far out. thats a bad trade by us. we have basically given away Martin for nothing. I would have been far happier with the club if they stood there ground and said no deal.

And then have a guy who the FD does not want, the players is very unhappy and the MFC pay him for zero.

Trade him and all win.

I can only assume that we are going to either trade some picks out or use 4, 49, 53, 63, and 73.

I am amazed at that.

Simply amazed.

All over now rpfc so those are our picks.

It will depend on how many we delist but I would not be surprised if we up grade two rookies and use pick 4.

Then all over.

You can use Pick 124 to upgrade rookies.

The fact that we got 73 back tells me we will use it, if we don't use it then Barrett may have a point about how we do business. In fact we 74 aswell back in the Pedersen/Gysberts trade. We should use that too in the ND on a non-rookie upgrade.

I expect us to take 6 new players in the ND or those upgrades were pointless and marginally self-defeating.

Seriously you are making me laugh out loud. Today has been a disaster for the footy club hope this Neeld fella knows what his doing.... Does anyone have any ideas which players mark Neeld didn't/doesn't like???

Disaster? We traded out Gysberts and Martin- one who has potential but struggles with intensity, and one who is athletic but struggles with footy smarts- both were not regular 22 in a lowly team like ours.

Hardly a "disaster" in any language. A disaster is losing required players.

Correct. 30 wins against 120 losses. Something had to give. Big time.

And we have only beaten TWO Victorian teams since 2007. Disgrace.....

It really boils down to how many of the uncontracted players will be cut.

That determines the picks we have.

As I understand it we must make 3 ( Min.) picks but can use rookie up grades.

To make a trade you must get something, so getting late number picks means little if you just want to get rid of players.

How many of the un contracted group do you think will go?

EXACTLY....The list was always going to get pulled apart..

At whatever the cost.

You may be right rfpc but my take on it is mark Neeld had very little opinion of Martin, Gysberts and Morton and said something along the lines of get what you can for them hence why they where all traded on the last day for what you might say not very much. Only my opinion. But do you really see us drafting 5 at the supposedly not so strong end of the draft?

Well, I assume we are going to use 49, 53, 70, 73, and 74.

That means at least 5 openings going into ND.

Probably no-one in the PSD I guess...

We have 2 openings right now due to Martin, Morton, and Gysberts leaving with only Pedersen coming in.

If Evans and Nicho are upgraded we need 5 more deletions. Bennell, Cook, MacDonald, Bate, Petterd, and Davis would lead that race surely...

The pick that got us out of Morton was that.

The Martin 53 and 73 deal tells me we will use both picks.

And 74 we got back for Pedersen.

Why get them if we aren't going to use them.

I am assuming the club knows what it is doing and they will use Pick 74 in the draft on a non-rookie upgrade.

He clearly doesn't like those that are refuse to get the hard ball, have poor disposal, who's Huff is all puff, haven't developed, won't play his brand of footy and Jared rivers.

I have a gut feel Evans won't make it rpfc I reckon he is not physically sound.

However staying with your group I would keep MacDonald and fling the rest.

I saw no need for Martin, but 53 and 73.... wtf are we going to do with that?

Viva la re-build anyway, I'm all for it!

I'm not jumping off the walls like some but wow, slight overreaction C&B.

What did they actually contribute? I'd say its a fair deal.

We got their value

The buyer sets a price if you want them out then you except the price.

Otherwise you have players on your list you do not intend to play and have to Pay.

I keep saying this but did see who we beat this year.

We were not competitive all year against almost everyone.

The list had to change and there will be more next year.

Did any of those three contribute anything in 2012?

Curry & Beer do you enjoy watching Melbourne getting pumped and then having players from other clubs saying we play bruise free football

Yes, quite clearly he didn't like those who have gone. Presumably he likes most of those who are left or we will do this all again next year.

I'm amazed that so many members of this forum think they know more about a player's value than a bunch of NEW professionals (whose careers depend on getting things right) when they dispense with players chosen by the OLD professionals who clearly got it wrong. Did we do so well in 2011/12 with the list we had?

Oli, are you bitter that some of your predicted 14-Club trades didn't come to fruition, and in turn, wasted all that time you spent thinking up such deals?

He's upset that his Trengove trade didn't go through

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
