Nothing will be done until the compo picks are known when FA ends.

we just have to wait.

.

In terms of pick 20 ? Geoff Walsh of Collingwood is on record as saying that pick 20 may not be enough - I think thats a tell-tale hint of what we offered.

"There are probably some better offers around than pick No.20, to be blunt," Walsh said

No Geoff walsh knows that Pick 20 is the max they can get, so if you want that you need to start at a position lower to meet in the middle, you NEVER open with your best offer, pick 20 in our case.

Thought you were smarter than believing what some Collingwood [censored] suggest on radio 10 minutes after Dawes nominates us, doesnt leave much time for us to offer pick 20 in between

$500 000 for Chris Dawes??!!

FMD.

500 large for a proven entity , albeit form up and down but theres reasons possibly for that. A player that would fit directly into the new game plan and provide not only on ground options but off -field benefits to a growing culture.

weigh this up against...oh I dont know.. A million for an over hyped mid  or even some of our own wonderful bargains in contracting.

Collingwood know they arent paying him enough in the current market.

500 ?? as is often mooted here or abouts some one has to get it.

whats the average fee for a goal in the AFL these days ?

ka ching !

Based on what exactly?

OK star is a bit overs but he would be a very handy player for them. His cameos would likely be more frequent when surrounded by Lynch and CLoke and with him not taking a decent defender,

Just sayin..

He was underpaid at Coll.

The cap is $9.13 in 2013. If Dawes is on our list and getting $400/500k I don't really see the issue.

Again, Clark, Hogan, and Dawes means we don't have to worry about getting a tall forward for the better part of a decade and we only have to get the development of Hogan right.

Much better than Waiting For Superman (Watts, Cook, Fitz, et al).

Ive been mulling this over but cant quite find a how or why of FA compos coming into this deal.

Im just curious. Ive only heard/read of a compo being involved , Dee-wise, wrt Pedersen

where does a compo pick come into the Dawes deal. ?

Just happy to be enlightened, many others would too, form anyone.

And the dicking around continues

what do we know ...pick 20 is central to the offer. What can be added ? A swap of latter picks and its unclear in which direction that would go. A player and pick change combo, also a possibility

or

it might just end up pick 20

or

we might end up with pick 20, but im guessing ( and thats all it is ) that ultimately the Filth are more interested in space on their list and cap.

You hit the nail on the head BB.

If another player was to be traded, they still have to pay that player.

O.K. it may not be the $280k they were paying Dawes, but it wouldn't be much less.

I dare say you wouldn't get many wanting to jump ship for say 200K

I am smart and unless lots of good players are involved in this trade we shall see just how smart when the deal is concluded.

Are we sure Collingwood are holding up the deal because they want more?

Couldn't it be us holding off because we'd rather use pick 27 in the trade?

Just a thought.

Have a bit more faith - we've done bloody well out of trade week so far since Neeld has been at the club.

I agree JM So don't take this the wrong way

But he did not have a lot to beat

Not sure what bb

Any clues?

as i, but a humble member, see it there are any number or issues to gauge competence and direction by

Are we a slave to the need to show dramatic improvent and if so by what ends at what expence?

Are we more tempered and circumspect about where we are on our journey and what we need and can afford ?

Are we any good at pinpointing our needs /shortcomings and how to fix them.

Are we good negotiators ?

Are we able to play with the bigboys both on and off the field ?

These dealings are quite pivotal .

Hmm

Seems to me that most of those will take till this time next year to judge.

This time last year there were a considerable number saying Clark was not worth what we paid.

Even some saying it was an error after the first couple of rounds of the season.

But as always time will tell.

Again, I can only go on what is reported (and we know how accurate journo's can be) - but there are a lot reporting the same thing

- dogs offered pick 21

Collingwood (rightly) give scant regard to where the player wants to go - they want the best deal. If it is a deal for picks only can it be explained to me why Collingwood would happily take pick 27 from us over pick 21 from the dogs ?

But you dont think MFC will want to offer the comp pick first which was my point? the deal may not get done for it and may end up with pick 20, that does not mean that we have it on the table now, we may settle to get the deal done, or may get it done for a compo pick and something like Martin imo

They let Wellingham go for pick 19 or whatever when we offered pick 13? was that hardball not caring at all the players wants?

edit - reportedly offered pick 13

Likely this and Likey that, that's all Melbourne has been for the last decade

Ah someone who understands, it also allows that mid sized forward to play a role in which he is more suited. Thus the benefit is twofold

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
