"BRETT Ratten has been told he will be sacked as coach of Carlton, according to reports."

Melbourne newspaper Herald Sun reported on Wednesday that Ratten had been told this weekend's clash with St Kilda would be his last as coach of the proud and traditional club.

I would love for Melbourne to approach Ratten to come back as the midfield coach for next year if this is true, which it will be.

From all reports when he was at Melbourne the midfield group at the time really rated him as the midfield coach.

He can simply replace Brian Royal, not sure on his contract status though?

Ratten's Carlton coaching career finished

BRETT Ratten’s coaching career at Carlton is finished. His official termination will be announced at 9.30am Thursday at a press conference at Visy Park headed by president Stephen Kernahan, Ratten and club chief executive Greg Swann.

Why do clubs bother with press conferences to make announcements any more? May as well just announce via a press release and if they really feel like it they can have a press conference to field questions/deny that Malthouse has already accepted squillions in non-sequential bills packed in brown paper bags

Yeah, we panicked and look what happened - a bit of patience, a lot of planning and some thinking, and we probably could have had MM. Have we been outsmarted yet again by a more ruthless club? Yeah, I know people won't like this comment, but it's a tough world out there away from the MFC.

He Didn't do much with Carltons midfield talent, don't think anyone could do much with Moloney,TacklesMckenzie,Crouch and Magna and so forth, flogging a dead horse.

Got rid of Jacobs for a song too, in summary, he doesn't have a clue.

I gotta say, this is the cowards way out for carlton, in the grand scheme of things he hasn't done bad and there are mitigating circumstances with their poor year. The courageous thing would've been to stick fat with Rats, but as I said they've caved to pressure and taken the cowards path.

And I will be royally [censored] if no one from the media doesn't grill him about tanking as they did for Bailey, should be interesting.

What if senior coaches have so much on their plate that they can't focus on the midfield as much as they would like? If we picked up Ratten as our midfield coach, could he get some results from our midfield since he has no other things to worry about?

AFL coaching can be a rotten job at times and I feel for Ratten. His players let him down far too often - he would be welcome back at Melbourne for mine.

We should definitely try and entice him. 3-year deal to be midfield coach? He's going to get three blue-chip youngsters to work with from the draft plus guys like Trengove, Blease and Gysberts.

Royal out. Ratten in.

I don't think we got the "wrong" coach for where the club was at a year ago and for what needed to be done to a real basket case.

This has sure been a horrible year in terms of games won, but there's more to it than that. If MM does take over the Blues it is quite possible they will do very well almost immediately.

But their window is fast closing where ours should be opening.

We had a kindergarten teacher in Bailey who stayed 2 years too long.

Now we have a primary school teacher - just what we need - as we learn how to get into the big game.

The test will come in about 2 years time when our coach will need to deliver BIG time.

MM took 7 years with the Maggies.

He would have needed the same with us - at least.

Would he have been prepared to do all those hard things Neeld is prepared to do ?

Would he have been so honest about why Moloney is not adjusting ?

Would he have been open enough to say so many other things which have needed to be said for so many years - but haven't ?

I have a feeling we would not have.

I like Ratten, BUT, I don't think it's a good Idea for him to be at Melbourne next year.

We need to be settled as we strive to overcome our Culture issues & our lack of leadership & changing gamestyle.

Having Ratten at Melbourne could be a destabling public influence.

I wouldn't mind him later on, after 12 months on the sidelines, however I think he'll want to be a head coach again, after a short stint out of it.

Carlton's recklessness will be their undoing. It breeds disunity.

They have cheated on their finances, wooed players from under the table and stepped over one of their own.

The Board starts getting on a roll with these actions and eventually think they can play God.

He was good but don't forget ... the sacking presser also doubles as a job application interview these days.

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
