Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks Deebest. Just briefly what would the Assistant Recruiting Manager's tasks be during the year. How does it change in the top role? I have always been interested as to what they do over a year when football is only played for part of it.

I imagine they watch and re-watch days-worth of tape and dissect it in miniscule detail.

Like everyone else seemingly, I'm excited about this guy joining us.

That said, I reckon Viney, Harrington and the recruiting team did a top job this year. Landing Viney with pick 27, and then Hogan, Barry and Toumpas with our first round picks was absolutely sensational.

Hats off to them.

I agree RB, imo we've done really well this year. so far.

I applaud the strategy to get those players, RB. But they are all up in the air as recruiting decisions (save for J Viney) until they deliver.

And Toumpas and Hogan will be the legacy of Todd's year in charge. The rest (save for Kent and Stark) were all the domain of the Pro-Scout Kelly O'Donnell.

I guess what I am saying is that we only went for a couple of teenage investments but like always - they have to be blue chip.

Pick 26 because GC and GWS refused to bid on Viney for a top 2 pick, no doing of anyone at the club.

And Toumpas was the "obvious pick" available at 4.

The Hogan/Barry deal will be the big question mark of the draft. Picks 3 and 13 could have become Wines and Grundy instead, two 18 year olds likely to have an impact next season and for a decade to come.

Instead we'll wait for Barry to develop into a body capable of playing AFL footy and 2014 for Hogan to be eligible to play. Not a knock on either but it's hardly an "absolutely sensational" result (definitely not for season 2013 anyway).

Are you forgetting Dawes also came with 20 which we got back from 13?

Taylor had input in 2012. Given I got lambasted for stating my source last time ill just leave it at that.

Given the Pies had picks 19,20,21 or thereabouts and we had committed 27 to Viney it wouldn't have really mattered to the Pies if he did.

For 3, 4, 14 and 26 we ended up with Viney, Toumpas, Hogan, Dawes and Barry, with some shuffling down in the third round where we were just picking state leaguers anyway. Pretty much three top-5 picks plus a 24 year old premiership CHF.

I would think it had a lot to do with people at the club and is linked to the Hogan, Barry deal at a minimum and maybe also to Toumpas.

Not that they weren't sold on potentially losing Lachie Whitfield over a dummy bid maybe? Seems more feasible to me.

Can't believe your consistency at being so far off the mark!

How am I off the mark?

If they bidded for Viney with pick #1, the would have risked losing Whitfield.

There isn't a team in the comp that would have taken Viney over Whitfield.

I think we were always going to take Viney so yeah I think we would have but we will never really know will we. What we will be able to compare are the careers of Viney and Whitfield.

Perhaps not officially ...

As above, we didn't use 3 and 13 on Hogan and Barry. We used 3 and 13 on Hogan, Barry AND Dawes PLUS the option to take Viney at 27 - which then enabled us to take Toumpas at 4 rather than having to take Viney there.

Your scenario would never have played out. We could never have had Viney, Toumpas AND Wines without doing the Hogan deal as a sweetener to let Viney slide.

We did a deal with GWS to get Viney in the second round. They put pressure on GC not to eff around with Pick 2 as it was destined for GWS.

I am sorry to a couple who will make salient points about 'not knowing for sure' but you can't judge what we did this off-season accurately if you reject that deal.

No we didn't, because that could be another 5 month inquisition, this time on draft tampering.

We just advised what we could do if we were in a certain position after father/son nominations and they decided what they would like to do. They obviously liked what we could do and what they could get and everyone including GC was happy with what they got as a result.

No deal, no tampering, just stating options and positions.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
