Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

@melbournefc: Neeld: We thought that under 5 goals on the road was a positive.

No, not it is not, a 5 goal loss to a top of the table interstate team, maybe.

A 5 goal loss to a team as bad as us who kicked poorly at goal and had over 100 possessions more is pathetic.

PATHETIC!!!

I'm not against Neeld but that is accepting mediocrity and it is just not good enough if we want to be a good football team.

we lost by 25 goals 3 weeks ago.

If Sylvia had kicked a goal at 3:40 in Q4 there would have been 13 points in it.

We scored 3 goals less than the opposition without our only 2 key forwards.

Unless you have a brain tumour that is an obvious improvement.

Fits with the development mantra. i thought we were in development mode in early 1966 with the infusion of syd catlin, jungwirth, leahy and rattray.

Ed: Oops, I forgot Frank Vearing, debuted as a two year old, late 1965. Now that's development:

Against a far better team. The aim needs to be to win and anything less is a failure. That's why they play, to win.

now that is the type of mentally questionable attitude I am talking about. If anything less than a win is a failure, then you must be expecting to us to win every game for the rest of the year or else we will have failed by your assessment. You can see how that logic is not abundantly intelligent can't you? What if we lose interstate to the top side by a point with our 4 best players off injured.. your logic dictates that is a failure. This is not how it works, is it?

Did you see the second quarter Mr Curry and Beer? 2 goals, 8 behinds our opposition kicked in that 20 minutes.

I'm not a great fan of Mark Neeld, but I know we don't need a new coach now. He perhaps expressed it badly, but during the week, when I was asked how Melb would go, I said we'd get done by 4-5 goals. And I think most of us would have said the same thing.

There were positives. I thought Jamar was much more confident, had a kick or two, and Watts is coming good as well. The third quarter was bad, but we managed to contain it. We were 5 goals closer to Brisbane than last time round.

The commentators raised questions about our work-rate, and its not the first time I've heard that. Perhaps fitness is an issue here.

I'm not sure about the zone defence. I know how it works in basketball, because each player only has about 40 square metres to guard. But a footy field is 40 times bigger than a basketball court, and I can see how the opposition seem to find ways through quite easily. Perhaps this is part of the development process, or perhaps the best we can manage at this stage. I'll be glad when we move on from it though.

Yes I regard that as a failure. Shoot me, I like to win.

That hypothetical loss may be a better effort than we are used to but it's still a failure.

In regards to expecting to win every game for the rest of the year, obviously I don't but it is still not acceptable. I'd say top sides like Sydney and Hawthorn regard a loss as a failure and don't accept anything less than a win. If we can have the same attitude we will be on the way to being a really good side like those teams. It is a mental game and we have to instill a winning, uncompromising attitude if we are ever going to be successful.

I'll stand fuqed, We lost in cataclysmic style by 25 goals to a TOP, currently unrelated side

so a 5 goal loss to a depleted side that's has only won against an expansion side is acceptable?

Well then.

This is misguided frustration. If only the players didn't pull their finger out for 20 minutes last week we'd be listening to Neil Craig talk to the press.

Just hang in there until after the Suns match.

Yes, if you lose you lose. But it doesn't mean that within that, there can't be positives.

Just as there can be negatives in a win.

Absolutely there can be positives, I'm not saying there can't be. But overall, I think a loss as unacceptable and accepting a loss breeds bad attitudes and is detrimental to trying to build a strong, winning culture.

Traitor.

No, you're right. It's going we'll and we just need to hang in there until we come up against another bad side and get done by 5 goals (when it should have been 8). How dare I expect more.

That was one of the worst Brisbane sides they've fielded in years and Brown was well below his best. What treacherous is the crap we are expected to swallow. The club is selling nothing, will be 500k in debt by the end of the year and keeping the coach shows we will just accept that.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
