What a surprise :)

I'm okay with the AFL not admitting the umpires are being influenced by the crowds, since doing so might (further) comprimise the umps' status as unbiased adjudicators, but I hope to Hell they're making sure that whatever bias exists is utterly stamped out before someone wins a Premiership out of it.

This thread is hilarious!

"The umpires pay then as they see them" is worthy of comedy central.

23 to 1 frees at half time in round 2 should have set alarm bells ringing but no.....

Imbeciles like Greg Denham still think there was nothing wrong wth the stat and it was all Melbourne's fault.

Setting aside the opinions of those with their heads up their proverbials like Greg and the AFL it is pretty obvious that impartial umpires need to be used.

On the figures you could just about mount a case that a probity investigation should be launced to find out if all is above board. If that comes up clean then those WA umps are incompetent and shouldn't be umpiring.

I'm gobsmacked the AFL use WA umpires for WC games.

Its not that WC don't deserve the frees they get over there but it's the frees they don't pay against them thats the worry IMO.

I'd love to see the stats for frees against Nik Nat at home and then away for eg.

The basic rules of the game don't seem to apply to him at all at Subi.

And at this very minute in the Hawthorn/Carlton game there are 3 umpires having a 5 minute conversation trying to "work out" if a player kicked it out on the full.

The men in white have lost their nerve...we can thank Vlad & Anderson for that one.

Living in NSW I get force fed GWS games on TV and they do seem to be well treated by the umpires.

I hear that GWS is getting an average of 50% of the free kicks in its games. But we are always told that poor teams should expect a worse ratio because they are simply poor. Doesn't seem to happen with GWS.

These stats need to be addressed by the AFL as they bring down the game as whole.

I would love to know what the figures are at the Cattery slaughterhose .

Problem is that these umps look up to players and want to befriend them

The 24 hour media cycle plays on their tiny minds .

Another embarrasment for the AFL-the list grows.

Although I was not much of a player-I would have loved to play against Selwood-concussion wouldn't be the word for it. (if I could catch him)

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
