Gawn has not gawn, he has well and truly arrived

Max Gawn showed glimpses of his true potential today. What i really like about him, he is 6'9", but chases and contests like a mid fielder, and when he rests in the square, he is such as presence, that he attracts two or three defenders, and still beats them, either by marking it, or by providing a contest, and it falls to unmarked forwards. He is also a dominant centre bounce ruckman.

I have said in other treads here, that Max has the potential to be in the 2 or 3 most important players at the club as we climb into the top half. I think today he showed us glimpses of that potential. it is very exciting...

I have a man crush on him - whilst I liked his marks, even more I liked his bringing the ball down, intelligently, a few rimes to a well placed crumber.

I though Max was great. He just fitted in and was full of confidence. Not much fazed him which I loved.

Spot on-when you are 7 foot tall you must not be beaten in the air ,which he wasn't .

He brought the ball to ground in the right spots.

He has a personality and his spirit will start to catch on to the other turtles .

Jamar was still poor but played his best game with Gawn in the side. Maybe the Russian cannot run out a game by himself. We need to play two ruckmen every week.

Even if Gawn loses a tap out he is there at ground level to contest. We still have massive problems in our clearance work though. It's our Achilles heel.

2nd 3rd and 4th efforts worthy of Jimmy .

Put Jamar in the shade.

There is light

there is hope

and his name is Max.

Jamar was absolutely terrible

No he wasn't. He was average but created some strong contests in the air, took some good marks and kicked an important goal. Terrible is unfair.

Edit: And he had 5 tackles, quite a few more than some of the other guys.

Max gawn really brought his impressive VFL form across to AFL level. He was outstanding today! His tap work was a long way ahead of jamars, and he was useful around the ground and up fwd. He was taking marks all over and laying tackles. If he can consistently put in performances like todays, as he gets more experience imo he will become one of the best ruckman in the comp, he just needs to stay fit. Loved it when he took the mark at the start and the stadium erupted!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
