the footy shows. Said he would be more then happy to listen to what the mfc have to say and would definetely consider it. Said nothing had been said yet.

deeluded deeluded deeluded.....names like Ling and Knights send a shudder through me. Am still confident Dees can crack a Flag in my lifetime and hopefully be a final 8 prospect by 2015. Sylvia, Hogan, Clark/Dawes, Toumpass, Viney, Watts, Blease, Gawn, taggert, Clisby, Frawley, Howe, Terlich, the Jones boys,Trengrove, Grimes are all class players and still developing. Two more high high draft picks, a quality EXPERIENCED Coach and we're on our way to a flag in 2016 or 2017.

Thaipantsman call choose someone firstly who wants to Coach MFC not just for $. My choice at this early stage in no particular order are Mark Williams, Rodney Rocket Eade or Bomber T if h we can afford him.

Williams at 54 would be good. Please don't entertain the thought of Knights, Ling or any other "thinkers".

I don't think anyone is calling for Ling as senior coach but as part of the FD he will be a great pickup.

He's not ready IMO to be a senior coach, who is straight out of footy? But could become one.

.... assistant of some kind, right hand man? but I'd prefer he be the right hand man, & coach the VFL side, as his priorities in his first season. Being the No 1 assistant, when free from the Scorps time schedule...

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
