Hurricane Viney? Gold!

Gotta say that these vids make me cringe each year. Yeah, it's the silly season, big deal, but given how poor we've been on and off the field over recent times, I'd rather we gave it a miss. IMO it does not sit well with the 'toughest team to play against' mind set. Do the top 4 teams do this yearly? I honestly don't know. But I reckon they certainly wouldn't if they consistently finished down the bottom.

its poor but its an absolute non issue and will be forgotten in a few days.

It's a bit of fun and I'm ambivalent about it ........ but I do hope they show a bit more structure and cohesion on the field next year!

I always enjoy the Christmas video no matter how corny it may be. Max Gawn was gold!

wow you must hate life

D-Rod has already started earning his salary.

The rest of the video was lame.

Lame! Not even a smile I'm afraid.

If these things are made for PR purposes they best stop.

It was a bit of fun, a little bit silly and showed the lighter side of the players not many get to see. It served its purpose perfectly.

If it was better, people would probably complain that too much time went into making it when the players should've been training.

Some need to lighten up, methinks.

One needs to understand how life works. These videos are cringeworthy when you're a team on the bottom of the ladder. When you can't win a game you're open season for just about anything. I find Geelong's Mad Monday lame, but because it's the dominant team of the modern era, along with Brisbane, it's become celebrated. If Melbourne players had "dress ups" on Mad Monday they'd be the laughing stock of the footy world; and all and sundry, including Denham, etc. would belittle Melbourne for their behaviour. You know, "if they'd put that much effort into their footy perhaps they wouldn't be propping up the ladder", and similar trite remarks.

When you're winning you can get away with anything, but when you've been losing everything is put under the microscope. The video may, or may not be lame, depending on how you view these things, but it has nothing to do with where we sit on the ladder.

I thought the video was pretty good. It was a lot better then last year. Some people also need to remember that not every dee's supporter is 80 years old and hates the world. My kids have watched the video about 20 times and they laugh everytime.

You think octogenarians hate the world ? For every one that does there are plenty with Dame Elizabeth's attitude to life.

I don't know what the hell some people expect - do you really think the club are going to bring in Judd Apatow on this project??

I enjoyed it for what it is; a cheesy xmas video where the players act like geese for the enjoyment of the supporters.

If you're someone who is overly critical of this vid, maybe the problem is your own unrealistic expectations...

The Christmas Video Contraversy of 2012.

Channel 9 thought it good enough to play part of it on the 6 o'clock news

or were they extracting the urine?

was actually better than most of their production, but that's not saying much

Stupid, but got a few laughs out of me so it did its job. Big Max seemed to enjoy doing the news report part of it and most of them seemed to have fun doing it, and in the end that's what it's all about.

Did dunny give max his tache? Max should ditch it, doesn't suit him

Max Gawn likes the spotlight and thats fine, However I am uncomfortable with him doing this before he's shown much on the footy field.

He acts like a celebrity without having proved himself yet.

I hope he can play as well as he performs in front of the camera.

Otherwise I thought the Xmas special was ok... and a couple of laughs.

One positive thing came out of that video: Whoever that makeup artist was, she could give Pia Miller a run for her money.

All good fun and some great performances in that clip.

I reckon if Max Gawn establishes himself as a player with the club then he will become a real personality in the game because he's got the looks, the wit and the humour and who on earth would take on someone that bi who's 6'10" tall?

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
