Glad it was detected early rather than mid feb whereby it'd worsen and he'd be out for half the year.

I wouldn't be writing off Trenners just yet, do so at your own peril if you're that way inclined.

He'll come back from this stronger and fitter, both mentally and physically.

Satryricon, i am 100% with you on this. One of things i really hate when i go to the footy is supporters (demon or otherwise) bagging their own players and whilst DL is a forum to discuss things about the club i also hate when dees players get bagged on this site, or at least when it is over the top. Questioning form, application, attitude is ok. Bagging them unnecessarily is just rubbish

And i for one cannot understand the lack of respect shown our skipper shown by several posters in this thread.

As for the questions marks about his form and where he will get to again i'm left bewildered. He was the first to admit that last he didn't play as well as he had hoped but according to Neeld he met the KPI's set for each player. I thought he was terrific in the last few games and with his fantastic work ethic, attitude and approach to getting the best out of himself i am super confident he will end up being a star.

What is no doubt is that he will be (and is already i reckon) a great leader for the MFC over the next decade and a player who role models to all how to go about preparing for and playing AFL footy. In case some people hadn't noticed the MFC has been in very short supply of exactly this sort of quality leader at the club for a long tome now and these qualities are exactly why Neeld made him the youngest ever AFL/VFL captain - that's 160 odd years!

Unfortunately some people cannot see a player in holistic terms and as an example discuss his form last year in isolation, without considering what else he brings to the table and contributed to the team.

Don't read the site in season then. It works like this at Demonland - all is good in the off season and all is bad during the season. If you question things in the off season you're a traitor with an agenda and if you defend things during the season you're a cheerleader.

Silly really, isn't it.

15th, 8th - it all depends on your perception.

Anyone happy with Trengove's output in 2012 has set the bar too low. Personally, I'm not overly concerned as I think there were reasons, such as injury, new game plan, role and focus on his defensive duties, and he looks like the sort of guy who, coupled with the new professionalism around the club, will get the most out of himself.

It is easy to understand how frustrated supporters get when players don't live up to hype or expectations. Sylvia, Morton, that kid from the Dandenong Stingrays, Jurrah etc have rightly all caused much teeth gnashing over the past years. Trengove, on the other hand, is completely different. As mentioned previously his peers and the Footy Dept (who are striving for elite standards) thought enough of him to make him the youngest ever AFL captain. Jack's first two years were exactly what you would expect of a player going onto to being a star of the game.

His 2012, by his own admission, was poor. Yet he still was rated the 8th best player of the year by the club. I don't know what was wrong with his kicking and acceleration but it was not like that in previous years. He had a kick for goal from just over 25 metres out and failed to make the distance. It was at this time that I realised he had a problem and that it wasn't the real Jack. It was kind of comforting

Out of all our list there is no surer bet than Jack to become a top line player. I don't understand how others cannot see this

Now at the risk of seeming somewhat facetious... Im guessing his foot was more than a tad sore.

would account for it all

speedy ( but full ) recovery Jack

"DEFENDER Tom McDonald and dasher Daniel Nicholson have taken out the three-km time-trial run at Princes Park on Saturday.

The two Demons broke away from the pack to run out joint-winners in front of second-year rookie James Magner.

Elite performance manager Dave Misson said the top five was as he expected.

“Tom McDonald and Dan Nicholson crossed the line together to win it,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“Then we had Jimmy Magner, who was third, and then Trenners (Jack Trengove) and Rohan Bail came fourth and fifth.

“That top five was what I thought would come across the line. They’re times are great and we’re really happy.”

You were saying?

I was saying his injured foot is very likely a result from having so much game time under duress without being monitored properly- what is your point?

He came third in a time trial? Good effort- still has a fractured foot though doesn't he?

You usually make a lot of sense Fan (even if i don't always agree with the view expressed) but to be honest i'm not sure how your comment relates to my post. I am not saying questioning Trengroves form or potential is being traitorous (or perhaps that's not what you're implying)'

Also not sure what you mean by all is good in the off season, given the negative rumblings even on a thread that is nominally about an injury to the skipper (eg who cares he's no good anyway). Plenty of pre season examples thus far from posters wanting to point out how bad things are.

One thing i will agree on however is that some things that go round and round on DL are pretty silly.

I reckon this year Trenners had OP which he probably got from doing the famous sling tackle which is typical of why he seemed slow & couldn't make the distance on that set shot
In the " old days " it was called a hernia which is a tear between the stomach & the groin area. It was enough to put you off getting out of bed let alone having a [censored] !
Now that I have established my medical credentials I would ask that you all also stop bagging Flash as I believe he has a condition known as " bone on bone " which is caused from excess running ( not wanking ). In the " old days " it was called a cartlidge which is the membrane/muscle between the knee joints. To do a cartlige was career ending !
In my humble opion it is remiss of the MFC to not come clean on these " facts " which only leads to endless pages of diarrhoea on Demonland ! I personally wish all of our players a healthy & succesfull 2013.Good luck to Trenners & Flash get off their backs. Thankfully haven't seen anyone bag the big bloke from brizzy over his injury yet !
Should anyone require further medical advic/se please contact the MFC, their local medical practioner or OOO. For the younger generation,if you don't have all the answers call 911 or 999 or whatever !!!!

You were saying that over 3 years he had become a plodder. A plodder doesn't come at the pointy end of a club TT, matching or bettering his PB.

As for the rest, you're just guessing. You have no idea what caused his foot injury, and equally because you have no idea what monitoring (or not) was being implemented, you aren't in a position to say whether that implementation was "proper" or not.

I said after 3 years he became a plodder. Difference is everything was fine and on par with expected development path, then the season from hell where he looked injured, but apparently wasn't, even though it looked like he was running in concrete out there- he never got a rest... time trials, grueling pre seasons, weight work.... where else did he get the fracture from Einstein?

Anything under enough stress for a long enough time breaks. He didn't injure it in a collision incident, it is a result of stress over a long period of time. That's player mismanagement.

Yep, we'll just have to cancel the entire pre-season.

Do you have any idea how good Bartel and Hayes were early in their careers ? Didn't think so.

After two years and 24 games Bartel, a former top 10 pick, averaged 12 possessions per game. Early in his third year he was dropped and played 7 games in the reserves. It happens with young players.

Lenny Hayes after his first 3 years and 50 games averaged 13 disposals per game. It wasn't until his 4th year that he showed the player he'd become.

Trengove has a big year coming up and it's a pity he's had an early setback, but his first couple of years were lightyears ahead of Hayes and Bartel. I'm surprised that so many supporters don't appreciate the quality player they have in their midst.

yeah yeah but that's what people said about the early years of McLean, Sylvia and Morton.. these players never became the elite midfielders they were supposed to be. Just because some other kid at some other club, at some other stage of history came good after a few years has absolutely nothing to do with Trengove

Could he have caused it himself by running on the wrong surface during the off season break, a change of surface without the right shoe can cause stress fractures.....it's also nice to Albert posting isn't it?

Yeah, yeah, and just because some other Melbourne players haven't/didn't doesn't mean Trengove won't.

I prefer to judge players with me eyes. You can use history.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
