Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

When we have Dawes ,Hogan and Clark up forward with Gawn resting there, we will be virtually unstoppable up forward.

This is what we have to sell to an A grade midfielder, in the hope of luring him across next year.

You are being trolled.

School holidays.

You gotta laugh the prevailing group think on Demonland some times which sees any 'new' poster (read: outsider) that arrives suggesting an unpopular view is automatically stamped as a Troll.

Give the guy a break. The crux of what he is suggesting was reported in the press and his conclusions are there to be drawn without you labelling him a troll. Why resort to name calling and just disagree? Or is that not the Demonland way?

You are kidding me right?

You are accusing me of 'groupthink' because there is a poster who has only posted in one thread and that thread is to criticise the recruitment of one particular former Collingwood player?

Give me a break - you are on the internet. You will be trolled. If he doesn't like being called one then post regularly on other subjects on this site. It's not hard.

And 'groupthink' - how is that? What groups are we in? This year I could not tell you what Land thinks as a whole about the future of certain players, the coach, the president, the FD, et al.

There is no group think on this site at the minute - we are in flux.

Money!

And also the fact that maybe the Club has had a word, enuff of the attacks, so a little balance with a feelgood story about MFC, it is not only Eddie (in another topic), that is sick of the rubbish that is presented as journalism at the moment.

Dawes has always come across as a very intelligent bloke, so it adds to the piece, good choice

I agree mate it was just a small joke.

Amuses me that some people think AFL footballers don't live on the same planet as the rest of us.

As long as he is not bagging his team mates I don't care what he rights.

Just get healthy and start playing please.

Just so you know, I was joking too about Dawes writing for The Age. I figured that as he strongly dislike nearly all of their football writers, that I it was relevant to jokingly question why he would lower himself to write for the same paper.

If Collingwood thought that Dawes was in their best 22 he would still be there. He was told that he would not be in the best 22 and should look elsewhere (by the coaches and players!!! He wrote about this).

The salient point, that you seem to miss, is that with the departure of Leigh Brown, Buckley wanted (needed) a second-string KPF who could take on ruck duties. Dawes isn't really that player. Him leaving is not a reflection on where Dawes was at, it's a reflection of where the team and coach were at.

While Cloak was at Collingwood, Dawes could never just be the KPF that he is. It's a bit like why Jolly left Melbourne, he was never going to get a run while Jeff White was there. Jolly was not a dud, or "not first 22".

The crux of what he is suggesting was reported in the press and his conclusions are there to be drawn ....

The crux of what he is suggesting was not reported in the press the way he was presenting it (the players never told Dawes he wasn't first 22, they basically just told him to go if it would make him happy), and is at best a less-than-full picture of why Dawes left Collingwood.

A change of role led to his being disenchanted. "I am not a ruckman" he told the coaches. Neeld offered him his old role back. From a collingwood trainer.

Two other clubs chased him. Leroy was a mate. He liked and respected Neeld (beats me - must see something i don't).

If he plays like he did in 2010, I will be rapt.

more talk.. what else is he going to say?

I'll see Dawes playing well and Melbourne winning games before I commence any backslapping

the truth.... = the players like what is taking place around the club,,,, that is, the new players, the ones with a hunger to get to elite level type players.

not the lazy player types, who Were happy enough to be B+ /A- types, with fat wallets & no bruises, & let the lesser lights do the dirty jobs types...

these are the changes taking place.

you may notice that bennell isn't there, nor morton, nor others of that 'ilk, & more who have gone on to Green'r pastures.

I am thrilled that we got dawes, unlike byrnes and rodan he has youth, he is very bright and he and clark along with hogan could be a very dangerous forward line for a long time, a gun midfield and mcdonald developing further and the dees will be back up where they belong

Yeah, it would be nice, plus i think he is the sort of person who would put the lazy players in their place fairly quickly which we definately need

Had an interesting talk with a Collingwood friend ( there is an oxymoron if ever there was) - i mentioned to him that Clark is probably the most influential player we have whether he is getting a touch or not. ( I meant that in complimentary way) - he said Dawes is the same - runs to good position. made space for Cloke, hit contests hard, blocking, shepherding, busting packs.. even a no possession game didnt mean he didnt have influence. Now i hope he kicks goals which is what he is paid to do but I like his approach to his footy - even if you are not clunking marks you can still contribute.

This is excactly right. Everyone was calling for a change and a shake up of the club. Then once it happens and it turns out to be harder than we al thought they think well this coach has to be sacked. We all wanted change so we've got to see it through.

Dawes was on mmm on sunday and they asked him why he chose melbourne when he could have gone to a more successful club. He stated 2 reasons.

1- Because of Neeldy and there great relationship they had at collingwood and he knew what Neeld was like

2- He said when melbourne got Mitch Clarke he thought they paid way to much for him and he probably wasnt worth the money. He didnt think he was a great player. But then he saw Clarke play and before he got injured Dawes said he was actually a good player and surprised him and when the offer came to join melbourne Dawes thought if we can both play forward we could do some damage to opposition teams.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
