Lack of Senior Players

Grand New Flag

Recommended Posts

I hope there is at least 1 of 'Neeld can't coach' or the board is incompetent threads at least once a week until the start of the next season!!! :) :)

OP should read some MFC media where Neeld addresses our lack of experience and will try to address it this offseason.

People fear change - be prepared to imbrace change peeps!!

I disagree with the central thesis of this thread that Neeld should be sacked. However, I would not agree with Green being in anyway presured to resign. The similarities with Junior Mac have been mentioned above. However, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Jarred Rivers, a delightful and frank man. He expressed very obvious discomfort about life after 30 for AFL footballers. The message is clear - if you sack a 30 year old, discension and fear may rise among the 27 - 29 year olds. Can we therefore blame players for abandoning ship to cash in , or make money while they can?

You talk about Green and Moloney as though they are Hodge and Selwood.

They are so far from it it's not funny.

The only way forward for this club is to raise the bar, which Neeld is doing.

So ... buy in or bugger off.

Nutshell.

It shits me no end when posters say we lack experienced players therefore we should keep every under performing or finished experienced player for that reason.

We lack QUALITY senior players, hoarding all the crap on our list that has played 100+ games will not change that. Trading in quality experience & giving the inexperienced but potential quality players the opportunities to attain that experience will.

I hope the club sees the error of its ways and resigns Green for 3 years and then picks up Juice Newton to help solidify the forward line.

If Neeld doesn't get this done on day one of the trade period then he must be fired! ;)

Lack of senior players? Yes, if you mean lack of good players around 23 - 27 years old.

It's unacceptable to come out of the 2003 - 2007 drafts with Colin Sylvia, James Frawley, Nathan Jones and Colin Garland as the only things to show for it.

We are still paying the price for poor development from back years ago.

But yes, blame it on the guy who has been here for less than 12 months if it makes you feel better.

2 b given a chance is a two way street. Neeld has been given a second year and so should moloney, rivers and green if he wants to.

Green in the forward pocket would kick 1-5 per game, even now.

Moloney was our best player last year.

Rivers is our smartest backman

Neelds is just trying to trade, our boys can smell it.

2013, give OUR boys a chance, ffs!

QUALITY KEY players.

HFF are the easiest positions to cover with youngsters.

We need some leaders in the engine room.

Your whole tenet of argument is flawed

Neeld has a contract for 3 yerars. Its totally independent of anything else . There is no tighing of any players fortunes to his.

Rivers and Greens fortunes are dependent upon an entirely different set of constraints.

Greens time is up. Whilst he may well get a run somewhere as a forward its not up to him to call the tune at Melbourne . Thats the preserve of the FD.

Moloney has showed littel ability to buy into the 'new' Melbourne. Again its not up to anyone to accomodate him its up to the players to perform. if they dont its the door

The players dont make the rules, they agree to terms.

OUR boys have had quite a few chances.

It was time for Green, his form would see him get pushed out of our 1st choice forward line next year.

And, yes, Rivers and Moloney have not got contracts yet - but that does not mean they are not going to be around next year.

All this hand-wringing over the culling of our senior players is a tad premature.

Welcome to the new Demonland GNF!

With 400+ posts you were probably expecting a rational discussion of your comments. Sadly, that isn’t the norm these days – I guess you would have seen that with the rash of critical posts you received simply for expressing an opinion – Voltaire would turn in his grave!

For those conspiracy theorists out there – I have no idea who GNF is, I only post under one name, and I don’t post in organised conjunction with anyone!

I hope your right, about being premature that is.

It is just simply bad form to cull our best players.

Neeld is very ruthless, I tell you what, the team he builds better be hard as nails because neeld certainly is. Reminds me of Vladimir Putin.

Ogliarchs, you are gone!

I am KGB!

Fcuk you!

I think Voltaire would be amazed at the idea of privately run Internet forums.

As Voltaire once said:

"All men are born with a nose and ten fingers, but no one has the right to say what they want on a private Internet forum.

Noobs"

.............My view is we are burning our talent and its Neelds fault.

So the fact that we haven't developed our top picks much over nearly a decade is the fault of a coach who has had less than one year to stamp his authority?

Wow...that is pretty clever of him.

It is clear that we have pushed Green towards the door. Knowing him personally I find it hard to believe that this was his decision.

How is it clear? Have I missed something by avoiding the wrist slitting around here the last week or so?

I agree that rational dicussion should be promoted but...

Anyone promtoing instabillity at the club does not deserve the time of day. GNF wants to sack the board and coach, all because his mate has been asked to move on. (i don't have a firm opinion on Green retiring - he has been a great servant of the clube and I would have liked to see him have a crack at 1 more year if he though he was up to putting in 100% effort. but you know what life goes on)

Again how can you take an opinion like that serious??? I love the irony of wanting to sack the coach after 12 months to create a better culture at the club. That will promote a great image of the club, I am sure sacking the coach right now will make the best and brightest in the league say hell yeh I want to go to that club who has no balls to take on a plan and stick it out. Take a close look at PAFC..... tell me you think they are on the right path or not?

Some ppl need to get a life..... Neeld is in charge... Neeld will coach his way and bring in players to the club who want to play the way he is coaching if they like it or not.... It;s fine to have an option but to promote club instibility should not be tolorated by the supporters unless and only when it is obvious the best interests of the club are not being met.

I don't know how anyone could prove that beyond a doubt at the moemnt??? The club is financially stable and has implemented new plans to improve the club - until it is proven that they are lying to the supporters and inept there is no need for a board spill

Will Neeld and all these new plans work??? Who knows.... but he has 3 years to implement his views and people/supporters better learn to embrace the change.... or go and cry with Mike Sheehan

If this all falls out arse end in a year or 2 I am more then happy to support change - until Neeld has had his fair crack I will not support or give the time of day to GNF's argument

A precept for rational discussion is a viable and reasoned topic..

Sadly this isnt a well thought out subject. Its either imflamatory, inciteful or trolling.

pick one doesnt matter

GNF you've got guts. Saying what a number of people are thinking according to my conversations. I have a list of things I think as a rookie coach Neeld has got wrong. My biggest beef is I disagree with the defense first and scrounge goals out of a defensive mindset approach. I am clearly an attack first supported with sound defence. Disagree about your course of action to have him immediately sacked, even if I think it would be justified on performance. I think we just have to stick with him to give him a chance not becasue I believe he is going to be what people hope he will be, but because everyone deserves a reasonable chance to develop. Yes the young players will improve over time and bring a new era to the club. I'm waiting to be convinced about the coach.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
