Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Wellingham would be nice. Montagna out of question as well as lenny.

We arent picking up cloke i dont believe after what Needly said.

so far:

Wellingham, Caddy, NickyDal, Kurt Tippett would be pretty good.

Boak but i think thats unlikely, i would have loved Mackay but he resigned today.

What about Chance Bateman?

Quite rightly we're focused on some reasonably big name players in this thread but I get the vibe Neeld might add more than one recycled player unwanted at their current clubs. Hayden Jolly doesn't seem to be getting a look in at Gold Coast. I've liked what I've seen when I've occassionally caught their reserves team play. Callum Bartlett has only had one season back this year from two serious knee injuries and is out of contract. I'd definitely give him a chance if Brisbane delisted him. I liked the look of Ben Speight from North a year or two ago but he seems to be on the outer. Simon Hogan down at Geelong is another who just can't crack the seniors and might benefit from a change in scenery. All of the above players are still quite young but have had a few pre-seasons and not part of their current clubs plans for differing reasons.

I reckon the best out of all the young players though are Josh Caddy and Josh Toy, Josh Toy would fit right in especially if we lose Rivers.

Josh Caddy and Jack Viney would be a delicious prospect lining up with each other alongside Trenners,Jones,Sylvia and Grimsey

Chance Bateman hasn't played a good game since the 2008 grand final. He is finished.

Josh Toy would fit right in especially if we lose Rivers.

I'm assuming you mean because they both play in defence and not because they play the same position as Toy is a rebounding defender and Rivers is a KPD.

yeah i obviously mean in defence... Rivers leaving though would leave a huge whole than and i would like Josh Toy to replace him there.

I still believe that we need one more forward though and some gun midfielder.

Have to ask, the people who rate josh toy; are you going on u18 form or when h's actually played at the suns?

I'm going to assume u18's because he has all of the worst aspects of cale morton with none of the good (and there is precious little of that).

Caddy would be a good pick up but not at the expense of one of our first round picks, there is just so many good picks there.

Depending how we go with FA and the assosciated compo picks caddy could definately be worth a secound round + player (if theres any they want, maybe davis or martin in defence)

Surely Stefan Martin will be up for trading- Would any club take a look at him? I can't help but think Sellar is in front of him now in the ranks. Bate and Dunn would probably be less attractive but with Moloney we have a little worth

.

Anyway I think we should target Aaron Edwards- capable of kicking lots of goals, accurate set shot but has just fallen out of favour with the Roos. As well as Shannon Byrnes. Both are 28 i'm pretty sure but in my opinion there are a lot of gems who are outside of the best 22 at top 8 clubs that we should look at

Don't bothers...

Cloke - I think that would be a mistake. We'd be paying overs, and I reckon Clark relishes the opportunity to be the premier key forward at the club.

Boak - Although I'd love to see him in the red and blue, Geelong will find a way to get the deal done. I wouldn't like us to spend to much time here.

Have a real crack...

Goddard - I think his value is two-fold for us. I think he could slot in nicely as a quality CHF for us, and I'd also like to see him given the responsibility of being mentor to J Watts. Offer $750k-$800k as bait to see if he can be persuaded on a move.

Wellingham - I honestly think he's worth offering our pick 13. He is exactly the type of player we need. Beautiful kick, good turn of speed, good tackler and quick hands. Wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood chased Robbie Warnock which would thwart any possible Martin trade. Straight swap wouldn't get the job done anyway.

First, if anyone thinks expensive private schools don't produce hard men, you are a fool. Professional rugby union players, big business, aggressive entrepreneurs - the list goes on. This is just blue-collar penis envy. Poverty or hard physical work don't naturally produce hard, tough people - it produces desperate people. Tough people come from all walks of life.

Cloke - no thanks

Tippett - maybe. But do we actually need two power forwards???

Boak - not convinced

Caddy - good option. Go get him

Wellingham. Good option.

Don't know enough about any others to comment, and don't trust media gushing about whichever player they are choosing to pump up or shoot down that week.

I know from WA Private School boys

Andrew Embley, Ben Allan, Ben Cousins, Michael Gardiner, Jarred Schofield, James Clement, Daniel Kerr, Karl Langdon, Don Pyke, Tony Evans, Ashley Mcintosh, Jack Darling, Quinten Lynch, Patrick Mcginnity, Nathan Van Berlo, Lance Franklin, Sharrod Wellingham, Mark Coghlan.

I'm sure if I did some more research I could find a lot more so lets not streotype Private school boys, there are some hard nuts in that list, I'm not a private school boy but work my arse off to pay my boys through one. But believe me neither of them will be soft

Okay so in order im going to rank who id like

1. Goddard

2. Wellingham

3. Caddy

4. Boak

5. Embley

6. Toy

7. Tippett

In regards to Tippett, yes i think we should have a good crack at him as i really rate Tippett, him and Mitch could become the most 2 unstoppable forces of the AFL

Koby Stevens might be a good pickup...his stats for WCE read:

round 16 vs Swans got 6 possessions as a sub

round 15 vs North got 4 possessions as a sub

round 8 vs Saints got 5 possessions as a sub

round 3 vs Giants got 19 possessions in starting 20

However, it is rare for him to get less than 20 possessions a game for East Fremantle...

I knew some [censored] would post this comment! Maldon primary and Castlemaine High School in the 1970's - is that far enough away from private schools for you? I am soooo sorry to have disappointed your blinkered, class-system short sightedness.

Paul Chapman is first choice FA for me.......

Ricky Dyson can't get a game at the bomber....could be a cheap FA.....

Maybe instead of giving up pick 4, for Boak.... I'd see what could come out of Geelong, for pick 4......(Kelly? Bartel?) Like the idea of getting Boak, but not for pick 4.....

Callum Bartlett was rated really highly, before being drafted...IF he could over come his injuries, he could be very valuable.....

Would be very happy to see Koby Stevens, in the red and blue next year.....

If Scott Gumbleton passes thorough medicals from MFC, then I'd be interested.....

I'd definitely target Garlett for trade...... Maybe even Gibbs.... Depends how much salary cap pressure Carlton want to release....

Chappy is way too old.

i would love Kelly as he is younger than Bartel :)

Stevens could be a great pickup especially because we could get him cheap.

Gumby=waste of time

Garlett=waste of time, doesnt perform unlesss 10 goals up

Gibbs= YES, would be a goddard type of player at melbourne, him and watts DELICIOUS

Impressive response but unfortunately for both of us you have completely mis-read my post. Yes, I did assume you went to a private school, I asked which one because I went to a private school and it seems we both live in the SE suburbs so I figured that there was a small chance that we went to the same school.

I hate to say this, but I really fear Melbourne will struggle to pick up any 'free agents' unless they are prepared to pay 'massive overs' for them. Being completely objective here, why would anyone want to come to Melbourne after the way they have played this season? If there was significant upside evident, of course players would be attracted, but I am not sure there is any proof of this.

That being said, we will have to simply rely of the draft and grooming players (and doing a little more due diligence as compared to recent previous drafts), finding gems in the State leagues, and hoping a lot of the current crop adapt to Neeld's style over the summer.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
