Gys for Boak swap wouldn't be fair for Port.

A player who has spent a majority of his year playing at Casey in a team thats ranked 16th on the ladder in return for your teams best mid/clearance player?

Unfortunately I dont think teams give much credit to 'potential' when trading.

I didn't suggest a straight swap, I'm querying JG's value.

Yeah its to hard this, lol, I realized there was flaws in the mix. I was just playing around to see how feasible it would actually be for the sake of whoever suggested it.

In the end I don't think the 3 way is very feasible at all. I would rather use our pick 12 on a Garlett or Kennedy from the draft.

I know its hard but if Port are happy with a pick and player or just a pick for boak then we just need to negotiate with the cats who will have to give up players as we already have the better draft picks. We act as the middle man between Boak and the cats.

Everyone keeps presuming we have pick 4 in this thread. Looking at the draw I think if we beat Port on Sat eve we'll finish above both Port and WB. Which means we would have picks 6 and 7 and have to use one of them on Viney. Port will most likely have pick 3 or pick 5 if they finish beneath the WB. Im not sure how much that changes things but it may well be WB that ends up in he stronger position of the vic teams

Doubt we ll above behind the bulldogs, they are 3 games and percentage clear of us.

Reckon bottom 3 finish is a fair bet. Lets see if we win this week - if we don't - hard to imagine we will be finish higher than Port or Dogs. Cant lock in a win against GC either.

Prefer Motlop dunno if Christianson is out of contract at the end of the year but it's not the worst option.

If you look at WB draw... and their form, I really doubt they'll win another game. We on the other hand play Port, GC x2 and GWS. Also....and I hate to bring the T word here. But having lost Ward to GWS dont you reckon the doggies would just love to bite back at the system and get a decent return on that compo pick. We wont be tanking thats for sure...but dont count out the doggies trying to maximise the draft pick.

I think this thread is done for me. Silly trade scenarios, suggestions that Geelong may trade Motlop - and another 4 months of this ?

Think we only play GC once, GWS once and Port. So thats 3 games we'll win at best.

Port also still play GWS once.

We got ripped by the AFL system aswell, the Bullies wont win another game, but we arent silly enough to let them drop below us.

Yep...you're right. My bad. I think at this time of year, with the season(s) we've had, its hard not to start being more excited about the trade season than the playing one. Want to "win" something!

Not sure about being above WB but i reckon there's a good chance we'll end up 15th as we're on track for 5-6 wins IMO

Given our long injury list and very poor performance this season, assuming we'll beat all 3 of Port, GWS and GC is a big assumption. Bottom 3 is a near certainty.

What could the cats possibly trade for Boak?

They would need to give up something like Stringer + there first rounder (Which my guess would be about pick 15)

You must be Joking!

That's a really interesting point. With FA coming in (and the likely increase in the salary cap) clubs will have more of these sort of situations where it is clear mid season a player is off. How they deal with it - indeed how the whole system deals with it - will be fascinating to watch and has implications or the culture of clubs and the game as a whole.

Do they not play a player and if so do they do that openly or under the guise of an injury.

Do they continue to play them as is the case in most sports (which means a commited player misses the oppoertunity to play and develop)?

How do they manage the tension and conflict that might arise between team mates (as seems to have been the case with Boaks team mates demanding he make the call)?

Do they encourage players to be open and advise the club (their preparedness to do so would obviously be influenced by the answers to the q's above)

Fascinating stuff and unfortunately it will all inevitably become grist for the media mill and we can get used to multiple annual will he or won't he sagas (which the AFL will love because they clearly take the view that media saturation is good for business - witness how they structure the trading periods, fixture announcements, NAB cup etc etc to ensure there is almost 365 day AFL coverage)

I think it's been said that he wants to play a couple more weeks before announcing, & then he'll go to sort his medical needs prior to a big Pre Season.

For Mine the Deal has been done, & is now just bells & whistles, & least from his part I suspect.

He came over prior to making a decision, then went back with no decision, (hmmn), now has opened contract talks, (Ha). To me Deal done! Where to?

Here we go fellas.

The new management team brought us Mitch Clarke.

Now for Travis Boak.

Melbourne's trade advantage could trump Geelong in race for Port Adelaide's Travis Boak

No. Not pick 4.

Trade our Mid1st Rnd Pick, & our {3rd, or a player},,, & a Guarantee to let either Toumpas or Grundy, {whichever is available} to pass to they're following pick.

We keep 3&4, get Boak & have our 2nd Rnd pick intact for Jack, or next best.

This allows us to lookout for Whitfield if he slides, one of Toumpas or Grundy if both were to slip thru to Pick 3, Stringer/Wines/ Mayes/Kennedy...

Guarantees to let certain players slip through are beyond fu#%ing stupid.

It simply doesn't happen and it's not a bargaining chip.

Get your head out of the clouds.

Oh Hose, don't be like that.

Truth is until they're all announced, we shouldn't take it as gospel. But we should cover all pos-eeble scenarios.

And I don't want us to pay too high, with 2 picks in the top 15. I'd rather the Mid pick + some other choice enticements, as I've posted. I think they'd be rapt for our Mid 1st Rnd Pick, + a 3rd Rnder, & a guarantee of either Toumpas or Grundy. (Unless they both go at Picks 1 & 2) then we won't get them either.

I think that should be able to get it over the Line.

And unlike the Cats, we won't have to travel to Adelaide this weekend to speak to him..... .

If this were to happen, I know some people have mentioned Petterd when tossing up scenario's, but if you were in Port's position for arguments sake, you'd be after a clearance player in return, don't you think ?

What would the value be for someone like Jordan Gysberts ?

Haha you must know someone on the inside HT!

What?!

Jeez... I reckon I'd be hurt to lose Gysberts.

I really like the kid.

On the FS tonight, Damian Barrett said that Boak made it clear to his management that he would be speaking to only 2 clubs....Geelong and North Melbourne.

Further, the belief is that he will stay with Port.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
