WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS

Featured Replies

This guy will sell memberships, and I'm not just talking his extended family.

Whatever Toumpas is on, I want some.

yeah, i wish hazy (and his mates) would take some too

Out of interest, is his surname pronounced 'Tumpas' or Toompas' ?

Gloating at work so just want to make sure I'm saying the kid's name properly!

My understanding is the second.

How happy was Jimmy "the Gun" Toumpas ? I doubt I've ever seen a new draftee as excited and as exuberant.

I'd have been pretty excited too if I'd dodged the GWS bullet.

Imagine being drafted by port. Poor Ollie.

The go home factor is strong in this one.

Yes, I have to say that Whitfield didn't exactly look too excited about his selection.

I bet knowing exactly where you were ending up a few weeks, if not months out would mean less excitement on the day compared to some one not knowing exactly where he was headed.

Let's just let him stick kicking footies shall we? We've got a whole marketing department for that ...

*Boom-tish*

I got that initial feeling with Wines.

Whitfield looked ecstatic by comparison huh !! lol

Dimitri would have been praying

'please Melbourne'

'please Melbourne'

'please Melbourne'

Pick 4 The Melbourne Football Club.......... Jimmy Toumpas ......

't f f t !!!'

<scully paranoia> Looked a little too happy in the interview, looked like a front to me </scully paranoia>

On a serious note, was great to see a kid picked by Melbourne and look like he had just won the lotto while potting Heidi Klum. Welcome to the MFC Dimitri.

I remember the year Jack Watts was drafted, and the draft commentators said there wasnt a happier person in the room than Michael Hurley when they read he was going to Essendon.

I dont think there was a happier person in the entire country than Jimmy when he found out he was going to the dees. Fantastic to see and can not wait to see him tear it up on the MCG.

If you look at the draft spread Jimmy's choices of club were GWS, Melbourne, Bullies, Port and Brisbane if he fell down to 8th. No wonder he was happy.

I gotta say I felt sad for Wines, he looked happy in a sad sort of a way.... It will be interesting to see how Baloney fares next year with Wines breathing down his neck for a spot in the Brisbane Midfield.

He went to Port mate, not Brisbane.

I have to say I'm pretty damn happy to have this guy joining us. Another state captain with senior experience joining the ranks. From everything i've seen and read he is all class.

Purely for the inner nerd in me, is his real name Dimitri, James, Jim or Jimmy or something else?

And while I like "Thumper" as a nickname, somehow I can't get "Kick Ass Toumpas" out of my head.

His name is Dimitri, but the standard greek-to-anglo translation of his name is Jimmy.

Like Vassili becomes Bill, etc.

Jimmy "Thumper" Toumpas for sure.

When was the last time we had a Greek Boy ?

I really cant remember any at MFC.

I like "Jimmy Stomp-Ass"as a name .

"Pethi Mou-Stomp-colos"

Like Yze before him, I think the "Toooooooooooooomp..as" chant will be reverberating around the G before long.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
