GAMEDAY - ROUND 2

What

Recommended Posts

I have been a supporter of Neeld but tonights game was the same failed plan replayed, he cannot persist with this stupid Zoning, our players just cannot play it. We get cut to ribbons with some many opposition players running around loose. If he cannot change his game plan then he has to go. No point putting it off to the end of the year, the only good that can come out of continuing to pigheadedly play a bad game plan is we get a better draft pick for picking up the wooden spoon and lots more severe beatings. In fact the AFL may need to introduce a mercy clause into the playing conditions, like they have in baseball and other games when sides get slaughtered

The club has proven it can not draft.

Because 1. our coach has no idea of game plan or people skills.

2. We have a nice but unintelligent CEO [which affects little things every day & it adds up]

3. It seems we have and have had so little serious footy nous at any level of the club, leading to:

4. Poor decisions re drafting, hiring coaches & everyone

5. People not realising that AFL is a very serious full time career now. [i was slaughtered by D'land posters when I suggested Martin needed to spend much time thinking about his footy, learning to play CHF & ruck, and less time with the girlfriend and the Law studies etc., ]

I suggested we trade Jamar while he was worth something & keep Martin as 1st ruck this year.

Have a nice day everyone :-)

lol yeah... That's all the answers lol..... Trading Jamar would have saved us from 148...

I've never seen a team come out of this with the same coach, the coach will go,it's just when now. This zoning game doesn't work with a team like ours. The only way a team like us can play football is when the opposition have the ball,it's man on man all over the ground so they have to kick to a 50-50 contest and we create a spoil at worst and our crumbers fight at ground level.

Last week against Port and tonight, they kicked to unmanned team mates all over the ground and there was no pressure at all.

Like I said, the coach will go,i've never seen a coach bring a team out of this ever,it won't happen.

Gary, can you choose our 3rd coach, preferably someone with experience.Even Rocket Eade would have us playing a better brand of footy.

What was Mark Neeld thinking?

Why is Toumpas in the team? - he is not AFL ready

Why is Trengove in the team? - he is not at full fitness

Why is Gillies playing AFL? - he is a meat head!

Why is Nicholson playing? - he is not an AFL player

Why not give Jetta or Strauss a chance instead of Gilles and Terlich and Byrnes and Nicholson?

Why not upgrade Magner? - someone who actually cares

All legitimate questions.

I disagree this is a draft issue, we put 22 players out there who are supposed to be AFL standard, some may not be. But it does not matter what 22 players we seem to put out there, there is no spirit, aggression, passion, skill or determination from most of the players. We could draft buddy franklin and to find he would die of cold waiting for the ball to go down there. Mitch Clark went into the centre as a midfielder and got 2 of our very few clearances, what is wrong with the players we had there, how the hell did heppel run around all night with noone on him. Poor coaching, disgraceful effort, something needs to change, hopefully our side and our game plan. Given the level of frustration, if someone is going to start a thread for whos in next game, they should actually start with who do we keep from this side as its probably a shorter list.

I made 5 serious comments and 2 minor ones of which trading Jamar and keeping Martin as 1st ruck was one. And I do think we'd have done 20-30 ponts better today with him rucking.

What I find the most frustrating is that EVERYONE can see our ZONING does not work. It is killing us, we are getting slaughtered in the overlap while our players are protecting patches of grass. Opposition players are falling over from cramp from getting uncontested possessions. How the hell can we be the hardest team to play against when we are not even within 5 meters of our opposition player. More importantly why cann't our coaching team see this. Is it a matter of I have my game plan and I'm going to play it hell or high water. We were down 100 points from this game plan, but the players were still out there trying to man up to patches of grass instead of opposition players AS DIRECTED. How do you think the players feel playing a game plan they will no longer have any faith in.

there were a few, who were shocked that Jamar got three years....including me.... Trading Martin and bringing in pedo was also a big shock move.... That hasnt worked...

All your other points have been made by others in great detail..... You claiming them as your own is just silly....

We are a joke..... We are finished as a club.... Our only hope for ultimate success is to merge or relocate..... It's time for the big broom.... That's my statement....

We should have got Mick M, now who can we target - WE NEED AN AFL COACH!

Bomber Thompson? - we just need to throw money at good coaches

Not many coaches want to touch this sad bunch of children. No heart in these players, none at all.

I thought we would have had the usual Post Game Thread by now, so I will re-post here.

OK, that's enough! Some people will accuse me of being anti-Neeld from the start - they are right, but it is not because I have any personal objection to him, it is because I did my homework! He should never have been appointed, but that's history apparently written by Garry Lyon.

Where to from here?

Firstly, if Neeld has any self-respect he will resign.

Secondly, the Board needs to meet tomorrow, sack Neeld if he hasn't resigned, appoint an interim coach and then declare all Board positions open for election at a future date. As for the other coaching, administrative and support staff, their positions would depend on who is made interim coach, and 'interim' means only for the rest of this year at the most. In particular, CS and CC must go immediately. Also, a bit of advice for the interim coach - no fancy game plans, let the players play football and enjoy themselves - after a few games, then start to gradually implement some game plan ideas.

Thirdly, the Andrews report needs to be made openly available.

PS: Please don't produce any rubbish about blaming the players - leaders must always bear the responsibility for the actions of those under their charge. Apart from that, does anyone seriously believe all the players are wrong and MN alone is right!

That's why we have to throw money at them, how do you think we got Clark and Dawes. We need to find a coach that wants a challenge - that wants to have a crack at the impossible

You know what? I still don't believe that, even if the evidence says otherwise.

I still think there is so much more to extract from this group, with some notable exceptions.

The group just seem confused and void of self belief.

An experienced AFL coach please. Stat.

So it seems we actually agree about much about the club. I never claimed I was the only one believing the points I made, though I've had them all along.

The club has made some bad moves, but it is not finished provided it takes some tough decisions immediately.

Some... That is being very kind. The club has made more than 'some' bad moves.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
