Martin sucks and is already 27

you gotta be kidding me that he would be preferable to Dawes

Comparing Martin in a lousy team with Dawes in one of the best teams ...

We'll only get an idea of their relative worth if they do swap.

Completely unsubstantiated but rumour going around that we offer P4 for Dawes and Wellingham.

Provides Pies with something to give for Tippett and clears cap space for Tippett and Giles.

Not sure how I feel about it yet but if Viney got to 2nd round you'd have to be pretty happy with the outcome.

Madness IMO

Pick 13 for the two of them at best and thats IF we get Viney with second round. Otherwise pick 13 is overs too.

Couldn't possibly be true.

And trade week hasn't started yet so I am not going to worry about this terrible deal until the last 3 days of the trade week; most deals will be done then and if it is still a possibility I will fret then.

That would be why its a rumour rpfc. And if you dont want to read it there are plenty of other threads, dont shoot the messenger.

Not shooting the messenger, but...

I thought that one of the AFLs aims about having the F/S nominations BEFORE the trade and draft period was to separate them and remove all possibilities of draft tampering. Dimwitreau and Underson came out specifically and stated that draft pick deals linked with F/S nominations would be seen as such.

It's one thing to play hard ball, but totally another to be warned, still do it and then think that it's ok. Are we prepared to forfeit draft picks in 2013 as a penalty? The AFL community is small enough that everyone involved knows what goes on, including the above mentioned. If you play with fire, don't be surprised when you get burnt.

I posted this in the Caddy thread but it belongs here too.

I have heard via someone who spoke to Josh's brother, who plays down at Heidelberg in the NFL that Josh has a deal as good as done with North and will be there next year. As well as that, apparently a few of the Suns guys, Ablett especially, are happy to be rid of him.

I know a bloke who has a brother on the board.

He tells me that the Bombers are making a huge play for Rory Taggert.

Their early offer was a 3rd round pick, but we told them to go jump. He also added that his brother thought it was unlikely to happen, but that he couldn't count it out, as the Bombers has been sniffing every week, and had also sent some of their heavy hitters for a face to face with Rory.

It would be devastating if we lost him. People bang on about our need to draft midfielders yet we have him and Gysberts here who are about to get a pre season and hopefully a game in 2013.

If I've got this right, he had stress fractures in his spine earlier in the year and returned to Casey towards the end of the year. If you have a look at his press conferences and interviews, he seems to have the kind of attitude and character that the playing list needs to work harder at getting off the bottom of the ladder.

If it's true that the Bombers are looking at him, they'd prob be right to be doing so. He's got wicked skills.

Agree. He's going to surprise a few if he stays fit.

In relation to Taggert, and when you only seen a guy play a couple of games, yet you say to yourself, "yep, he'll be a player"

A must keep.

Tim Harrington was just on SEN and Robbo asked if we were interested in Farren Ray. The answer was yes and other players like him. Not sure what others think but I am worried with most of the players we seem to be after.

I believe we are after gap filling players because we have too many holes to fill in our side. It is also easier/cheaper to land byrnes and others then it is tippet or other big fish. If we had a strong list we could go after a big fish. Don't worry our workers will come from free agency and our cream will come from the draft (touch wood.)

I hope your right Cowboy, but I dont think players like Byrnes, Ray, Dawes and Pederson will give us much more than Moloney, Rivers and Green who are all out the door. So unless we get quite a few of these gap fillers were not going to advance much further up the ladder next year anyway.

I'd say we're building around what we have, at the moment we surprisingly have a half decent defence .. now if our midfield was better our defence would probably be even better. We will address the midfield with the draft and with some of the youngsters we already have. Ray would also provide some outside run be it on a wing or half back while not a star would make us a lot better.

Next we have Byrnes who will be able to support Mitch at ground level, after that we dont have a lot which is why we'll attempt to get someone like Hogan to build around or a Pederson type to put in some structure until a Hogan is available or both.

Free agency will be on again next year, and who knows if we turn it around enough next year we might entice some big fish in next years free agency.

I agree that these players won't do a heap individually but hopefully like Sydney they can collectively play their role well. I'm sure Sydney fans never got excited about Shaw,Mattiner and all the other rejects they picked up.

Out side runners. We are after depth, to force the kids to push themselves harder to make it. Game come too easy at the MFC.

Hopefully they'll give us they're Open Minds, & plenty of fresh attitude. And a high work ethic.

We would also be mad not to be talking to Clinton Young.

Exactly the type we need and out of contract.

The kids are the future the FA's are the present to help develop the kids, we will pick up more kids this year and the next, while that is happening kids from a year a to ago will start taking over key positions. Neeld seems to know the sort of players he wants, players who will not only help win games but help build a new culture. We need to change both players and culture to be successful. Future FA's and draft will help us build on this years platform.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
