NAB CUP 3: ST. KILDA

I am pretty certain the AFL plans the last round of matches to be played for everyone who didn't make the GF. Seeing as we have played twice in Melbourne, expect to be shafted interstate or rural.

Pretty sure that depending on what happens this week in regard to the GF, we will either be playing Geelong down at Skilled or Gold Coast in GC next week.

Would rather play GC and try and go into the season on a winning note I think.

Geelong down at Skilled

oh please can we get in a little bonus trip down there to kick off our season

the AFL sends us down there for a complete demolition every single year, guess they figure we could use one to kick off the season this year also

Can anyone assist as to what media is covering the game? Are there any radio stations?

AFL website still only has the radio broadcast details for last weeks round of matches... yet they have the TV broadcast info up for this week. No idea if that means anything other than the fact that maybe they are incompetent.

Just don't mention 186.

It's just after 7AM on game day and it's already 22 degrees C.

I think they're taking a couple of minutes off each quarter and extending the breaks and that's just for the comfort of the spectators.

Demon fans should get there early and take part in the Casey community day. At yesterday's Melbourne Business Breakfast it was stressed how the club was seeking to bolster its relatively low supporter and membership numbers by initiatives such as the one in the Casey community. Get there early and get behind your club -

Unfortunately can't make tomorrow. anyone know if it is on tv and radio

According to the AFL site, no radio or tv for the game. Absolute horse [censored].

Us interstaters will appreciate any live updates and post match reports we can get from the Demonland faithful.

Everyone have a good day, and hopefully another win to keep building some momentum for Round 1.

It seems that Neeld is playing his cards close to his chest with NAB selections. Its a pity he only holds two two's. Somehow I dont think other AFL coaches will fears his hand as the player list is on show, and a third of the team has never played together!

Geez guys its NAB Cup. We'd all like to see our best team run out and play well but it means nothing. Get em all fit and ready for round 1. No injuries...

I preface that by saying we do need early momentum though as we havent won a rd 1 match since 2005. They are all having a run and the coaches are seeing what they can do.

Heard somewhere that DeeTV will be recording the game and uploading it to the MFC site later on.

Twitter updates agian?

I guess the only way i'll keep up with the game today is via the AFL app that gives you updates of scores and possys atleast

I'm a spectator and I'd be more comfortable with full length quarters

I believe this game will have shortened quarters due to the heat today. Not sure by how much though

Well the admission price should be shortened accordingly too

Yeah $20 for admission for NAB cup is a rip off, if all that money or say 50% was going to the clubs or straight to grassroots footy I'd be OK with it I'd be very surprised if it's not going straight into the AFL coffers.

On a different note does anyone know how often the shuttle buses will be going from Cranny station?

Twice in Melbourne? I'd class Casey as rural.

Hope so 'stuie'.

The more I think of it, the decision by Foxtel/the AFL to exclude Melbourne from the full length NAB Cup games, was a disgrace. Did we really need last night's GWS v Essendon game between two teams that haven't done much to date ending up a debacle and reminding us how far ahead of us the world game is in the western suburbs of Sydney?

At this time of the year, when your team needs to be at the forefront to increase memberships and sponsorships, it's pretty poor that a dedicated to football channel isn't showing any vision at all of your club. And it doesn't help when those two muppets on AFL360 went for four episodes without a mention of the MFC except for a little graphic which showed that Chris Dawes was among about 20 players unavailable for this weekend's game.

it was reported the other day that DeeTV will be recording it and putting it up on the web later. so id assume by tomoz morning we will get to watch it

After i asked them whether they will be giving regular Twitter updates, the MFC tweeted to me:

"@melbournefc: @hardtack52 we sure will be Tim and there will also be a live chat on http://t.co/YAXmt2gvjC"

If we end up at Simmonds stadium next week i will be very disappointed. Not a great way to go into round one and it would mean Geelong have had 3 consecutive pre season matches there!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
