Cheers - must have missed it through my tears of pity for GC

No drama mate, on a side note it's hard to comprehend the suns being strapped for cash. Bottom 3 in Footy department spending is shocking for a new club.

You going on saturday mate i will be going and im going to get brett to come along we should meet up and have a beer.

Yeah mate should be there. Just working off the tyrant's (wife) List of crap to do before going to the G. Bout time Brett got his ass to a game.

I assumed they'd easily be top 8 for spending at the very least. It is ordinary for a new club and manifests their unhealthy (for GC) dependence on the AFL for cash.

Your not wrong he has been slack this year i got him to get a membership last year but he did not get one this year.

I will make sure he gets one for the 2013 season.

What you thinking for pick 3 and 4? I think we should throw pick 12 at Beams or wellingham and get Toumpas with pick 3 or 4.

They will be a rabble in a few years if they keep this up. Stop [censored] farting around Vlad and just bring back Fitzroy and get Tassie in and [censored] of the GC and GWS.

[censored] poor Brett [censored] poor. My under educated view is get Viney at all costs use 12 and throw in beamer for a player. I watched Vic Metro games and like the look of a under prepared Viney he brushed past a player who then popped his shoulder out! Hogan for W.A is a beast of a 17 year old. Another player for W.A I think his name is Marsh? He looks like a good smokey if he can fall through to pick 12.

There is another thread on this board (or maybe more) wanting us to delist 6, or 8, or 9, or more players. If we do, we will have to use all our picks to replace them. So only look at one pick for one player (or two for one player plus a reasonable pick as Old 55 suggests) or we will be using pick numbered in 3 digits and getting rubbish to fill our numbers.

Do we want a massive clean out of our current list this year? Do we think there is any great trade value in the cleanout candidates? Do we think MFC is irresistably attractive for other clubs semi/full free agents?

Reason says look for one good trade (I'm OK with Boak for a first rounder), get Viney with whatever it takes, and use remaining first and second rounders wisely.

We currently have good forwards and backs (when all fit) and adequate rucks if Gawn isn't. Boak and Viney would be two good additions to the mids. We should be able to get two more gooduns for whatever position with our remaining first and second rounder. Get a grip on your enthusiasm and calmly work out what we need there before thinking we can trade for stars with our rubbish.

Essendons first available pick will probably be in the 30s with there first rounder going to Daniher.

Doubt they'd get Caddy for that

Even if the bombers had pick 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 they couldn't get a deal done at trade week.

Good summation there GOLF.

It never ceases to amaze that people think clubs will want MFC players that have help us achieve third last with an average losing margin of 9 goals.

I know we have a lot of injuries but I doubt we have Good Forwards and backs with a few exceptions.

Whatever way you look at it we are going to need 3 -4 years to improve the player stocks.

But as you suggest it is impossible to do in one year

Posted

For what it's worth we will get Viney and with our second pick. He will not, of course, be picked prior to us.

The one that really jumps out for me is Jack Martin who I just know the WA clubs will be desperate for. As for Jack Stringer, he too will be a star. You can find knocks on any player but he and Martin will be stars. My cousin is currently in the one's in Sydney (actually injured now) and there were knocks re pace blah blah blah but......he can play football. Melbourne does tend to overthink. Hence, we have (and I do like him) Cale Morton who we don't know how to use.

There's another Stingrays onballer who impresses. Bugger, begin with a 'b' if someone can remind.

Enough rambling.

There is the argument that we might have amongst ourselves some fringe like players that might be a better fit in another club.

Buckley a case in point. Some might happily nominate some curretn players to fill such a list.

Jack Billings - AIS Sorry.

And definitely not sold on Josh Caddy. Let Bombers have him.

Billings is a gun. Underage unforts, will go high next year.

Agree on Caddy. A good player, but for what GC will ask for him, I'm sure we'll find better value elsewhere.

Caddy has done SFA pick 15-20 max in this draft

I don't reckon we would have to give much to GC to get Caddy as he is super keen to return to Melbourne and as he is out of contract at the end of the season he can go into the draft. That doesn't guarantee him getting to a Victorian club of course but interstate clubs will not be too keen given his desire to live in Melbourne and the Demons, Bulldogs, Saints, North and Richmond will all have picks roughly in the range where he might go you'd think (12-20?).

If he goes into the draft GC get nothing so they'll be keen to trade no doubt and i guess, like Judd, Caddy will be keen to get to help his club get the best deal. I don't know if we would give up our 12ish pick as i don't really have a sense of how good he is. We perhaps offer a second round pick and a couple of players and work in an unspoken commitment for them not nominate Viney.

I could see a scenario where we get Boak (with our pick 4 going to Port) and Caddy and after doing some sort of deal with GWS also getting Viney with a second round pick. Instant midfield, particularly when you consider we would have pick 3 still up our sleeves in that scenario.

The 3 players i mentioned, barring injury would all be ready to roll round one 2013. Add Jones, Grimes, hopefully Gysberts and a fitter Sylvia and it is starting to look like the sort of mid field a club needs to be contender.

Pick 12 & Moloney for Caddy & Prestia?

Are caddy or prestia really what we need?

Seems like we have plenty of one speeded inside/ semi inside midfielders and I think we could be better served drafting these types rather than settling for what other clubs would be willing to let go, just look at the swans 2009 draft:

Pick 6 Gary Rohan

Pick 14 Lewis jetta

Pick 55 Trent Dennis-lane

Fair enough Rohan did his ankle but look at what an injection of speed has done to the team we smashed by something like 14goals

I doubt caddy would have the class of a Toumpas or Wines, or Stringer. or Mayes.

Caddy = straight swap for Moloney, or Morton, + our 3rd Rnd Pick. Take it or leave it.

Prestia could be interesting but maybe too expensive, If we used 3 & 4 on Toumpas/Wines/Stringer,,, we used say (Mid1stRnd-P) on a Kennedy, that would suffice IMO.

Watched most of the GC game today and Caddy ripped it up looked like he would easily slot into our midfield if we got him. Not sure on Prestia because I haven't seen enough but if we have a chance to get Caddy get it done.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
