Who should we pick up?

It’s so sad and embarrassing that this time of year is my most exciting as a Melbourne member. If it was a once off it would be palatable, however, it has been the case for far too long.

The reality is that year in year out we have to unearth immediate core team ingredients rather than adding cream.....we have a team, yes a team, of first round draft picks, most of whom can't run, won't work, get pushed over too easily AND don't hurt enough.

Enter;

1) Apatite for all contests

2) Absolute distain in a loss, both in a one on one contest and the teams end result

3) Willingness to work both ways

4) Sacrifice for the jumper and your mate

Enter J Viney and J Hogan to follow.

I’m 32 and look 42, during footy season I hate Monday’s even more so.

Mark Neeld was chosen for a reason, he has seen how the best do it, he’s methodical and uncompromising exactly what is required. Initially it got up a few people, but have a look at what we have been watching for the past 10 years. Frankly, I wouldn’t put up with anyone who didn’t stir things up, that would show a certain contentment.

I have faith that he will demand players whom will want to buy and take ownership of carrying the club forward, not content on getting buff (excludes a few) and having a kick on the weekend.

The fact that J Viney in round 1 2013 on debut will be one of our toughest and most uncompromising players should be an embarrassment to the club….but it will make the others learn very fast that this is the standard, not simply one out of the box.

Get the broom out, it hasn’t worked and let savages in.

Good post.

I dont think you realise how good Gaff is. Averaged 24.5 dsposals and 5 tackles this seaosn, just his 2nd season in the AFL.

the Eagles would REALLY want to be into Jack Martin or Jesse Hogan to do this trade.

Yeah as much as I would love to see him in the red and blue I can't see them fielding any offers.

He is ranked number 1 for uncontested possessions in the AFL which shows his ability to get the pill.

No stkilda players worth a look there. Hahaha that post by Lace Out, that is amazing.. so true..

Gaff is a gun and i reckon pick 4 and bate would be perfect for him

Look, if Travis Cloke is in the picture, we should really be going for him. We need a 2nd big forward desperately, he's one of the best in the game, pay him $1.2 million a season, we have no other players than deserve to be on serious money, so why not! Carlton are obviously front runners, but we have the money to pay him and we have the picks to satisfy Collingwood. We're a chance in the same way we were a chance for Mitch Clark.

- Trade Pick 4 + Petterd or Gysberts for Cloke.

- Use pick 3 and 13 on the best midfielders available.

- Pick 23 is Viney.

- Try to get Pearce and Byrnes as free agents, we are crying out for some goal-kicking ability and outside run.

Suddenly we SLOWLY start to take shape to a team that can compete properly at AFL level.

McDonald Frawley Strauss

Grimes Rivers Garland

Trengove Sylvia Pearce

Howe Cloke Watts

Blease Clark Byrnes

Jamar Jones Viney

Interchange: McKenzie, Tapscott, Pick 3, pick 13. Maybe Taggert and Fitzpatrick can show something.

If we don't bring in 2-3 quality senior players who can play from the get-go we are going to struggle to win a game next season. our supporter base can't take much more of this

look youve got an ok team there, but not a premiership winning one.

my best lineup would show

B: T.Mcdonald Frawley Rivers

HB: Grimes Garland C.Young (Hawks)

M: Trengove Wellingham Blease

HB: Howe Watts Sylvia

F: Tapscott Clark Brynes

Foll: Jamar Jones Viney

Int: Knights, Mckenzie, Pick 3 sub: Jetta (still think he fits in somehow)

Jones, Trengove, Grimes.

Maybe Howe.

These are the only mids I would rate above Viney for Rd 1 2013.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

So I will 'craugh.'

It's not pretty...and a little bit creepy.

Bring on Viney, Pick 3 or 4 (I don't think we will have both - one way or the other), Pick 13, a smattering of solid pros from state leagues or Delisted FA, and, hopefully, a good mid in FA or in a Trade.

Cloke is a restricted free agent - trade is not required.

Very nice observation. Difficult times ahead.

At a coaches forum I attended in June CS stated that the MFC is likely to have the lowest supporter base of all Victorian Clubs within the next 10 years. It is an ageing supporter base and has a low number of young people coming through supporting the Club.

Some say this Club is irrelevant and stands for very little. Unless we start winning games on a consistent basis and win games against top clubs this Club will struggle to survive and have any relevance in the future.

Honestly, i have been a mad Melbourne supporter since i was 5. I can honestly say this is the best shaping list ive seen since, we are closer to building a premiership list than ever before. There is a good base of players just need to bring in some new ones.

We have developed players and they will continue to develop.

Just wait for Melbourne to pick up players and do well in this draft

Would be stunned if the Dons agreed to this. Reckon Pears and Hooker may be on the table though.

It'll be great to get a few ex-bombers at the Dee's. We might play okay for at least half a season then...

there are lots of players up for trade and lots of players at free agents, i know that we will expolre all guns.Hopefully we go for Wellingham, Embley, young, established players

Don't be surprised if the club throw money at Chaplin, particularly if Rivers is likely to move on.

i'd rather they give sheahan or davis a crack...

Would much prefer the money to be used fora ready to go midfield or forward

I know Neeld wants us to be more defensive....is this why we have 2 half back lines? Or is it the fact that we can only attack from half back because we lose the clearances?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
