No. She was in Singapore last week.

Hopefully, if she's back this week, Garry will take her up on that offer from a fortnight ago to reveal her sources.

i certainly hope so because i have no doubt Garry was absolutely furious & i think he did really well to keep his cool.

Now the farcical penalties have been shovelled out, he probably can let fly.

Again, my only issue with that is that she is so coniving that she will give her *source* for our 'unofficial' defence, and imply they were the ones to give her the information about The Vault ©.

One other matter suggested was that the person who "squealed" to Wilson had previously supplied her with information about a different matter which was designed to embarrass the club and which subsequently proved to be untrue.

If the 'squealer' had previously supplied her an untrue story designed to embarrass the club - I would assume the something like the Davey / Mifsud pulava, then why would Caro trust said squealer again? It doesn't make any sense.

What I cant stand in all of this, is that we cant seem to escape this crud. We seem to be eternally dogged by issues that one way or another make us a longstanding joke of a club - whether it be factionalism, unprofessionalism, vendettas blah, blah blah.

Rather than a "kill", I'd prefer a quick - quiet - surrender. The club has been through enough pain in the last few years to last at least until its next centenary.

Those members of the Gardiner Board hurt by Jim's bloodless coup can rightly claim a good chunk of the credit if we can grow from here into some sort of power........ and that is how they must see it.

Let's face it ......... it all comes back to achieving continual improvement on the field

The members of the Gardner Board nearly destroyed our club. Collectively they set us back a long way. They get zero credit from me and in fact I hold them responsible [censored] told us supporters about how healthy our club was.

If I find out members of their board have been undermining the club in the tanking investigation I will work hard towards ensuring they pay for their actions.

Who do you think fed Wilson the story about Schwab looking ashen faced after the team beat Port Adelaide?

Who gave Robinson the story with alleged details about the Swans game at Manuka?

Certainly not people friendly to the cause of the incumbent board.

I've read the last of my Caroline Wilson articles.

She can keep her opinion. My breakfast is better served where it is.

Very keen to predict people being sacked ...

Isn't she just?

This is where she gets her kicks. Some footy 'journalists' like to predict finals contenders, others have pools on industry sackings...

Posters should be aware that anyone seeking to respond to Ms. Wilson's work are liable to be attacked for being "childish" and "sexist".

It's one way in which people who are too lazy (or simply unable) to respond to genuine criticism of her work deflect the real issues involved with the shoddy agenda based journalism we get from Caro these days.

Posted

Please note that contrary to what you might think, I am not pointing to a specific person or even a group of people: they could come from a number of groups with past associations with the club who might be disgruntled. However, based on what I know, there are more people than just the four disgruntled former employees out of thirty witnesses who gave the "evidence" upon which the AFL made its decision notwithstanding that its clear that the club did not breach the AFL's tanking laws which was what the investigation was supposed to be about.

I'm looking forward to a full exposition.

Yeah - her top eight in those pre-season polls will contain her 8 people most likely to be sacked:

Schwab, Connolly, "the Weapon", Robson, Thompson, Hird, Swan, Gale - well maybe not Gale.

I have maintained throughout that people who were once close to the club undermined it during the course of the tanking investigation. Given that it is now common knowledge that four such people (all former employees) gave their version of the "vault" to Clothier and Haddad that proposition would seem self-evident. The club's interests were undermined by the evidence they gave. That is a fact and not a smear. I am not suggesting they lied but it's clear that others gave different evidence.

My information is that at a particular point in time (September/October) the enquiry was going nowhere and was indeed in danger of folding. I have been informed that the "vault" information was voluntarily provided to the investigation by a former employee .............................................................

WJ's information is consistent with my own. Certainly one disgruntled ex employee - whose extreme bitterness was known at the time of his termination - was instrumental in escalating the investigation. We can condemn that person's vitreole - but it is not uncommon for ex-employees to carry deep-seated grudges and it is not something human resource management expertise can necessarily prevent.

The club knows who that person is - and it is reasonable to conclude that he ( and his fellow stirrers) will never get close enough to the club again to do any more damage.Wilson may not be a scrupulous journalist - but I think she's shrewd enough to know when she has played all her cards - and when it is time to move to the next game.

If we begin a steady climb up the ladder this season - our detractors will pull their heads in - hopefully never to reappear.

This morning - notably under the "Analysis" banner - Wilson nominated Robson and Thompson as Essendon's two scapegoats with Hird the survivor ( even though a couple of weeks ago she said Hird's position was untenable). Nothing against James Hird - but there are a lot of Melbourne supporters who would love it if his head is the only one to fall in the end.!!

Well, that's one unsurprising revelation but WJ is quite clearly alluding to far more.

Richard Hinds is not a bad journo but to echo the words of Caroline Wilson, he has no credibility in respect to the remarks he made about Jeff Kennett's appearance on Footy Classified last week.

In the first instance because he's a workmate of the person Kennett replaced and in the second because Kennett is not just a retired politician but also because he's a former president of a major AFL club.

Did Hinds not know this or is he hiding away from this fact in his haste to act as apologist for Wilson?

I think you need to revise your understanding of the facts.

The Gardiner Board took over an absolute "basket case" - remember the PAYG tax bill in s secretary's desk drawer? They got us back on our feet - began the reconciliation with the MCC, solidified our influence at the Bentleigh Club, initiated the AAMI deal - and initiated the Casey alignment. Unfortunately they over-rated our list at a time when Sports Science was making its mark - and we were stuck in a hole at the Junction Oval. This undid a lot of their good work - but strategically ( with the critical additions of fund-raising) they pointed the way to the current board.

As I have noted above, the bone is now pointing more clearly at former employees than former directors

Anyway ... back to topic. Let's see how wrong Wilson can get Essendon !!!

So despite the fact that a number of people claimed to have knowledge of what Caro knew and what the AFL knew is not suggestive that there were others involved apart from the four who snitched or that the four never consulted anyone else about snitching?

No, Caroline finds AD as honest as they come, "never tells lies."

Besides, she values her sources.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
