Bomba proved his point to Hird after Yr 1.

Then they worked better together...

# Now if you bring in a New Coach & team,,, & the New Coach Identifies that a part of the problem is the 'old culture', & the old boys are unknowingly maintaining it, then what do you do, when the new coach tries to implement changes, & the "old Boy" doesn't agree, & causes frictions, & conflict amongst the inner sanctum?

What do you reckon would happen, & how would it appear 'Onfield'??? would it appear united or divided, & distracted onfield?

* you can't have half a coach, & someone else trying to steer the ship from behind them...

get out of the way, & let the chosen coach do what he knows.

.

I presume from this that you mean that Todd is actively "rocking the boat" from inside and behind the Coach's back.

I also presume that you have evidence of this because these are damning "facts" if true. This is also the type of rubbish that the written media feed off. So much so that a number of them could be charged with plagiarism. Without evidence of what you are saying I have to question why you would want to destabilize the Club any further. If you have evidence please precurse your comments as such.

I also have to query as to who of the "old culture" is actually at the club. None of the assistant coaches, development coaches etc except for Todd are from "the old boys". There is Robbo in Admin with Neita occasionally. I cant see that group having such a definitive effect on the Club. I doubt that Garry now would want to have any influence at the Club. What other "old boys" do you think are influencing the "culture" at the Club.

Todd was not interested in long term coaching at the Club in 2010 and is not interested now. He has his role which requires interaction with the Coach. I would be happy for him or Craig to come in as an interim coach if that should be required.

I have no problem with Todd Viney staying with the club.

He learnt from Whorethorn and was part of the coaching staff in 2008.

Viney is one who has to stay IMO. Is passionate, knows and cares about the club and knows footy.

That's not what CB said, though. He said that he's seen nothing from Toumpas to suggest he'll be better than Wines.

Whatever he's seen, that conclusion can't be drawn at this time. That has nothing to do with our previous drafting history and everything to do with MFCSS/myopia/stupidity.

I said "yet", there is still time but I won't hold my breath.

No, its a hypothetical of what may be, based on early season form & the rumors from the Pre Season of an argument. It Is, a piece to think about... to ponder, & for others to imagine the possibilities. no names & no pack-drill.

If We as a club bring someone in to head up a Job, a very big job, then that person must get all the support without any hindrance,,, unless its from the whole footy dept management unanimously...

I don't know what happened but in hindsight it is very possible, just as it did under Bailey as well. Now I am not comparing Bailey with any incumbent... but the possibility of this is something worth pondering.

This is not to destabilise anything, but rather, 'if it were to be true', then 'that' would be destabilising.

the truth is in there somewhere...

I'd suggest that all old boys take a back seat from the footy dept' & watch on from the periphery.

Any actual evidence jackaub?

I thought that was Caro's job....

Also, I recall Neeld saying on SEN that he would take anyone to court for what i assume would be slander (when they put to him that he and Rawlings had a physical confrontation).

Pederson for gysberts???? Pederson is a swingman with possible upside, & can be a strong mobile 3rd marking target. not seen his true game yet. gysberts didn't want to run or train...

Gillies for Rivers??? you not seeing straight. Gillies isn't a swap for Rivers. More likely, will be the replacement for JMac, this year.

Rivers replacement is Garland.. playing his role with Tommy Macdonald playing the 2nd defender. Watts playing the link man out. so Watts & Garland combining many of Rivs skills + some, kicking...

I understand the respective player types - that's obvious to my mother.

Just look at the pick exchanges/flows.

I forgot Martin by the way - don't think he was a big loss really, but can see the arguments as to keeping him.

Right. 'Yet'.

That's like a player going down with an ACL in their first game and then saying 'I haven't seen anything good from him yet'. Of course you haven't.

Toumpas has played four games. Any negative comment about him after four games is nothing short of ridiculous.

But if a coach identifies the issues, & obviously ongoing issues running thru the club for a long time, & he finds a player who is not being 'coachable' but rather may be fostering resistance to the new ways & influencing the opposite of what the coach is trying to implement, then what? some went.

