Pick 3 - Jake Stringer

Pick 4 - Dayne Beams

Pick 13 & Morton too GWS for Pick 1 U/17

Pick 23ish - Jack Viney

Trade Bennell & Morton for Koby Stevens

Trade Petterd & Spencer too Suns for

Bate too Bulldogs for 3rd round pick

Seriously, you really think other teams will want Bennell, Morton, Spencer and Petterd in the form they are in?

Need to do better then that.

Morton is getting traded twice and Bate's compo will be decieded by the comission - he is a UFA.

Think you'll find that the father/son situation is sorted BEFORE players or picks can be traded. So we can't get rid of our first pick to push Viney to a 2nd rounder.

can we not commit to JV, but then trade picks 3 & 4 (for Boak and say Ben Reid) which would leave us with pick ~12 to take viney as a no brainer

Posted

Suggested elsewhere - 4 + 13 for Boak + 7 is a win-win deal for Port if he wants to leave and us if we really want him - assuming Port finish above the Dogs. Pick 7 should still deliver a decent mid.

Yes, PA are going to want Pick 4 for their best mid besides Hartlett.

I hope I say this in a nice tone:

The FS is over before trade week begins. The kids are already assigned untradeable picks before trade week begins. There is no trading away picks at this stage.

You have to convince people to not bid and then they have to have faith that we are acting in good faith.

Note: Comp picks are immune from F/S bidding process Pick 4 and 13 are not directly relevant here.

Mods - can we PLEASE get a thread pinned outling the rules of the F/S process?

righto, thanks for going easy on me. its that part which i wasnt aware of

I really would hate it if we have to use pick 3 on Viney and use pick 4 on Boak.

To not get any of Stringer, Toumpas, Wines would be painful to watch.

Totally !

Wines sounds like a Classy Vintage indeed. Toumpas sounds good but I think I'd go Wines, from the little I know, anyways.

I don't think Geelong would be chasing Cloke - pretty sure they'd be happy with the 2 tall forwards they have (who I wouldn't rate in the same class as Cloke).

He wouldn't fit into their pay structure, so of course they have no interest, but every club would love two big quality key forwards. Getting them is another matter entirely.

Reflecting on yesterday's game, we need to consider big Grundy the ruckman from SA if he is still available with our pick 4.

Jamar has been in poor form this season, Big Max Gawn has hardly played a game for us, Spencer is not going to be good enough and Martin and Clarke are better used in other roles.

The ruck cupboard is bare and Grundy looks the goods

Cloke sounds like he is "Off",,, so where to? Freo? Doesn't like plane travel all that much.

So, locally, or just North? Who has the Cashflow to afford him & where would he go to get the success he's enjoyed, & which club would be equally as prestigious as where he has been?

If he leaves & it sounds strong he may, IMO only Carlton is a Big Club who spends big to fill they're needs.

Do the Blues need a Big forward before Judd's cooked?

We won the hitouts yesterday, but our run & spread was a problem, & our use going forward is a weakness.

We can't afford him @ pick 3 or 4.

I think he'll stay and Reid is their next priority. Then Beams may be squeezed out if we offer him double what Collingwood does, but Collingwood will demand the highest pick we have - they'll want pick 4 or they'll say "into the draft son"

The cupboard's not bare, it's just a bit wonky.

Jamar - 2010 AA (injured)

Martin - Serviceable - presents decently and has passable tap work

Spencer - less said the better

Fitzpatrick - Coming back from injury, looks to be being groomed as the backup ruck/forward

Gawn - Horrific run with injuries, wouldn't be surprised if it's due to growth, has shown good signs.

That's about 1/8th of the list in the ruck department.

I doubt very much that we'll reach for a ruckman at this stage.

I've been thinking about the Viney situation a little since the Brisbane game-

Now let me preface this by saying that I would love to see Viney running around in the red and blue round 1 next year, but- this draft is seen to be a "super draft" (whatever that means) and if so- would we be better telling Viney to sit out this one- allowing us to fill up on players that we desperately need (I know we desperately need Viney but he is a lock), and then next year- not being a super draft- we are still guaranteed Viney with the father son pick which may be lower than pick 3 (which is inconsequential but a nice bonus)

This will net us Stringer & Toumpas/Wines/ Grundy and our second round pick (Garlett?) and we still get Viney although a year later- he can still develop with us and we get to utilize all picks in this super draft & still get Viney in what may be a weaker draft- hence we draft great 2 consecutive years!

We need so much, and if a 'getlemens agreement" can't be reached, we still get all we need. And lets face it- it's a lot.

I heard Viney was one of the names that makes this a super draft.

Everyone keeps on running over this issue - what if Viney is worth Pick 3?

Are we dupes if we pick him?

Because we won't know for sure until about 2017.

I have this aversion to spending #4 on a ruckman when we are crying out for midfield strength and speed.

I have no issues with us taking Viney at 3 if he is rated as a top 5 pick. MFC are playing mind games with GWS and GC. Beams or Boak with pick 4 i would be ok with. Both are at the right age and experience which is what we really need the right mixture of experience and highly talented mids through the midfield.

I'm of the belief the club wants a few more experienced players on the list. Players who struggle to get a game at one of the higher clubs because of there success of the current 22. Get the right balance

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
