Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Get Paul Williams - Midfield Coach

Grandson of a gun

Recommended Posts

Heard him on Marngrook tonight. Was midfield coach at Carlton with a specialty or focus on stoppages and clearances. Has an absolute passion to stay in the coaching caper.

Has worked with one of the best midfield units in the competition and also a product of the Sydney culture/premiership.

My personal opinion is that he would make a great replacement for Royal as senior midfield coach and would provide much needed expertise in an area we struggled badly in.

GET HIM!

He was part of Bailey's ensemble.

That is not correct. He was inherited from ND's regime for one year.

Paul Williams was appointed by ND at the end of 2006. He was the last of the ND assis coach appointees to leave MFC in 2008. Was he pushed or did he leave of his own accord? I would have thought if the coach that appointed you is sacked then his appointees are on thin ice. He then went to WB for two years and then went to Carlton. Bailey appointed Scott West as midfield coach in 2008

Given how crap MFC's midfield (and elsewhere) has been in the 2009-2012 period with a significant lack of cattle, Williams should have been happy to move to Clubs with better upside than us.

been there done that, unlikely to bring anything new. Though on memory I dont think he was the midfield coach last time which i think we all discussed was odd.

No he was the midfield coach from 2007 to 2008.

Aside from Jones, which midfielders who were playing in 2008 will be playing at MFC in 2013.

Given we have a completely new and young midfield WIlliams would be "new" to them. And he would have significant experience as an assistant coach at AFL level from a number of clubs which we lack.

However, I am not sure he would want the MFC job even if offered it.

Paul Williams was a fantastic player and a good bloke but his work with Melbourne's midfield during his time at the club was quite forgettable. I'm not certain that he was a raving success at Carlton either but he had some quality footballers at his disposal.

IMO in was just as much if not more a cattle issue - regular mids at the time were Junior and Godfrey

Our midfield is terrible jones is the only shining light, the better midfielders once taking possesion of the ball mostly kick it long to position and only pass the ball to a player in a better position within the area of the centre square. our midfielders try to pass in the centre square to players who are not free ball spilled pack develops opertunity lost it goes on every week. You could get the best midfield coach to plan stratergies but the players have to exercise the plan and quite honestly they don't have the talent to do so that's why we loose games you can't keep attacking from the back half as oppersition teams close you down.

Maybe with Jack Viney & Jones next year maybe better if we could snare Caddy our midfield would improve to move the ball into an uncongested forward half allowing better movement to goal, but saying that we aren't going to win too many games if we miss from within fifty and our oppersition kicks them from outside 50

We need to bolster the midfield one more tall forward to help Mitch, Fitzpatrick may be the one Howe also can take a grab but he needs to improve his kicking. If we can break even or win the clearence everyone who claim we have a terrible team will eat thier words because you can't win games when your thrashed in the midfield

I was shattered when we got Royal back at the club! Has he been giving the boot or are we all just wishing?

Someone mentioned in the B&F thread that Neeld said all staff would be back next year. So it sounds as if Royal will be back.

The players all spoke highly of Royal at the B&F, so perhaps they know something we don't.

Agree Robbie. I am not sure why all the angst over Royal. Its clearly not informed and i dont know how the rank and file can develop a clear picture on the performance of the assistant coaches. Too many variables that are not obvious to the crowds in the grandstand.

I too don't understand where the dislike for Royal comes from. Is it because he's the only assistant that Neeld didn't hand pick?

I won't pretend that I know how good or bad Royal is, but in his defense he hasn't had much to work with. And why is it they he get's a bad rap for a poor midfield, yet Neeld seems to escape any responsibility?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
