Morning.

Sorry to bore you with something I should be able to research by myself, but I find it's often easier to get on here and ask some of you knowledgeable people.

My brother and I were discussing last night how much the benefits given to these expansion teams has hurt us ie did our demise unfortunately coincide with the period in which normally poor teams like ours would receive higher picks? I know we got Watts Scully etc before the expansion teams appearance (and yeah yeah, I know somebody will jump in and say we would have stuffed up the picks anyway)

Seems to me quite important I'm sick of people at work, in press (eg Emma Quayle) etc telling Me it's all our fault, we should be relocated, etc Maybe part of our problem is that we were shafted by the Afl - part of a perfect storm of events, other factors of which included the growing commercialization of the game, which means that the poorer teams become less attractive investments, and money equals on field success these days

Anyway, sorry if I should know all of this, but I'd appreciate some feedback

Cheers

No, our problems were of our own making. We should have been pushing top 4 this year and in contention over the next 2, we were supposed to be a step ahead but poor management at the club screwed us not the AFL.

Richmond are the club that's really been screwed, they were (believe it or not) a year or 2 behind us in the rebuild stakes and they have missed out on some crucial draft picks that would have given them the class to go all the way. As it sits now GC will pass them next year and GWS may not be far behind. The Tiges are experiencing a false dawn.

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says he's staggered by calls for struggling Melbourne to receive salary-cap concessions from the AFL.

Don't really mind what he said but I reckon he should leave that sort of stuff to Brayshaw or his CEO because they're the ones who determine club policies. Scott should be concentrating on getting his team to win the close ones.

Scott was spot on, salary cap concessions are a joke and will not help us anyway since we never even use 100% of the standard cap.

It's not just about salary cap - it's also the capacity to hold onto our required players and throw some coin at landing a big fish.

No disrespect to a good game by GWS but Geelong take a while to get started, their defence have some holes because of injuries and I think that they went in there arrogant - Scott's great spray set them right.

The one thing I'll say about the Scott brothers is that they're happy winners and sore losers. Don't mind blokes being angry about defeat ( a bit more from MFC would be great) but they are always up for a sulk IMO.

I like the fact that the guy came out and gave us some support and put the media hounds back in their kennels for a minute.

I think North have a few issues of their own so it was not something he really needed to say.

Gong forward ,we are in a better position than North,Saints and Dogs .

He didn't need to do it .

Maybe he was putting his CV in to Peter Jackson.

Did he Biffen? Ok, I take back everything I just wrote. I admire the Scott boys greatly.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
