So Judd has a secret investment in a poker machine business with a Carlton Board Member. It is undisclosed and he has actively tried to conceal it?

AFL to investigate their Golden Child again?? Don't hold your breath. Salary Cap breach? Oh, not us a Carltank we have learned our lesson..

They tried to spray Glen 20 on the Visy ambassador stench but it wouldn't go away. Will watch with interest what happens with this. Seems to have fallen foul of the Gaming authorities but not the AFL. What a joke.

With Free Agency coming in next year this should be a massive wake up for the AFL but watch while they do NOTHING.

Reading the article this seems to be a private investment by JUDD and has nothing to with player payments from Carlton and thus nothing to do with the Carlton Salary Cap. It does however say something about JUDD and the lengths he will go he to manage and manipulate his public image. I would suggest if he is that concerned about his public persona then surely going to Carlton was a huge mistake in the first place.

The issue isn't about poker machines per se but rather a shady 'inside' deal that could be seen as a another way of getting Judd $500k?

There is plenty of form there for Judd after the visy deal. And the 'sham' investigating of other clubs facilities for 4 months before 'deciding' to go to carlton.

Not at all... just believe this is a non issue. If there is something untoward going on, it will surface one way or another. I just can't see the point in getting worked up over something that will have no impact on our club.

The only reason the gaming authorities are up in arms is because stakeholders need to be disclosed in a public register. Judd gave his reasons for wanting to keep a low profile and it was mentioned that half the 500k came from a loan (ANZ bank) and half from his own income... who are we to condemn him for that? Edit: you will also notice that LoGiudice only became a director at Carlton in 2010 while this deal was done in 2009.

Besides, I'm not sure why you have made such a big deal of it as, by your own admission, you believe nothing will happen from an AFL standpoint regardless.

A Carlton player and a director invest some of their own wealth in a private investment in poker machines which has nothing to with Club. Hardnut has provided some other facts. On what you have put forward this has nothing to do with the salary cap.

Whether it was salary correlated would depend on whether the return on investment was within normal commercial values commensurate with the risk undertaken....or, whether Juddy was to receive a large windfall return for little risk.

Judd had made a 500k investment into a business...250k of his own earnings, 250k on a loan (presumably to be paid for by him).

The only sleazy thing about this deal is that it has to do with poker machines.

From the look of things, any dividends that Judd would have received from this venture would have been in line with his investment.

What's the controversy...Good luck to him.

The AFL have shown negligence and gross hypocrisy in relation to C Judd - but this doesn't even make the dossier. A non-issue

You can certainly argue about the ethical nature of gambling investments. However, the AFL in general is full of betting and gambling, and Melbourne is sponsored by Deesbet.

There's nothing illegal about investing in a gambling company. Thousands of Mum and Dad investors have shares in Tabcorp, for instance. Most would say it's a far better investment than gambling itself.

The only issue surrounding Judd is to do with public disclosure of the investment. The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation keeps a public register of people who have investments in gaming, and there was a 'third-party' deal to keep Judd's name off the register, no doubt for PR purposes. The judgement handed down in the County Court on March 1 found no approval or consent for Judd's investment was ever sought from the commission.

If anyone wants to tie it in with Visy, salary caps and brown paper bags, they're barking up the wrong tree.

How is a director setting him up in a lucrative business when he obviously wouldnt do it if Judd played for Essendon ect

It is like players who got in trouble for being gifted cheap land and homes in the early 2000's i think

The issue comes in where a player wouldnt recieve such opportunities if they didnt play for a particular club, it could be any supporter but it is a director.....
