Demonology Revival

Recommended Posts

I was introduced to both sites by Whispering Jack in early 2004 and chose to post on Demonology as I found it much easier on the eyes and to navigate although I have read Demonland quite often.

I have made many friends around Australia through Demonology meeting up with them around the country.

I see no point in bagging any Demon supporter or either site and IMO those who choose to do so need to have a rethink.

I rang Tim Stanes today and he spoke positively about the meeting tomorrow although he will not attend due to ill health.

Thanks to Jack and George for their efforts and I hope the meeting produces some positive strategy which results in the revival of Demonology.

In the meantime I will continue to read this site for which I am grateful.

My lasting memory of Demonology for some reason is Demon2 back in 2004 blasting another poster (can't remember their name) because they went to Wesley and wouldn't buy two memberships. I have absolutely no idea why I can even remember that.

at least someone remembers me.... :)

i loved the old demonology....won't be able to make the meeting....if i cancel 'date night' the wife would kill me....since they are as rare as hens teeth now that we have two little girls...but I would be mroe than happy to re-start my Demon2 Rants if demonology comes back..

I also enjoy reading and sometimes posting on both sites. Would love to attend but the hour's drive home would ensure that I would be in trouble from my carlton supporting partner. As it is I'll be at a mate's house watching while she watches her blues (hopefully) get beaten at home.

Meeting's on tonight and from the feedback I'm getting the thing we really need is someone with an IT brain.

We're lucky enough to have Nasher on board but he's in Tassie and while he's come up with some ideas for discussion, having another IT knowledgable person on the spot would be helpful.

The way I see it, the discussion tonight will be on two levels - the technical one and the organisational side.

Hopefully, we can get things on track, enjoy the events in Darwin, get some good tucker and a drink or two (diet coke for me) as well.

We've had our meeting and some fruitful and positive things came out of it. Our next step is to weigh up the possible options and determine whether they can be put into place. All I can say at this stage is that we're going to need technological support from people who are IT savvy and $. I don't believe either would be an issue if we get grass roots support from Demonologists.

Watch this space.

Thanks for the update WJ. Very sorry I couldn't make it last night. My sister's wedding ran over and being brother of the bride I was there til the very end.

If there is some kind of private discussion/email doing the rounds I would be happy offer my assistance. I run a small web development business as a hobby and would be keen to offer my support in terms of tech knowledge and $$$

I suggest everyone look at www.ning.com as a possibility for the system to host the new Demonology. There would be some difficulty in crediting existing members post numbers and taking across old discussions, but i'm sure we would all live.

Anyway, keep me in the loop - david.andrew.williamson at gmail.com

cheers.

I have an IT background and work for an Internet service provider so happy to offer what I can.

Just reiterating my offer to assist where I can. I can be reached at rossmillan at yahoo.com

I also have a question, assuming that the new demonology will take some time to develop or get running, has anybody looked into whats causing the SQL error on the existing site? I'd be happy to take a look at seeing if we can kickstart the original site so that in the short term the site keeps functioning.

You can join the queue of people who have offered to fix that error Ross! That's probably the most frustrating thing, the error is trivial to fix, would take two minutes, but these seems to be nobody in existence who can grant us access to the administration tools.

Thanks Jack.

I'll contribute a donation to the 'Ology fund, & maybe we could do the same as we've done with 'Land, with the membership type thing?

#Edit: Maybe a yearly subscription of $10.00 - $15.00 per avitar, with 6 weeks free trial on a new new membership.

Can't or won't grant access. Seems to me like port 3389 is open to the internet, so all we need now is to guess the username password :.)

Seeing that no one has been able to guess the password, and by my reading no one was going to attend the meeting, is it fair to assume that Ology is now dead....for lack of permission to apply (apparantly) a simple fix?

That is very depressing.

As Smithy observed, while not critiscising either site, Ology is easier to read and allows more 'stupidity'; an essential attribute in my opinion.

Let Mark Robinson have the monopoly on sententious moralising from a bloke who never played, couldnt play and shouldnt....as in. " I believe that football,as in life, there are certain values that are sacrosanct and speak to the meaning of our existance, blah blagh ablah blah....geez look at the hooters on that one (snort snort)"

Personally I miss Ology and all the fun it provided me.

Happy to buy a subscription, but I guess it needs an IT Internety Forum expert guy, and most of all the password.

Now you see, there's what I meant by 'Ology encouraging 'stupidity', weather its the speling or the analysis of MFC and its travails

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
