Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I see where you're coming from mjt.

Hasn't been himself and looking at the nature of the injury, did they rush him back too soon?

I fear that he may have suffered a relapse? Anyone in the medical/physio field out there that can chat about this?

Why would anyone trade for Sellar now, when they didn't 2 years ago?

Delist: Davey, Nicholson, Dunn, Rodan, Gillies, Spencer, Jetta, MacDonald, Strauss, Sellar, Bail, Byrnes.

I don't care if they are contracted.

Watts for Taylor Adams.

Couldn't care less about losing Sylvia.

Draft mids, mids and more mids, then two small forwards and a ruckman.

Don't agree with Strauss and Sylvia.

Everyone seems to hate Sylvia and say that he is inconsistent but he is our second best mid (behind Jones) and he has been consistently good this year. We desperatly need mids and leaders so can't afford to lose him.

How can you say you couldn't care less if we will lose a big asset and in return get a crappy compensation pick - thats a net loss!

  • Jesus chose 12 followers or disciples, most of them were fishermen but Matthew was a toll collector, going by that I suggest we recruit players with a nautical theme in mind and someone who works for either city link or the tax office, success assured

So, $6 mil over 5 years is today's equivalent of 30 pieces of silver?

Dave Misson said on the website that they're very happy with how it looks. It's just because of how much of an unusual injury it is that they want to give Mitch as much time as he needs.

Mjt is probably spot on in that he wont be back this year, but I see no reason why Mitch wont be back ready to fire at the start of 2014 along with Dawes and Hogan!

And please can I see Taggert against the Saints. How long is it going to take? It seems like Senior selection is based purely on draft order and not on what's being shown at VFL level. Or have I missed something?

Interesting you would make that call after he has had a quiet game. Why elevate players when they aren't getting the pill at VFL level.

Taggert looks good but wait till he hits some form at least. Fitzy got in the best multiple time and is just holding his head above water at present.

You spoke to a couple of people who help out over the summer, and they told you, at a VFL game, what is going on currently in an AFL side.

Right.

Though I am sceptical of your 'source', you're probably right in that Clark mightn't play again in 2013. The way Misson phrased things this morning hinted at that:

“When he’s going to be back, we’re not 100 per cent sure, but we’re conscious that this is really a career defining rehab for Mitch,” he said.

“We can’t put a time on when he’ll be back, but we’re really confident that he’s going to overcome this injury and be back to full capacity.

Hardly positive to say we're confident he'll overcome it.

His 'sauce' seems less than watertight. Obviously it's a big period for Clark and his injury management.

They work for Melbourne over the summer not Casey , just passing on what I was told.

If we are serious we need to get rid of the NQR players and try to trade for some quality. Why would you swap the two best players in the VFL for a couple others from the same comp who are not even as good? If we get rid of Magner and Couch then for Christ's sake let's give up on this crap idea of so called Moneyball players.

We will have some early picks available so if we want to get a good player we are going to have to coax him across and offer up an incentive to his club to trade him. If we start picking up second rate players from minor comps we might as well fold the tent.

All three of these I'd say are very different players to Magner and Couch and would play different roles that none of Couch or Magner can fill so I don't think your argument really holds up.

Your suggestion about trading for established players makes sense, but that's only half the battle. The players need to want to come here which at the moment isn't very likely. We couldn't get Ball or Caddy to even talk to us! I reckon we'll be forced to go the way of the draft.

I cannot believe the number of Demonlanders ready to delist Davey. Davey is an icon on our list and if we hadn't had him around the goals this year our percentage would be even more lamentable than it is now!

We have Hogan, a probable PP pick, ND2, 21, 41, 61, and PSD2 to come on to the list and that is without possible FA acquisitions or trades.

That is 7 spots on the list before I get creative.

Davey will be considered for that initial 7 deletions. As will MacDonald, Sellar, Jetta, Davis, Gillies, Rodan, Nicho, and Bail.

That's footy.

Not having a dip at you, but I always take this info with a grain of salt.

Ball is pushing 30 and needed success quickly.

Caddy is having a great time playing for the ressies.

I see what you're saying JR, but it's a change on how things usd to be.

At the end of the 1997 season when we won the spoon we were able to convince Jeff White to come across and got an ageing Jaime Shanahan to come to us in the PSD for nothing. Just disapointing we weren't able to do the same with the two mentioned above.

We also gave up the number 2 draft pick for the rights to do it. Much like us getting Mitch Clark it might have been the deal that made sense more than the particular club.

Also it would've been nice if we avoided Shanahan and actually developed a young defender instead. My god he was bad with the ball and gave away a lot of free kicks defending.

Can someone clarify if Davey would be on the veterans list (or whatever its called) if he was to re-sign next season. I think we need to keep him at the moment as we are desperate for players with his foot skills who can play midfield and crumbing forward. It is a type of player we just do not have an automatic replacement for. His form the last few weeks has also shown that he is turning back the clock and is probably one of our most valuable players at the moment.

If he has finally gotten his body right, than we can still two decent years out of him I reckon.

I definitely think that if his form continues this year, a one year contract is on the cards. If the form continues he deserves it and we really benefit by having him around the club.

To use a line of reasoning you love to employ - is 61 better than Davey?

That argument, to me, rests in Davey's favour.

Big mistake to dlist davey if we do. Would be as bad as delisting junior.

If what they say about Clark then would he still be included in salary cap? How much was he again? 2.5million for 16 games? 150k per game? If so he has put Scully to shame in that department

Like it was his choice or the clubs choice if true, I'm talking about Clarke.

Robert Walls has run his eye over some of the list, and I reckon a lot of it he has pretty right:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/melbourne--who-should-stay-and-who-should-go-20130613-2o6u9.html

Rates McKenzie and Blease too highly and Sylvia, Davey and Byrnes too lowly, for mine.

Otherwise, a relatively fair analysis. Can hardly believe I just wrote that regarding a Robert Walls article.

I'm not an expert on the lisfranc, only a foot specialist would be but I do have a sports medicine background.

Misson's words are encouraging but the diagnosis before Mitchy's second bout of surgery that joint had moved struck me as a real set back. My understanding is that by releasing the screw Mitchy had insterted, the pressure on the joint is removed and hopefully it'll sit naturally having been repaired with surgery.

The lisfranc joint is the single most important joint in the foot because it stabalises the structure connecting the mid and fore foot. Without being stabilised, the running and walking gait is effected causing pain and often forcing those with the injury to transfer weight through the front of the foot/toes.

Not sure we have a coach available for giving jack watts his head as Robert calls for!

Should we consider doing a Parramatta and putting 6 or so guys on the fringe on notice that they are finished? Or is that just making things worse?

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