..others who are beyond the age group, who'll be a part of the team in 2014-15... riv, green, Barts,

Last year it was uncertain if Davis would come on, or go off, & so far, is a bit better. also JMac, so gillies from a team like the Cats adds some cultural exchange, & another strong body who can immediately fill a role down back. now not all these mature players would have been expected to be all playing together in the one team at once, but added depth.

the injuries to Key personnel, have hurt the start of this year. & the form, & the perceptions.

... especially as Toumpas has played his first four games in one of the worst teams of all time.

The Viney's have Jack, Jimmy T & Jessie H living under their roof. Todd's position at the club is close to being untouchable in my opinion

The point was made about free agency with Maloney and Rivers going and inadequate compensation. Melbourne expected a much higher compensation pick but got a much later selection because they picked up Byrnes from Geelong.

On a like for like basis we got dudded and the only question I have is did we need to take Byrnes via free agency? He was out of contract and hardly likely to be snapped up by anyone else and maybe picked up late like Rodan was. I seem to remember that if they got the pick they expected they were going to give that to North for Pederson.

I've seen nothing from Toumpas at AFL level yet to suggest he will be better than Wines.

We ahd already picked up a 'hard nut' in and under midfileder from the same draft in Viney. Therefore, I can understand the recruiters thinking in recuiting a classy outside midfielder with this pick. Just because Toumpas is unlikely to win the Brownlow this year , doesn't mean he won't prove to be a quality draft selection.

Thanks for that Dee but I am wondering does that mean if David Schwarz put his hand up you would say no you are an "old boy". Just wondering.

not at all, absolutely not... we are short of the hard at it old players about the club, Esp' Todd & Schwarta...

But If there is any resistance to the methodology of the coach, & remember very few coaches are able to make the Big changes necessary at clubs with sour cultures,,, most just build over the top of the weakness...

but we have had failings going back far further than "other clubs"... & most people & coaches don't recognise these issues, or the issues would all be fixed by now.

when you get a Barrasi, Sheedy, or a Blight,,, who comes in & works @ the fabric as much, if not more than the list, you get fundamental change that'll last a long time, doing plenty of good.

any Good Coach can enter an already repaired Club, & perform well, & be popular.

For all the ridiculous tripe splashed at Caro over the past 12 months she has actually been pretty spot on with the issues at MFC.

No one liked what she had to say but she was brave enough to put cards on the table and say where MFC problems were. And sadly she has come up trumps. And her criticism of Schwab, McLardy and others are entirely justified and spot IMO.

And if she did print untruths those impacted should have taken her to Court and bring the "truth forward".

I noticed no one has.

At the commencement dinner the player sitting at our table said there was to be another cull at the end of the year; if this is common knowledge then how would the players on the cusp feel?

Who would know if they were safe or not?

Caro's article today says nothing.

Read it. Then stop and think, what have I learnt?

You've learnt nothing. Nothing at all.

There are a number of people on here who could actually learn quite a lot from her. They're often the ones slagging off at Caro without the smarts to realise she is right.

I think you really need help, if you think the above

Her journalism is mostly regurgitated rubbish.

Unfortunately in the crap modern world we live in , shitful journos like her can influence people, you being a case in point

No defense for Wilson.

She lost me forever because of her biased, scurrilous leading of the charge on us during the tanking debacle.

Where was her attack on the other alleged tankers?

We are still suffering from that, both on and off the field.

I think her real agenda is to do everything she can to win a flag for Ninthmond.

The main thing you would learn is that most of her stuff is personal and payback. She settles her scores using her column.

You should get yourself a column then and blaze away.

The thing that disappoints me about this article, is that she says Viney and Neeld strongly disagreed over recruiting and 'other issues'. What are these other issues? You can't just put that out there without letting people know what the other issues are. Where they meaningful issues? Is it not normal for people in an organisation to have a difference of opinion? While she may have been right on other issues, it is typical poor journalism from her.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
