Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Plus Jurrah is out of contract so he can basically go to Port without them having to give us anything, let alone a very handy young player who will be important for them going forward. Won't happen.

Does Jacobs have a contract?

Does Jacobs have a contract?

Provided he only signed a 2-year contract when drafted in 2010, then he'd be out of contract.

I reckon Melbourne should also be telling Jurrah, that given all we have done for him, he should try and get traded as opposed to just leaving the club for nothing. I know many believe he isn't worth much, but there is so much doubt involved in his case, he will surely get off, even a dumbass lawyer should be able to get him cleared.

Yes a club is going to trade a first round pick who plays for them. for a potential criminal who may never play again and has made it clear he's happy to not play AFL again if need be.

If this trade happens I'll not only give you every possession I own, but I'll also personally deliver the letter from the AFL to shut down Port Adelaide as a club.

Why on earth would you re-contract a player that may be spending a considerable amount of time at Her Majesty's service ?

That would be there problem not ours if you get the drift.

I don't think we'll get something for Jurrah...

But Jacobs would be perfect for us. He is out of contract and he is very keen to come home to Melbourne. For those who doubt the 'go home' factor, this is a prime example. Jacobs signed a two year deal (minimum for new draftees) with the sole intention of returning to Melbourne. Port have tried numerous times to sign him but with no success.

Jacobs has two years experience. He is a ball magnet with a good kick. He has some versatility and isn't too skinny. If we convince him that this is the right club, he will come at minimum cost.

because a 12month deal would have stopped him walking out on the club, even put him on 2 years with a "no money during prison time" clause

Good luck getting him to sign it, and then even more good luck getting it past the AFLPA.

Would you pay for something that you can get for free anyway?

Yeah. Maybe we should just try and find a way to get Jacobs for "free". Would put Port in a very tricky position. (Houli Dooley!!!)

Jurrah is exactly what port need..... He'll bring patrons through the gate, just like he has for us........

How much would they pay for a player that they could probably get for nothing, who knows? If they are truely intrested in him, its because of what he brings through the gate.....they'll want him this year.....

If We play hard ball, we'll get something for him.... Not much though....

If port think their probably going to lose Jacob anyway, throw in our third round pick, and see if that gets it done.....

Essentially I agree with you...... Why would they give anything? Could we make it hard?

Why have a trade period if a player can just walk anyway?

We finished below port, on the ladder..... If we really wanted too, we can force a trade..... So could GWS, so could GC.....Do we waste a late pick or PSD, to make a deal happen? I would.... Just like I would force GWS or GC to take Viney if they nominate him....

If we continue to be walked over by lesser lights, in the AFL. How are we going to compete with the heavy weights?

I'm not convinced GWS & GC would get involved in the Pre-season because of list reduction placed on both clubs. Plus Im not sure even if they did - they would want to pay "reasonable" dollars for a kid that would obviously want to play in Victoria. If we had a "deal" in place say 3/4 years and an acceptable amount to Jacobs - I reckon he would be ours.

I am saddened at the thought of ever seeing Jurrah play in a demons jumper again.

He was a sight to behold.

BUT-

Jurrah not being on the list actually removes the dangerous temptation to make allowances for a player based on special circumstances.

And the even more dangerous temptation to potentially ignore his deficiencies and non-compliance to certain team benchmarks due to his significant match-winning talents.

I think that in this early stage of forging a strong uncompromising culture it is important to set standards across the board and steadfastly demand that all players meet them.

It's a difficult situation I'm glad the club no longer has to navigate around.

We are being walked over by The Rules and Circumstance, not any one particular club.

If GWS or GC make us pay with Pick 3 for Viney - it is the rules coming to bite us in the arse.

If Jurrah goes into the draft and PA pick him up at Pick 63 - it is circumstance that has bitten.

I don't want to turn this into another Viney thread but I fail to see how having a lock on the hardest player in a generation is being 'walked over'...

We don't value the right things at our club.

We celebrate pathetic little wins (or lament not getting them), like getting Pick 56 out of PA for Jurrah and don't applaud the big things that actually mean something like getting an 18 year old who will immeditately help Trengove, Grimes, Jones, Clark, Garland, and Frawley fix our terrible culture of easy satisfaction.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
