LOL Darryle Pearce.

No go with Pearce, front runner, lazy and not willing to get his hands dirty.

Other than that this sounds pretty good... probably way too good knowing the mfc.

Fair point. He was a better player than most our team in the Darwin game so give him a miss !!!

Martin being chased by GC, Geelong, WB and the Dees apparently.

Interesting thing is the idea that GC would be willing to part with Pick 2 for Martin.

That would keep them from bidding on Viney if true...

But they would have to be very keen on him to give up Pick 2 after giving up Pick 4 last year...

Pick 2 trumps whatever deal we could think up, but I would love to able to use their desire to get Martin and establish a deal with them and GWS that gets Viney into the second round.

Yes but then if GWS know they are going to have the 2nd pick, then it may mean that they can afford to take the risk and still pick up Whitfield.

"We need to make a decision by Wednesday as to whether Jack nominates or not and part of that decision is weighting up which clubs are likely to figure for this," Dover told AFL.com.au.

"If it looks like the deal is done with the wrong club and we don't believe it would be best for Jack's development, then there is every chance that he'll stay in WA for that 12 months.

"Having a year in the system and developing a lot of the positive habits would be perfect for him in the right environment and with the right plan around him.

"I can see it working really well for a player like Jack, it's just trying to get him into the right environment."

I see ....

Father Son bidding will be over by the time GWS gets Pick 2.

If they nominate on that premise, they would be doing so with a handshake deal in place with GC. Pretty risky, especially if GC think Whitfield is worth pick 2...

I saw that and it looks to me like he is putting out some sort of warning that he doesn't want to go to a club that hasn't got the right development program and I take it he was referring to Melbourne. I don't usually go with the conspiracy theories but in this case I think I will.

I reckon if we get him he'll $cully us in 2 years time.

Well I'm guessing he doesn't mean Geelong and WA boy O'Meara went to GC last year ...

When does the bidding for mini draft occurs? Is it before or after the father son bidding?

If it is after as i suspect, then the chance of Gold Coast ruling themselves out of any potential mini draft picks by committing pick 2 to Viney is slim. They will want to keep that asset up their sleeve. This could work in our favor here!

Makes GWS position tricky, clearly they want to encourage the best players to nominate so they can extract maximum trade value, but if the player says I'll only nominate if you don't accept a deal from these clubs then it diminishes the bidders.

The deadline for eligible players to nominate for this year's mini-draft was 2pm on Wednesday, August 1.

But I can't find a list

They will probably release it soon.

I couldn't find it either this morning after reading this thread.

I'd like to know what Dover considers the "right environment"

He clearly needs an tour invitation.

Taking a line through Martin's manager Ben's comments above I'd say GWS has done the deal in principal and we're not in the frame.

If it's with GC and they'll end up with pick 1 & 2 I'd grow gloomy about them not nominating Viney.

Maybe they'll insist we give them pick 3 for the 2nd mini-draft pick and then they'll have 1,2,3 this year.

Can you catch paranoia through the internet?

In the end that isnt THE worst scenario, i like the midfielder Couch a bit, although people think Hogan will go pick 2, it is overs for Couch with a pick 4 which i think it would have to be as we cannot give away pick 3 prior to F/S bidding but it will be like getting Viney and Couch for picks 4 and 25 instead of really Viney and pick 25, the value is getting a top 10 prospect type for pick 25 essentially.

The best scenario is still getting Viney at 25 and having free reign at pick s3-4 obviously

Old, the F/S bidding is done before any trading.

If I were GWS I would be very worried that if I nominated Viney at Pick 1 with an 'in-principle agreement' with GC a few weeks later that GC would just pull a fast one and get Whitfield in this draft instead of agree to give pick 2 for Martin.

They might still nominate Viney but the interest in Martin by GC doesn't help or hinder.

Hypothetical trading scenario.

Melb uses pick 3 for Martin with an understanding that GWS does not nominate JV

Melb trades Martin to West Coast for Gaff.

We get JV second round

Martin gets to stay in WA

Melb gets an gun midfielder with a couple of years in the system

What do others think?

I do know that. But the deals are done beforehand. Anyone could reneg on any deal but that's not the way to grease future wheels.

Problem is that regardless of doing any deal with gws for u17 and not touching viney, is that we still need to come up with an arrangement with gc.

How about we trade pick 3 to gws for u17 pick and pick 13 to gc for caddy. Gc and gws don't nominate viney.

So assuming puck 1 and 2 are gws whitfield and grundy and gc get martin, we get:

- hogan or crouch u17

- our choice of toumpas or wines or mayes at 4

- caddy at 13

- viney second round

Yeah, I think we should be considering a deal.

After we find out where we finish!!

But, it calls our bluff if it gets knocked back.

If smart, the GWS wont bid on Viney, leaving us pick 3 - because we will most likely bid for Martin

and it will boast his stocks, Bullies would have to give up their pick 4, another first round pick and maybe more to get him!!

So, GWS leaving us pick 3 probably means that they will get more for Martin - as sides will have to offer a lot to trump us.

I think the side that ends up last wont bid for Viney regardless - as Whitfield is your clear number 1 choice.

Its the second side that will be bidding and they will 100% bid.

I wouldnt be complaining if we ended up second last.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
