Scotch College.

That may well be another party involved too. The bloke I've been told about is definitely an old Wesley boy.

Oh well whoopee doo, so we have posters on here maligning the Club's exclusivity and now we are celebrating which college a supposed backer is from

If Kenett was passionate about the Club, he would have bought a membership 5 years ago when we needed it, not a couple of weeks ago.

Which bit don't people get, he is angling for the AFL to parachute him in, so he doesn't have to face a vote.

Kennett did not turn Hawthorn around, Ian Dicker did

He is not what we need

hmmmm, i too wondered what the relevance was of what school someone attended 40-50 years ago

i thought we might have progressed beyond such eclectic social posturing in the 21st century

I do find it humurous though that kennett has indeed got a Dees membership and that some here havent. !!

in fact there are thousands out there who call themselves ardent Melbourne supporters but arent finacial. I wonder if theyre also belittling his efforts ?

just saying :)

nupp..

still works that way in many circles, has done for centuries and wont change any time soon.

I think you are on a bit of thin ice, the majority that post on here, as far as I know do more for the Club than just a membership, hence the reason they don't want somebody like Kennett in charge

Not sure if it was meant to be hunourous, coz if it is, didn't get it, read it as criticism of some posters, anyway back on topic, Kennett is only interested in Kennett, his ego needs his head in the spotlight/limelight/media.......sees MFC as a perfect vehicle to do it, would also allow him to pontificate on footy and settle a few personal scores

Then you didnt get it

and we move on.

Actually Jeff is far more interested in big pictures, but we can agree to disagree

Im not suggesting Jeff is the perfect fit. Im saying, have done all along he ought to be listened to , if and once he puts forward his team and vision.

i would say that of any aspirants too

I agree. If you criticise the club without a current membership you are a [censored].

If the AFL, through Jackson, see Kennett as an answer then it will happen over the next month.

As Jackson said - the Board will be renewed by casual vacancy appointments.

some may have different reasons for their actions... there may be some method in their approach?

I have reasons, in that I want the club to become an open club an inclusive club & to let lose the exclusiveness & open the gates let the people in... a building part of that is to build a social hub at the training complex, which would help to start to build our inner Melbourne support base...

And our Offices should be away from the 'G', & our Boardroom should be away from the 'G' as well.... this IMO, would help to get Footy loving & footy savvy directors, who are in it for the MFC only...

...and between the lines, it's not going to happen.

For those that want change it is happening, we don't need Jeff as a catalyst for that change. Let Jackson and the club get on with it now, Jeff is only a distraction.

Where was anyone celebrating? And I certainly didn't go to Wesley. Andrew asked for a clue. That was all I had.

Further, I'm on record as saying I don't think Kennett would be good for us right now.

You really need to start giving other posters a little bit more respect and actually read their posts instead of simply jumping down their throats every time you perceive something you don't like.

To be honest, I don't care if he supports Melbourne or not. I think what the club needs now are people at the top who are dispassionate and ruthless. It's been a boys club for too long.

I can see the argument that, Peter Jackson being somewhat "dispassionate", a committed Dees supporter in the President's role would be a good counterpoint.

But, if there isn't a better candidate than Jeff...

I would hope Kennett and Jackson today at least have a conversation so we the members can start to frame solid opinions on future boards.

I got your ironic point, but I think it is a pretty silly observation (which I guess you may have acknowledged with your 'just saying'). There will always be supporters of varying level of commitment and they will all have an opinion regardless of their level of financial support. So what.

But in case your remark was intended to be pro-Kennett in some way, the fact that he recently forked out the financial equivalent to him of me buying a coffee is nothing in his favour as a presidential candidate as I'm sure you would agree.

What precisely are the 'efforts' he has made anyway? I (as a paid-up member) won't belittle Kennett's efforts until I see him actually make some. Then I might become pro-Kennett, though as I've posted elsewhere, currently I feel he is not worth the risk (mergers etc).

Sue ...you too see to have missed the actual point..Its simply this.,.. Some talk...some do. He is actually a Doer.

Theres a hell of a lot of talking by many, Jeff included, but I dont hear much from any other ready to go Doers.

Im not particularly pro anyone.. I like you am yet to hear what they intend and how they might DO it.

I suspect we might start getting that info tomorrow.

His efforts.. you do read papers and watch telly I take it ? His prime effort is the simple act of putting his hand up and being prepared to back that . A secondary knock on effect, and possibly intentionally is to force the MFC into action . Whilst there will be things done it seems that much will be done to suit the particpants. For whatever ulterior motive Jeff also has the view that the members ought to be inclusive to this. I do to.

there a minor mention at this mornings presser that the members will indeed vote at some juncture, but Im not so sure

Im a keen observer of what people do...not just say. I await the next 'efforts' and actions...or as some would say, the next move in this game of Chess

Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion. I wonder if more people will buy into Melbourne situation ( literallY ) and exercise that opinion ?

Sue I always had the view that Jk's comments about mergers etc were aimed at stirring the MFC up and getting it moving.

In the absence of any alternative I am prepared to listen to his views.

I think he is sincere in his reasons for offering himself.

Does any Melbourne member know who the Melbourne members are that want Jeff Kennett as President? Why don't they show their faces?

The members as a group, 'own' the MFC. Not a select group of faceless individuals.

And as far as Jeff Kennett being 'sincere', the only thing sincere about him is his sincere desire to be on the front pages again.

I hope Ive got that wrong.

I cut my 2012 membership ticket in half, late last year, to send one half to the AFL, to protest the over Congestion of the recent AFL game,,, & the other to send to the media, Re the same Issue.

... then during this Pre Season, after our NAB Cup game @ Casey, I was so [censored] off with the Grand Stand being locked, without any prior notice of this, on a 100 degree day, I decided then, that I would Not renew this Year... & not until the club starts to care about its supporters once again....

If the club doesn't change away from being exclusive, & not building any supporter facilities @ our training centre, then I'll be waving goodbye after 55+ years of being a loyal supporter & servant...

As it is, I'm up the country now, & about to move even further away from any easy route to the city & the MCG... so it would be quite a journey to get to games anyhow, but this is what I believe... So that's my view on things Melbourne, & IMO, why we've lost our supporter base over the last 3 decades.

The club has totally patronised the northern stand, ignoring the grass roots supporter base, & killed itself slowly, from the turf up.

If you feel that way maybe you should turn to country footy, you talk about congestion yet you post 40 times a day, FMD, maybe if the AFL and the club grant your request you can ask them if they will build a bronze statue of yourself out the front of the G.

I think I got the point. I don't see any real effort so far, but then I only read the papers etc (yes I do). Maybe he has done something substantial behind the scenes. I have no way of knowing yet. I too want to see deeds not words.

As to the members voting at some stage which you express some doubt will happen: Of course we will vote at the next AGM where the Board that is being constructed behind the scenes will be up for endorsement or replacement.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
